How refreshing to deal with a knowable competent contractor. I did some research and the products they used to put a shingle roof on my house were high quality and they look outstanding. They were there when they said they would be, their crew is personable and motivated, there was NO standing around talking, loud music playing, yelling to talk to each other, they were a joy to be around. They started at 8 am, exactly when they said they would, had a 4 man crew, 2 worked on the front and 2 on the back, and finished around 4 pm. This company will not repair your roof the correct way. They will 100% throw extra plywood and / or tar over your existing leaks, aka doing it the cheapest and fastest way possible. Then when your roof leaks again they will either not answer their phones or charge you more to fix what you already paid them to fix in the first place. An overall horrendous experience. I had a small roofing fascia repair job they gave me a quote on right away, and I sent them a signed contract within a day. I was eager to get it repaired because I had birds nesting in my roof eaves due to the wind-damaged fascia piece, but I knew it was a small job, so I was trying to give them time to fit me in. Proctor spent the next 15 weeks telling me they would either be at my house "tomorrow," "next week," or "this week" in an almost neverending cycle. Half the time, when I'd call the office, they'd say, "We'll check with Jerry and call you back" - then they would NEVER call me back. After 15 weeks, I resorted to calling them twice a day until they finally arrived and fixed it. I can't say whether they're like this on bigger roofing jobs, but for a small repair job, it was a nightmare. read more

Although we were just a small time customer in a doublewide, they treated us like their most important customer. New roof (architectural shingles, complete tear off), New front and side wood/vinyl steps (absolutely beautiful), new front storm door (huge upgrade to what came with the house) and they replaced all of our shutters with new ones we provided. The owner stuck by his estimate and gave us a great deal on a lot of the work, and the guys that did the work were just great people and did great work. I would highly recommend Proctor to anyone. This was my second outstanding experience with Proctor. When i called for a free estimate they were here promptly and gave me an all inclusive written estimate. Their estimate was MUCH less than the competitor's estimate. Proctor was here in about a week with a crew of 5 or 6 workmen. The metal pieces were precut. They began work at about 8:30 and were finished by 3:15. I was able to pay with my credit card. All in all a great experience by a throughly professional outfit. I would not hesitate to recommend them. The only downside was a handful of screws left over in the lawn. I hope I found them all before a lawnmower tire finds them. Considering the quick, professional service, no surprise costs or overrun, and a very attractive new metal roof the screws don't seem like too big a problem. We had Proctor install new soffit, fascia and a metal roof. They not only came on time but a day early to install the soffit and fascia. The day they installed the roof was freezing out and very windy. Both installations were done nicely and with nothing left in my yard. Not even the bird nest they had to remove. I have to say after reading these reviews I was a little nervous. I would highly recommend them. Compared to other estimates the least they saved me was $6300.00. read more

Jerry Proctor, Owner, came out and provided a written Proposal to replace our aging roof. Along with the written proposal, he provided a flyer which touted Proctor Enterprises' A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and Home Advisor's "Top Rated" designation. He also provided a 16-page packet of References listing local homeowners and businesses for whom he had provided service. Based on our poor customer service experience with Proctor, it's perplexing to understand how those ratings and references were awarded and earned. After providing the initial proposal, we decided to have our three skylights replaced along with the roofing. (The skylights were not included in the original estimate.) Repeat calls to the office with messages went unreturned. I finally had to contact Jerry Proctor personally via his cell number which is listed on his business card. He was apologetic and offered that he was training a new staff/office person and that that may explain unreturned calls. As he requested, I texted Jerry a photo of one of our skylights so that he could revise our estimate/proposal. We never heard back from him. I got tired of waiting for an updated estimate. I was left wondering if Jerry's silence and lack of communication had anything to do with a reluctance (or refusal) to work with a gay couple. I subsequently engaged the services of another local vendor. To be honest, Proctor's proposal was significantly less than that of the competing vendor's proposal. However, based on other Yelp Reviews which describe Proctor's poor customer service, the adage "you get what you pay for" applies. Personally, I'd rather pay a little more and receive top-notch customer service, rather than be quoted a lower price only to be surprised with a higher bill in the end with poor customer service. The moral of this story? Save yourself time, frustration, and headache. Look elsewhere for a roofer with better customer service. read more

We contacted Proctor last summer (2020) for a quote on the roof. They provided a quote and stated it would be done in September of 2020. I understand fully that weather delays happen and that COVID complicated things but by May we still did not have a new roof. We contacted the company several times and were emailed a promise to have it done on May 25. By June 15th there was still no roof. Again I understand weather delays but what disappointed me the most was NOT ONCE did anyone at the company call or contact us to state they were delayed and give a new date. When we called the office we were told "we were on the schedule and she would pass the message up to have the call returned". My calls were never returned once, my husbands was returned once in which he was promised that July 25 the roof would be started. On July 30th a company rep dropped off a new shingle sample booklet stating the shingles we had previously chosen they not longer used and had not used since the start of the year, translation they had no intention of starting our roof in May or July. We immediately the same day returned our shingle choice and received no communication or confirmation despite both emailing and calling. You may see where this is going, by the middle of August there was still no roof. Being fully aware we could not go another winter without a new roof both my husband and I called the company several times. I finally got through and expressed my frustration at which the office manager totally blew me off again telling me we were "on the schedule" and she didn't understand why I was so upset. We had been about a year since the promised date of delivery with no roof, we ended up going with a different company. Their lack of professionalism in communication with customers is appalling. If delays happen the customer deserves an update and a returned phone call when they have called daily for weeks with no response. Upon calling another very honest roofer in the area who was clear and stated he did not have time for the job he has said he has heard the same thing about this company. Very happy. Proctor Enterprises just finished roofing our house, detached garage and barn. They brought in a huge crew and tore off the old shingles and tarpaper and redid all three roofs plus all new gutters and downspouts on the house. Also there were some rotted plywood sheets under the old shingles on the house and they replaced those with new boards. They did all three roofs, including clean up and removing all debris in a day and a half. We called on a Monday and had the proposal on the following day. They came a week later to do the work. The crew was polite and respectful. They seemed experienced and efficient. There was a lot of debris from the tear off and it was very messy but they laid tarps down and cleaned up beautifully afterwards with rakes, brooms and leaf blowers. They even had a magnetic roller to pick up any stray nails and screws. I would highly recommend Proctor Enterprises for roofing and gutters. read more

We researched metal roofs last year, as we needed to replace our asphalt roof that was leaking. We heard many good reports about Proctor, and we had used them before for our gutters, with which we were very pleased. However, it took three visits from the owner in order to get him to leave us the three roofing choice estimates we asked for. (all asphalt, all metal, and metal on the lower roofs with asphalt on the upper body of the house) Three months later they installed the all metal roof, on both the upper body of the house, and the lower roofs. (front porch, and back porch) Because of an impending storm, no cleanup was done around the house. We can understand that, the snow hampered clean up. But once the snow was gone, the amount of cigarette detritus left behind was appalling! Add to that, none of the old metal roof undersides were covered. When standing below the roof, you can still see the old metal roof trim, all rusted. Nor were any snow holds installed. Being that we live in NYS where it snows 5 months out of a year, and given the pitch of our roof, you would expect, as we did, that snow holds were part of the roofing system. We called the company to have Jerry come out to address our issues. Mr. Proctor then gave us AN ESTIMATE, yes, after we PAID for a $20,000.00 roof, we were given an estimate for $2300.00 to install the trim to hide the old metal fascia, and install the snow holds. So, in all, we paid $20,000.00 for a roof that was NOT fully functional. Wet snow comes careening down from the upper roofs at a speed that can knock you to your knees. And you can see the rust from the old metal roofs. Needless to say, we will not give Proctor a good reference when anyone asks about our roof. Proctor is the contractor, they install roofing every day. They know the weather conditions of this area, and yet they failed to quote the entire product package for a fully functional metal roof. We are unhappy, and not at all impressed, to have to hand them EVEN MORE cash than expected. read more

I do not recommend Proctor Enterprises to anyone. If I could give 0 stars I would, but I want others to know about my horrible experience. The owner came out to do an estimate to patch our roof to fix a couple of leaks and to replace some rotted wood around the backside of our house the last week in May, promising to come out on June 2nd to do the quick job. On June 2nd it was raining so we didn't expect them to come, but never received a call to reschedule. We waited until the next Wednesday before calling, to see if they would contact us about rescheduling the job that they no call/no showed for. After not receiving a call, we called them. The receptionist was appalled that nobody contacted us back and left a note for the owner to call us. He didn't. We called again, the receptionist this time left a note for the owner and he called the next day to reschedule - a couple of weeks from the date. On that day, we waited until noon before calling the main line again, to see when that day someone would be coming out. The receptionist stated that she didn't see us on the schedule at all, meaning the owner never actually put us on the schedule. She said she would try to get someone out. A couple of hours later, someone did show up, but had no idea what he was there to do! My husband showed him, and he did end up doing great work, but said the owner would contact us again to reschedule to finish the job, but they would probably be out the next day. The next day, nobody showed up. We waited again, until Wednesday of the next week to see if anyone contacted us to reschedule. Nope! This time I called the main line to ask what was going on. The receptionist was rude, and when I said I was frustrated, just told me to have a nice day and hung up on me. I then posted on Facebook about my experience with the company. The next day, the owner called my husband, yelling at him about the "lies" I spread on Facebook, and that he has over 500 people in line. I don't see how that's my fault - you missed our appointments, why are we all of a sudden at the end of the line? The owner then said they would be out to finish the job that day or the next day. The next day we had plans outside of the house. My husband called the owner, leaving a voicemail to let him know, and asked when they would be out so we could make sure our shingles were accessible by the team. He left the same voicemail at the main company line. If we didn't hear by them we were not going to pull them out. We got a call from a neighbor many, many hours later, that a team was there to do work and couldn't find shingles. My husband called the owner, left another voicemail, and then the main line. The receptionist said she would try to contact the team to reschedule. We got home, and the work was done, just without shingles. So we were left wondering again when the work would be completed. The next day, on a Saturday (July 10th, 5 weeks after when they were supposed to be here!!!!), with no warning, someone showed up to finish the patch job. Thankfully, we were home! The work they did was great, but this headache was NOT worth it. Horrible communication, horrible owner. In the meantime, we called Spectrum for some internet issues and someone was at our house within 2 days, on time! You would think a small business would have better customer service. read more

I DO NOT recommend this company! Permit application was signed first week of August and we were told roof would be done within two weeks. Didn't hear from them for a month. Started calling. IF I could get through, either no one seemed to know when it would be done and I was promised a callback (which NEVER came), or I was told "next week." Next week comes, and I'm told "it rained, it will be next week." This goes on for a month. Every time I'm given a day, it rained. I understand that you can't control the weather, but it seems that if it rains on your scheduled date, you are pushed back to the end of the line rather than being next in line on the next clear day. Twice I was told by Jerry to find another contractor if I didn't like the way he was doing business. Finally, I'm forced to. In summary - - Proctor does not communicate with their customers - Proctor does not call back when they promise to - Proctor does not keep appointments - Proctor makes poor excuses for poor performance - Proctor's staff is rude if they do actually answer the phone - Proctor acts like your business doesn't really matter to them I would give them zero stars if this site allowed it. Since my first review, I ended up using Proctor again for replacing the roof on another rental property. Why would I use them again after such a horrible experience the first time? Because there are no better options, I was quoted $18,000 and $28,000 for a new roof from other contractors, Proctor did it for $9,750. It was difficult to nail down a date, as they consistently over-book and get behind, so they didn't actually do the work until 3-4 weeks after when they originally said they would do it. However I kept on them via email (that seems to be the best way to contact them), and eventually they did it. They seem to have done a good job (time will tell), so I'm updating my review to 3 stars. read more

summer 2021 ridge vent removed by Proctor because we kept losing tiles to the high wind. since then we have noticed a chimney leak in our basement after heavy rains. fall 2021 man from proctor came out and caulked the fireplace. spring 2022 still have the leak. called proctor, man came out and said that chimney needed recapping and vent needed replacement. 3 weeks later and still no estimate. 2 emails to jerry proctor with no response. 3 messages left at office with no reply. chimney still leaking after every rainy day. very disappointment, poor customer service. read more

Took the day to drive down from Rochester and meet him. 12:08PM Chelsea calls, "Jerry is running 30 minutes late" OK, NP. 1:15PM Chelsea Calls "Jerry didn't realize where your place was, he's done work there before, getting material down there is a problem (our place is down a 100' embankment) he's sorry but doesn't want to waste your time" Me: "Chelsea, my time is already wasted as I made a special trip down here. I can help with material, it's a small job, please have Jerry call me." 230PM - No Call - leave message, not sure whether to go home or stay and wait. 4PM drive home. The following Monday, leave another message to Jerry to call. Chelsea calls, no budging, Jerry is unwilling to call me back. What small business owner doesn't call a customer back on request. I was more than willing to help get material into the site. I would never do business with an owner who lacks the courtesy to actually call customers, much less leave them "stood up" on an appointment. For the record, Chelsea was very pleasant. We purchased a home in December and it was damaged by the seller's moving company PODS. Proctor gave PODS a quote and purchased the replacement part, however here we are now 13 phone calls and 3+ no call/no shows later. It has been one excuse after another, a complete lack of communication, and a number of "promises" that "it will be done before Monday". The one day they did show up we were out of town and the car in the driveway was in the way. At that time there was never an attempt to call us to give us a chance to have it moved. Very unreliable and a lack of regard for the customer and keeping the appointments that are scheduled. Their work was excellent from framing to roofing and siding, to drywall and beam installation. They were ALWAYS professional; no cursing or loud language. They kept me apprised of their progress and made excellent suggestions when asked. Their estimate was very appropriate for the work being done, and I have had nothing but compliments on the addition, both exterior and interior. I wish I would've read these reviews on how poor this business actually is before I called th them. By far the WORST customer service i have ever experienced! I had them do a new metal roof/siding/ seamless gutters with gutter guards for my home (1400 Sq Ft). I was quoted a price in April of 2015 which was perfect with what i could spend. However here is where the trouble starts! I knew to give it at least some time for supplies to be ordered and such so i waited until June of 2015 to give Proctor a call and see how things were lining up. They said they would be over to start it in July ( i cant remember exact date off the top of my head but i took a weeks vacation so i could be at home when they were working on it) and they never came out to start on it or give me a phone call letting me know there was a unforeseen hold up. After more phone calls they started my roof in August and it was done quickly and efficiently! InNovember, 3 months later after more phone calls and looking at the supplies just sitting in my driveway they finished up the siding and gutters for my home. After all the waiting and all the phone calls the house was done and complete or so i thought. In April of 2016 we had some heavy rains come through our area and watching the storms through my windows i noticed water just pouring over the edges of the gutters and pouring off the ends of the gutters not down the drains as it should be. After the rain stopped i climbed up to a view-able spot to look into the gutters things maybe some debris had clogged it somehow and to my surprise there were no gutter guards installed. So i called Proctor and asked about when they would be able to come out and install the guards as was paid for in my contract. They said " Jerry will call you and let you know when he can get out there" I called them many times per month from April til November 2016 being told the same thing " Jerry will call you and come out to install them" My last call was informing them that i would be calling a lawyer to take matters into my own hands since the job wasn't completed and i am getting no customer service what so ever. Within 15 minutes Jerry finally called me! Instead of saying he would be over within a few days to take care of it and saying he was sorry for my being rightfully upset or anything like that. I was told "i have $200k in my bank account right now so if you want a check for the difference i can write one out for you and its no problem" I was stunned! I said " no Jerry i want the job done that i paid for" He said he would be out the next morning at 8 am i was fine with that. However that night at 6pm (dark) they came to do the job then, IN THE DARK! The gutter guards didn't clip into the gutters as they should have and they left trimmings of metal all over the roof and grass area around my home. Here it is 2 weeks later almost Thanksgiving and we had 2.5ft of snow fall and having a metal roof the snow slid off and guess what went with it? YEP the Gutter guards because they weren't put in place properly so they got ripped out and are now hanging off my roof!!!!!!!!!! read more
