Not going to lie I kinda forgot about this place until the photos popped up on my Facebook memories today. So it inspired me to share my old photos and review on yelp. When we last went the farm was called Deere farms. The reason we enjoyed it so much is it is a alternative to hubers. Nothing personal against hubers as it is great as well. But this place does not have the insane crowds hubers does and it's more peaceful. The reason you go to farms is for fresh air and space. At hubers it can get stressful with the huge crowds and watching out for your small kids. Off memory this place has the traditional pumpkin patch, a short but neat little wagon Ride through the Forrest, corn guns, corn maze, inflatables, unique play ground and a small Petting zoo. I'm sure I'm missing some things and some things may have been added or removed by now with time and a name change. Every time me and my family went we have loved it. Pricing is a bit on the high end but like most farms during this fall season that is to be expected. They do/did have concessions with hot dogs, sodas and candy apples. So you could spend the day there and eat and take your time. We will have to try and get out here soon and check this place out again. May not be able to This year because of covid precautions (not sure what all is open or even open at all). But if they are open I would highly recommend especially if you are looking for a less crowded and different experience than hubers farm.

I've been to botanical gardens in other cities where the community and local officials don't dedicate resources to it. I'm not sure of the entire breakdown here for funding but I do know they'll obtain a round of funding, build out, and repeat. In the future, this botanical garden will rival some of the best in the country. I don't even think 25% of this place has been developed yet. On the last visit, it was for the holiday light decorations. We got super lucky, arrived, and within 20 minutes it started snowing. It made the experience so worth it. Out of other holiday happenings around town, (Light up downtown, the mega caverns, etc etc), I much preferred this even over all the others. The light decoration isn't the largest but I still think it's worth it. Kids will love it and as long as you're not a grumpy gus(No offense Gus) of a human being, you should have a good time. The gardens part through the spring and summer is also fun but limited. Again, it's going to take time as the years go by but the botanical gardens definitely adds something to the city of Louisville.

Another great reason to roam the streets of the Highlands!!…read more Highlands Fest is your typical street festival, but they have a lot of cool vendors to take a look at. It's surprisingly small for how big of an area it's in, though. They've got artists, food, beer, handmade goodies, even animal shelters raising money and promoting adoption. I also found this festival to be a great excuse to check out some nearby shops. It's a free event so I can't complain. It's not too much but it's still enough to have something fun to do for a couple hours of your weekend.

The lights offer several themes to keep it interesting, including a few tunnels to walk through. Tickets are sold individually or in groups for families, plus a parking fee. They must be reserved online with a time selected; however, we've not had trouble getting in before or after the ticket time. Warn the kids that animals will be tucked away for bedtime. Don't forget strollers and snacks, and it's always fun to stop by the Dollar Store to grab cheap glow in the dark items. Have fun!

I will admit, that I was a little "meh, okay." about the whole thing initially. I was excited about some time with my friend and the lights were secondary. But I gotta say....it was much more than I expected! The silk around the lights and armatures looked beautiful and made the animals and plants that were displayed look like stained glass. There were some interactive displays (moving ones, smoke-filled bubbles, walk-through ones) that were lovely and lots of fun, for children and grown ups alike! And fine...I will say it. It was a little bit magical! We chose a weeknight and a little later in the evening to avoid too much of a crowd. There were some congested areas, but that is to be expected. Also a little perk....seeing some of the nocturnal-y animals being a bit more active and sleeping primates :-P It reminded me a lot of the River of Lights Christmas event in Albuquerque at the BioPark, just with warmer weather and closer to my home. Both are a lot of fun and worth a visit!

Each race is a very short sprint, but they took place every 20 minutes or so. After one of the races, we went to watch the goats enjoy their well-deserved rest, food, and cuddles in one of the pens. Later, pat a sweet cow and some other farm animals that were centrally located in the festival footprint. We had brilliant weather that was slightly chilly and warmer as the afternoon went on. Everyone was in a good, welcoming mood so I got to talk with several of the craftspeople and artist vendors. That reminds me, I'm going to follow up with the flower vendor who sold beautiful flowers in clear resin as earrings, wall art, and even soap dishes.

This was the 175th year of the St Joe Picnic in 2024 and it was held the 2nd weekend of August on…read moreboth Friday 4 PM to 11 PM and Saturday 11 AM to midnight. We attended on Saturday from 5 to 8 PM. Parking was also available in the area at the seminary with a bus shuttle to and from the drop off at the front gates of the event. Wish there had been more shuttles available during peak hours because the wait was extremely long. We arrived at the drop off point at the front gates and then waited until an extremely long train (total of 6 engines) passed before we could enter. Trains pass by periodically, which is to be expected. We had pre-purchased $100 worth of tickets online for the 20% discount, and it was a bit of a challenge to find the Will Call booth for pickup. We were also surprised to be told that the tickets were only to be used for food, which is contrary to some of the wording on the website. We ultimately did patronize several game and activity booths which did in fact accept the tickets, so all was not in vain. We were aware that the special $1.75 chicken dinners offered this year in honor of the 175th would go fast. News reports indicated 4,000 dinners would be offered for an expected crowd of 50,000 patrons over the 2-day event. By the time we made it to the chicken dinner ticket booth, they sold out by 5:30. A bit disappointed, but we had been prepared it might happen. I felt bad for those who were not well aware beforehand. We ended up getting $7 beers and $3 hot dogs, playing a few games, purchasing a few raffle tickets, and then selling some of our tickets to other patrons and giving some away as we headed out early to go down the street to eat dinner at a sit down neighborhood restaurant. Our party of 6 all agreed the event felt a bit disorganized, difficult to navigate booths and the property, signage was sparse, and golf carts were annoyingly prevalent throughout the pedestrian pathways. Since this is a charity event, I was happy to participate and lend support. The volunteers are all to be commended. The property itself is also lovely beneath the mature trees and the weather was pleasant.

Overall, worth coming. Compared to other art fairs the selection is a bit more craft fair style and didn't fit our personal decor this visit.

The kiddos plus cousins recently invaded the Kentucky Science Center. We got to explore it much…read moremore than we had been able to before, and I left with more appreciation for all that it offers. The kids played with the sensory activities, the dinosaur and animal exhibits, engineering fun, the makerspace and so much more. We ended up spending a couple hours there, and we could have stayed longer if not for impending nap times. The facility was clean and so much for everyone to learn. Our family members, who were visiting from Philly, lamented the fact that they don't have a kids science museum like this by them. It was neat to see it through their eyes. We also ended up getting the membership that also includes the Louisville Zoo. As long as we visit twice, the membership will be a deal. The science center also hosts great events, including some fun ones for adults. Plus we need to go back and see a film in its theater. Like I wrote in my last review of the center, it's a gem!

It's conveniently located in the heart of downtown Louisville alongside other museums like the slugger museum. We were lucky and able to find metered parking around the corner. My biggest complaint with this museum was the price $$$ to experience ratio. The price was on par with some of the nicer museums of this nature like Cosi in Columbus, Carnegie in Pittsburgh, etc but the experience wasn't up to the same level. It also felt like there were a lot of kids not being watched closely so we had to keep an extra close eye on our younger crew in this space. The museum features playscapes, hands-on experiences, space exhibits, creamy area, water play, etc. making it ideal for ages two and up.
