Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience at Monica's Tailor and Alterations. (The name appears differently on here but same address). By horrible I mean absolutely insane and crazy. I do not think I can make this long story short, so I entered the building at 12:30pm but saw a sign saying they would be back at 11:30am but no one was there. I should've taken that as a sign to not return. Instead I returned after work about 3:45. I had three pairs of pants and a tulle skirt. When I first arrived the owner was on the phone. I waited about 5 minutes until she told me to go into a dressing room (while still on the phone). She did not get off of the phone until after she had pinned and/or chalked my items, and needed to ring me up. When she gave me the price (which is to be paid before the services are done), I asked how much for the tulle skirt. I was told $30 because there are three layers. Anyone that knows about a tulle skirt, they literally cut it with scissors. I told her I would only like to get the lining hemed and I would cut the rest myself. She still told me $30. I said I would not pay that amount for a skirt I only paid $20 for. She went down $5 and then asked what I was looking to pay. I told her $15. She did not like my response and began to raise her voice telling me I was looking for something for free. I said to her that she was making me uncomfortable and I would like to leave. She said that she would need to unpin and steam out the chalk on my items otherwise I owed her $25 for her services. I told her I would give her $10 but I did not want her to touch my items. As I held them in my hand she began yanking them. I asked her to please stop and began taking the pins out myself and whipping off the chalk. She was still tugging at my items. She said she was not going to allow me to leave until I paid her for her services. I again said that I would give her $10, even though she did not provide any services. She yelled that she spent 30 minutes with me and I must pay. I did not arrive there until 3:45, waited 5 minutes for her to see me, and it was only 4:00. I told her multiple times that she was making me uncomfortable and I wished to leave but she blocked me from the door bumping me with her body. She then turned to the door and locked me in. I then called the police. I told them the situation and that I was being held against my will. I hung up with the police and before I could pick up the phone to call my husband she said to me, I told you I would do it for $15. I said that I wanted to leave and she finally let me out. The cops arrived and I was told that because of her nationality that she doesn't understand our law. I was then told that I should not proceed with charges because I did not pay for my services. I received no services. Yes she pinned the lining of my tulle skirt and put a pin in a pant leg of two pairs of pants, and chalked one leg on the other pair of pants and the tulle part of the skirt, but the last I checked that was not a service. Not only was I upset about how I was treated by the seamstress but also how I was treated by the police. read more
