Anne Marie and Mark have established a decades-long reputation as some of the best PTs in town, and over the course of my year-long therapy, I got to experience the warmth and expert care of their entire operation first-hand. After interviewing three highly recommended PTs in Seattle, I chose ProFormance Rehab as the place to rehabilitate my broken foot and ankle. I liked their philosophy and approach, and the front desk was so on-it with insurance and scheduling that I knew working with them would be easy. The wait list for Anne Marie was long, and I'm glad I was advised to get on it early (weeks before my doc gave me the ok to start PT) because by the time I was ready, my first appointment was right around the corner. My foot and ankle break was a first major injury for me, and it was healing very slowly with a lot more swelling than anticipated (my leg looked like a black-and-blue inner tube about to burst). I felt wary and unsure about the way forward. But from the beginning, the entire staff at ProFormance showed up like pros. From the front desk rushing to open the door as I crutched in, giving me helpful recommendations on where to park to avoid tickets, to Ann Marie and Kristen helping me through those first few weeks of flare-ups and sleeplessness--answering all of my questions with care and wisdom--each visit inspired more confidence. Early on I'd often arrived worried that I was behind the curve on healing, and each time I'd leave with the sage advice that my body was right on time for its own healing process. Anne Marie and Kristen guided me through my anxious moments with understanding, tools and information--giving me the exercises and pain management and icing/swelling tips I needed in order to go home and care for myself as best as I could, before I'd see them again. Twice a week I was in the treatment room, and I always enjoyed the professional and yet super-warm rapport that each therapist had with his/her patients. During my yearlong stint I happily saw Mark, Anne Marie and Kristen interchangeably for my therapy, adoring each of them individually, and whether we were trading favorite restaurants and recipes, vacation spots, day dreams or life dreams... they all made so much more than a physical healing impact upon me. They also helped me shift my mentality from a nervous place (will I heal ok?) to an empowered one (I will heal this leg back to fighting form). And a year later, I have! Thanks to all of the physical education I received at ProFormance, I'm taking better care of my body now -- exercising and strengthening and pushing myself farther -- than I have in ten years. And while my foot of course does not feel exactly the same as it did before I broke it, I'm more aware of its vital importance than I ever was before, I have more overall balance and dexterity in my toes than I ever did before, I know when I'm doing my strengthening exercises if something's off and needs more attention, I'm KIND to my body when it decides to get quirky, and if I ever need a tune-up, I know exactly where I'm going. Summary: I have extensive experience with Anne Marie Trombold and ProFormance Rehab overall, and have the highest opinion of this facility's quality of care. Background: I've had serious lower back issues since I was 18. I've been to over a dozen physical therapists and 6 orthopedic surgeons. By my early 30s, I had given up hope that anything would help, and decided I wouldn't even go through with a second pregnancy due to the excruciating pain of the first. One of the luckiest moments of my life was meeting a guy who happened to be training in Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), which led to my giving another shot at physical therapy - this time with someone trained in MAT. There just aren't words to describe how much Anne Marie's diligence and expertise in MAT changed my life. Not only am I able to walk/run again like a normal person, but I was travel Europe, I can play basketball, and am even starting boxing lessons tomorrow. Most importantly, however, I was strong enough to carry a second child, and now have two amazing boys! What makes Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) so amazing is that it enables the muscle to reconnect with the brain so you can properly access them again. All the other physical therapy I did was unsuccessful because my muscles were so inhibited that I couldn't even access them enough to strengthen them. I would just get re-injured over and over again. Not with MAT - I would walk out with my muscles reactivated, and then work them immediately to keep them functioning between appointments. Truly an amazing technique. I have also worked with Mark and Kristen when Anne Marie was unavailable, and they were also .excellent. A huge thank-you to the entire ProFormance team, and of course, particularly Anne Marie. I've seen Mark Trombold off and on to treat my back for about 15 years. I cannot recommend him highly enough, especially for patients with back injuries. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with a spondylolisthesis. Mark helped me remain active (e.g. soccer, golf, skiing, triathlons, etc.) and mostly pain free during this time. Last year, I started to have radiating nerve pain. We worked for 6 months to see if I could get the pain under control while I explored surgical/treatment options. I could not have made it through this process without his expertise. Mark is a tremendous resource for his patients, not only for physical therapy, but also for finding other experts, if needed. I'm now a few months past my spine fusion. Physical therapy is never easy and is usually painful (don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise). But, the only person that can do the work is you. Mark will make you work, but you'll be all the better for it. Other things to know: Mark uses muscle activation techniques...which I haven't experienced at other clinics. For me, it has been an extremely effective way to approach and treat my injuries. During your appointment, you'll work with your therapist the entire time. At other clinics, you may see the PT for about half of your appointment and then be passed off to a junior person to run through your exercises. In my experience, these folks don't watch your form as closely as they should, don't modify the exercises to make them more challenging, and/or aren't as invested in your recovery as the therapist. The location is GREAT. There is a parking garage under the building and there are lovely Lake Union views that you can take in. Front desk staff is great. I have a neurological condition (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease) that results in muscle atrophy. Following a minor injury, I started to experience pain in my left hip and SI joint area. I consulted with a very reputable rehab doctor in Seattle and underwent a hip x-ray, spine MRI, two injections into my SI joint, and 3 injections into my hip joint for imagining and pain relief. I also pursued massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, traditional physical therapy, and even started the anti-inflammatory diet. However, the pain in my left hip and SI joint area persisted making it extremely difficult to stand, walk, and sit. A co-worker urged me to make an appointment with Anne Marie or Mark Trombold at Proformance Rehab. Anne Marie and Mark are trained in a special approach called Muscle Activation Technique (MAT). Anne Marie quickly determined that I had extensive weakness and inhibition in the muscles responsible for stabilized my hip and SI joint. Anne Marie and Mark are trained in MAT and are continuing to attend conferences to learn MATRx - an advanced approach. My body is particularly responsive to MATRx. I am so grateful to Anne Marie and Mark for taking the time, energy, and resources needed to pursue the MATRx training. Anne Marie has really encouraged me throughout my rehab process - which is not easy with CMT on board. She is quickly able to adjust an exercise protocol to better suit my needs and gives 110% during each session. Mark always greets me with a warm smile and words of encouragement. Tomorrow will mark the 7th month since my knee surgery. Back in August I tore my ACL, MCL, and PCL while wakeboarding. I had surgery on September 2nd 2014 and about a month later started my physical therapy at ProFormance Rehab. I remember my first day crutching into the clinic to be seen by Marc & Anne Marie. At this point I was extremely discouraged by the current state of my leg. The recovery time seemed like an eternity away. However, they started to encourage me from the first day that I walked into the clinic that I would get back to where I was before the injury. This gave me the motivation to push through rehab. Since that first day I have become somewhat of a regular at the clinic and have had the privilege of working with just about every therapist there. They all share those same qualities that I witnessed that first day I came in. Their whole staff is extremely supportive and pushes you to get better. I have been visiting the clinic at least twice a week now for the last 7 months and have been treated like family. I have seen amazing improvements in my knee that I don't believe would have been possible without the support and training they provided. The whole staff shows that they truly care about your progress and want to see you come back from your injury stronger than you were before. I relocated to Seattle from Wisconsin in 2009, recuperating from a back injury in my younger years which had produced recent back spasms. My prescription for physical therapy in the area yielded only marginal help, and I wanted to "get better. Upon arrival here, I sought a recommendation from long-time Seattle residents who were friends. Their only referral was to Proformance Rehab. My first, and all since sessions at Proformance Rehab have been positive, realistic and most helpful. Along the way I had major issues with metabolic issues which caused me almost constant body aching for 2 1/2 years. By now, I profit more from the guidance and muscle activation than I did initially. During the time I was healing from metabolic issues, I lost 15 pounds of weight, most of it muscle mass, and felt quite reluctant to exercise, since my body hurt almost always. What Anne Marie showed me were exercises I could do "gently", helping blood flow to impacted areas and helping my body heal. Over time they made a HUGE and positive difference in my sense of well-being. Today, I am rebuilding muscle mass lost during that traumatic time in my life, largely because of the confidence I gained from sessions with Anne Marie, and my experience that movement would, in the long term, help me more than none. After dealing with an obstinate hip/sacral iliac/gluteus issue for well over 2 years, I was referred to ProFormance Rehab by my MD and began my journey in January 2015. Neighborhood: Eastlake 9/17/2011 I first met Mark and the staff at Proformance Rehab in 1995 after a severe L/4-L/5,L/5-S/1 back fusion. I was given a 50/50 chance I would ever work again. The staff at Proformance Rehab did a amazing job helping me not only return to work I am able to continue driving truck. I am currently in therapy with Mark and the staff at Proformance Rehab after suffering a massive tare to my right shoulder. This was the worst tare my surgeon had ever seen and he was extremely worried I would re tare it .I knew I needed Mark to help me in therapy. My surgeon is amazed at my progress and is now sending his patients to Proformance Rehab. I made an appointment at Proformance after a recommendation from a coworker with the same problem I had - hip and sacroiliac problems during and after pregnancy. My coworker had recommended Anne-Marie, but for some reason I didn't click with her and have been seeing Amber. I have to say that she is the best physical therapist I have worked with, and I'm a physician so I feel I may have some experience. She has really helped me understand what the problem is and how I can fix it. Unlike some therapists I have seen in the past, she has helped me define a reasonable exercise program that isn't overwhelming or bores me to death. I'm surprised at the negative review from Winston m., it appears he thought the assessment was good but that the therapists are too friendly? I think it's actually important for therapists (and physicians!) to get to know their patients, as this may often identify reasons for success or failure of particular treatments. Anyway I have had a very positive experience at Proformance, and very thankful to Amber as my pain and function are much improved and I feel much more hopeful about getting full function back. read more

I can not stress enough how fabulous Anne Marie is! She uses a process called MAT that has changed my life. I can now walk without pain for the first time since a surgery in Nov of 2013. I had surgery on my big toe as a result of a trauma to it many years ago. The surgery did not give me the pain relief I had hoped and sparked some other pains in addition. I tried acupuncture, foot massage, other PT's and I was resigned to living the rest of my life in chronic pain that kept me from almost every form of exercise. (What exercise doesn't require your feet?) I had some pain relief after the first visit and it has been dramatic since. After 6 weeks I am walking long distances without pain, wearing low heels again, and confident I'll be able to do some form of dance/exercise again. I just got back from a 2 hour walk and no pain at all! Mark is equally wonderful and I've seen both of them. ProFormance is an upbeat, friendly environment where everyone truly cares about your success. I would recommend them to anyone! Would give them a 10 if available. These folks are terrific. I went to Eric Kruger for a shoulder injury. He fixed the shoulder that I was referred for and greatly improved the other one, which had been frozen several years earlier, while he was at it. The approach here is qualitatively different from what I have experienced with other physical therapists, whom I generally felt were fine, but not in the same class as Proformance Rehab at all. Eric took a very granular approach to determining, each week, the status of the shoulder, and tailoring a new set of exercises designed very specifically for the current condition. Because of this approach, the improvement was very rapid, which was a huge incentive to keep doing the exercises at home. I felt this approach was much more science-based and personal than the approach I had experienced elsewhere. I have been working with Mark and other PTs at his and Anne Maria's office for over a decade. I have had various injuries they have helped me rehab which have allowed me to continue my active life style. Most recently I experienced a severe low back disk herniation which required surgery. Mark's extremely knowledgable multifaceted approach combining PT, muscle activation therapy and Feldenkrais has been amazing. The goal of every session is to help regain strength and function and "to live it" in daily life. Doing your homework each week is an essential part of healing. I highly recommend Proformance Rehab. I have a hyper mobility condition and I've had foot, shoulder, neck and hip injuries. I've had problems working with other PT practices because they didn't know how to work with my condition and I would end up hurt by the treatment and/or exercises. I'm so happy to have found Proformance Rehab because they use a technique that works and I don't get hurt. I mainly see Ann Marie, but I've also had good experiences with four other PTs there when Ann Marie wasn't available. I want to stay an active person and I know I will need PT from time to time because of my condition. Their use of Muscle Activation Technique (or MAT, which Anne-Marie and Mark helped to develop) completely changed my quality of life for the better, for which I am infinitely grateful. I had done many different types of physical therapy every year for over a decade, following a slew of repair surgeries that added as many problems as they fixed. Ultimately, I would "hit a wall" in my PT where eventually the ramping up of exercises would cause aggravation of my injuries, leaving me to face a discouraging downward ramp of exercises to try to get back to improving my pain. By contrast, this didn't happen with MAT, so I was able to reach a much higher level of improvement; it was by far the most effective for me of any of the other types of PT I had tried. Over many years, and after many joint surgeries and back injuries, I have seen a number of physical therapists. ProFormance Rehab is the best place I have ever gone to, and for years I have gone to them exclusively - thru a knee replacement, a broken knee replacement(due to a fall), a hip replacement and severe lumbar and cervical spine problems not amenable to surgery. I was referred to Mark by a long time patient to treat tendonitis and also to stabilize my sacrum and core for my chronic pain issues. He is a great listener and engaging health practitioner. We are successfully stabilizing and healing pain in three areas of my body. He is also sensitive to my chronic pain issues and maintaining that balance of working hard but not too hard to cause a flare up of nerve pain. I feel confident that both the PT and MAT work along with my doing my "homework" exercises consistently will ensure my strength to return and a reduction in my chronic pain. I have been going to ProFormance rehab since 2012. I work mostly with Melissa. Her help has been life changing, and I am really not exaggerating. She (and the whole team) are very experienced and spend a full hour with you. I learned how to train my body to walk in a whole different way, using my many specific glutteal muscles. The MAT technique really works--there is a brain/muscle connection that few are aware of. I highly recommend ProFormance Rehab. As a former college track and field athlete I had experienced many muscle pulls, but none like the one I had recently. It was very painful and I thought I could fix it on my own and it just got worse. My physician recommended ProFormance Rehab and I had several weeks of treatment. My physical therapist had me do several different exercises and educated me on how to avoid injury in the future.
