I have Progressive Auto Insurance with full coverage for my new vehicle which is a 2025 Volkswagen Taos SE that I purchased in February of 2026 from the local Volkswagen dealership. My car has less than 5000 miles on it. Recently I was in a pretty major accident where I was T-bone by a large truck. Progressive refuses to total out my car even though right now they're at around $12,000 and it could still keep going up, but they insist on trying one part at a time and seeing how that goes, and then when it doesn't go good, they add one more part and see how that goes, and if it doesn't go good, etc., etc. etc. Also they told me that they're going to use recycled parts (some from cars that have been in accidents and could be from older years vehicles that had the same part) and aftermarket (not Volkswagen parts) on my new car because they're allowed to do that if it isn't a new car of the same year of the accident date. Even though my car is new, I purchased it from the local Volkswagen dealership in February of 2026. My car is a 2025 (two months away from being purchased in 2025. This is my insurance company that's doing this to me. I am disabled and they're causing me so much stress and aggravation that I'm not eating right and I'm not sleeping right. I've been paying for a rental car for three weeks now and I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to afford to pay for it. I might have to just not have a car for a while. which is difficult. Also, for the first week of the claim the representative handling the claim said that his system was down so he wasn't able to do anything. And recently I just found out that they were siding with the truck owner because there's a witness apparently that no one ever contacted and because they don't even have his phone number. This whole situation is horrible, and I will never recommend Progressive Insurance to anyone! Insurance is supposed to give you peace of mind that you're covered if anything like an accident happens, but instead all they've given me is stress and aggravation and big bills because besides paying for the rental car which is gonna probably cost me $1500-$2000 I also am gonna have to pay the difference between recycled parts and brand new OEM parts which will be another $1500-$2000. When they could've just put my car down as a total loss, which most insurance companies would have done with the extent of the damage. Progressive loves to market its Snapshot program as a way to "reward good driving," but don't be fooled--it's more of a trap than a benefit. In reality, they use it to surcharge you into unaffordable monthly premiums. I clearly did not read the fine print carefully enough when I signed up, but now I'm stuck with a $325 surcharge on top of a $190+ monthly premium--all because of hard braking in Austin traffic. Seriously?! If you've ever driven here, you know slamming on the brakes is practically a survival skill. The nerve of them to penalize me for avoiding accidents! Lesson learned: be very cautious with insurance companies and their so-called "savings programs." Progressive turned out to be just like the rest--quick to take your money and slow to offer real solutions. I'm officially over it. Now, I'm looking for better auto insurance options and ideally a bundle with home insurance. If anyone has recommendations for a company that actually values its customers (and doesn't sneak in ridiculous fees), I'm all ears! read more

They should be ashamed of themselves. Their driver was at fault in my accident and they ignored and pushed me to the side for more than a year. They always have an excuse for why they're taking so long or why they're not giving people what they deserve. In the end, they left the car at the mechanics shop for more than two months accruing storage fees and wouldn't take possession on the vehicle, leaving me liable for what is owed to the mechanic. When I called to make sure my policy wouldn't renew at the end of the coverage period, they marked it as rescinded and cancelled my automatic payment. I was told by an agent that I didn't have any outstanding balance or payments due at the time that I called, so I wrongfully assumed that it was resolved. Lo and behold, I receive a notice yesterday (nearly 2.5 months later) that I have an overdue payment going to collections. Why the hell would you cancel my scheduled automatic payment when all I asked was to make sure my policy didn't renew at the end of the coverage period?! And then to mark my policy as rescinded and provide me misinformation about any outstanding balance?? The worst experience I've had with any auto insurance company. Save yourself the headache and use someone else, Progressive doesn't give a shit except for taking your money - and they even suck at doing that properly. Also, in 6 months the same policy went from $155/month to $189/month. They love to price gouge! Gotta pay for all those stupid ads with Flo somehow. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars, they would have it. Cancelled my insurance with my moped because I didnt ride it anymore, but they DIDNT cancel my insurance. They kept taking money out of my bank account for a year and a half before I finally closed it. They STOLE 1200 dollars from me, and now no one will answer the phones, give me a response, and they EXPECT me to pay 40 dollars since my insurance is late. They communicate with you to set up appointments through text, but fail to tell you that they won't communicate with you through text when your car is ready to be picked up. This inconsistency in their communication process led me to have their rental for 2 days longer than I needed it!! And they made me pay for the extra days. They wouldn't even acknowledge that they were inconsistent in their communication modes. Go elsewhere. read more

A Progressive customer rear ended me and my experience with the local Austin rep from Progressive was horrific. Kara Bell was not only completely unaccesible during her business hours, she was also unbelievably rude when I contacted her supervisor to request a more accessible agent. When I confronted her on an incorrect claim, she blamed her false accusation and inability to remember previous conversations on the fact that Tuesdays are her Mondays. If I had a vehicle to drive while I waited on Kara, the delay in settlement wouldn't have been as problematic. The problem was exasturbated by the fact that Progressive terminated my rental car agreement even though I was unable to contact Kara to get the check for my totaled vehicle. At least Kara's supervisor was able to get something accomplished when I found her information via the national Progressive phone number. Last thing to note about this disaster: not even the Progressive employees that wrote me the check hold policies with Progressive!! Progressive created a lapse in my coverage due to their own incompetence and then raised my rates $20 a month for it.

A customer of 15 years, car and motorcycle policies and they drop the ball on me. An open shut case against a fuel station selling bad gas, thousands of dollars in repairs in which should be covered under comprehensive coverage and was denied. Now I'm left with a $16,000 bill and it only took them 54 days to come to "THIER" decision. Did original adjuster, Mike Esposito take a fuel sample, no, did they wait a month to get the wrong sample, yes. Do claim reps, Jina Martinez , or San Antonio manager (Jennifer Nance) return calls or emails, no. Very displeased and now seeking legal assistance. read more

A progressive customer for 5 years, never had a problem, maybe because I never had to file a claim before. The day I called to file a claim I got treated rudely by the adjuster, talking to me like I am some kind of criminal lying about how and what damage occurred to my car. The people that inspected my car were no better. Stay clear from Progressive, they portray themselves as an easy to deal with company but they are NOT. Now I waited for 2 weeks to get the same run around who quotes the same thing the first unhelpful person did. I have filed a BBB complaint in hopes I can resolve my issue but do yourself a favor and run the other way. read more
