I had open heart surgery in 2016. I was only 56 years old and found out I had heart disease. That was like a death sentence for someone so young. Since that time, until a year ago, I never felt quite right or 100%. In October 2023, I had two heart events that put me in Holy Cross Hospital in Los Angeles. My blood pressure was insanely high and I had trouble breathing. Dr. Rodney Samaan was assigned to me as my cardiologist for my stay. He was able to diagnose my symptyms and what medications would help me. Since my release from the hospital, I have been in Dr. Samaan's care. The combination of prescriptions, vitamins and an active health plan, I have felt much better than I ever have. As long as I follow his direction, I am able to do things in my life that I was limited to before. His staff is courteous, professional and compassionate. Dr. Samaan is always reachable, which for someone who has a heart condition like me, is it imperative. I would never trust any other Doctor as much as I trust Dr. Samaan. read more

One of the worst medical experiences I've had. Leaving a one-star review is not something I do often, but this was warranted. I came to this office for a heart concern and general internal medicine support. While the staff and doctor were amiable, this review isn't about personalities - it's about the professionalism and operations of the practice. At one point, the office even left me a voicemail clearly meant for another patient which is a HUGE privacy/competency concern. I arrived for my first appointment, filled out forms, and waited in an empty waiting room for AN HOUR. One person came in after me yet was seen first. I got tired of waiting and said I was gonna leave. Suddenly a room was available. I was told the wait was long as rooms were occupied, yet I never saw a single patient exit (and one magically became available? Interesting!). While in with the doctor, I explained my heart and general health concerns. He listened to my heart for maybe 2 seconds. After that "thorough" exam, he reviewed labs I brought in, listed off supplements to take, and suggested I buy them directly from him (red flag). I found some of his conclusions odd so I reviewed the labs when I got home and realized he read them incorrectly and prescribed things for issues I don't have. If he didn't understand the labs, he should've said so instead of prescribing inaccurately. He recommended a blood draw in-office. I mentioned that cortisol testing should be done in the morning and while fasting, but my appointment was in the afternoon and I had eaten. He said it was still fine. I gave him a list of labs I needed, and he said those would be ordered along with others he felt necessary. I had the labs drawn and left. When the results came back from Quest, there were immediate issues. Some tests couldn't be completed due to "no suitable specimen received" (whether this was the office's fault or Quest's, I don't know - but this has never happened in all my years doing labs there). Cortisol also came back flagged. Shocker! Multiple labs I was told would be ordered were missing. When I asked the office about it, I was told they had been ordered and there must've been a mistake. I called Quest myself and found out they were never ordered. When I spoke to the office again, I was then told that the doctor didn't feel comfortable ordering them in the first place. So I caught them in a lie. I was lied to by both the doctor (who said he'd order the labs), and by the staff (who said the labs were ordered when they weren't). This is how they operate? YIKES. Additionally, the doctor never went over the labs that did come back. Does this practice expect patients to review them on their own? I had to upload mine into ChatGPT to interpret them for me. The whole point of labs is to inform a care plan with your doctor. The doctor said he would "help me," offered "solutions," and suggested labs, yet followed through on none of it. Contacting the office was difficult. Calls went unanswered 9/10 times. When I finally got through after multiple attempts, I shared what Quest had told me. That's when I was informed the doctor won't order the missing labs he initially said he would. I requested that it be documented in my chart that my request for these labs was denied by the physician. I was then told he could no longer help me (after previously stating--completely unprompted--that he would), and that I should see another doctor. Once I began advocating for myself, it became clear this office does not respond well to informed or proactive patients. At best, this experience was disorganized. At worst, it felt dishonest. If you have a straightforward concern and don't plan to ask many questions, maybe this is the right place for you. If you value transparency, honesty, clear communication, and take an active role in your health, I'd look elsewhere. All of the above are facts and not opinion. I shared in detail because I believe patients deserve transparency. In May 2017, my mother who was 95 years old at the time felt weak. He is very personable, responsive, and accommodating. He treated my mom for almost 2 years and referred us to Dr. Raj Khandwalla in Cedars Sinai who teamed up with Dr. Raj Makkar who successfully performed a TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) surgery. He's confident, inspires confidence in his advice, and yet, he's egoless. Don't be put off by the fact that he shares office space with a cardio rehab center in a building that is in need of a face lift - it makes perfect sense financially and we get to see him on a Saturday. I have been dealing with having the Covid virus since March 23. Not only did I have every symptom the virus gives you and I was short of going to the hospital on a ventilator, which I did not want to do. 5 years ago, I was in intensive care for several weeks. No one was confident in a full, yet even a partial recovery for me. Dr. Samaan alongside the other doctors determined I had septic shock.
