I took the PMP Course in July 2018 and I must say it is a ton of information to absorb in 4 days. If you come with an expectation that the course will 'give you all the answers' - you're fooling yourself. Don't waste your time. The course is designed to prepare you for the exam and provide the tools and resources to be successful. The great part is you take an assessment exam on Day 1 to set your knowledge baseline (I scored 56%). On Day 4, you take a mock exam (I scored 68%). Everything in between (Day 1-Day 3) covers the PMBOK along with Q&A and interaction amongst the group. I originally planned to take the exam in August but was relocated for work and I put the PMP exam on the back burner. Fast forward 6 months, with little studying I jumped right back in to PMA's website and began to study. PMA's website has everything you need to brush up on your knowledge (i.e. mock exams, flash cards, course downloads, Q&A, etc.). I felt prepared enough and scheduled a Friday Webinar with a live instructor to asked my remaining questions. I took the exam in mid May. I narrowly FAILED. I immediately reached back out to PMA to extend my account and they did so without charge or question. I then sent an email to their general tutor inbox with questions pertaining to the exam. I received an email back the same day from GARY LIND. He was not MY instructor but is an instructor and tutor for PMA. GARY LIND is highly knowledgeable and most importantly has a passion for helping others succeed. GARY LIND holds many certifications and licenses; ATP, PMP, LSSMBB, CSM, CTT+ and countless Aviation certs. He asked that I take another mock exam and send him the results so he knew exactly where I was where I needed help. We scheduled a webinar during HIS lunch break and by the end of the session I felt confident enough reschedule my exam. I did so for Sunday, June 23rd and I PASSED! I took the PMP Boot Camp from 9/30/19 - 10/3/19 with Dr Mike Ikona in El Segundo. I found this to be a great experience mostly due to Dr Mike's enthusiasm, ability to provide real world examples that correspond with the course material, and Dr Mike's ability to keep the entire class engaged. Despite the fact that I had far less Project Management experience than the rest of my colleagues in the course, Dr Mike went the extra mile to make sure any questions I had were answered. Upon completion of this course, I am fully confident that I can obtain a CAPM certification. Had I completed the amount of Project Management hours required for the PMP certification I would definitely have felt confident in that exam as well. In the past, I went through a virtual classroom series and really did not feel that I could move forward in my application and test preparation. I took the PMP Boot Camp class in Irvine the week of April 22nd 2019 and now as of the week of May 13th 2019 I'm officially a PMP. The boot camp was absolutely worth it. It takes a lot for me to write a review so this is high praise to PMA's PMP bootcamp, but honestly the credit should all go to Mike Ikona (El Segundo location). He was personable, professional, and enthusiastic about the material, which goes a long way. A lot of his examples helped me grasp concepts that I don't think I'd otherwise grasp in such a quick and effective manner. The class is mentally exhausting and incredibly fast paced but Mike was extremely thorough and well prepared for the material and any other questions and tangents the class threw out. Don't get me wrong, you still need to put in the work in order to see results, but if you're serious about getting your PMP - this class is for you! I just completed the course last Thursday (04/22/2019-04/25/2019), and I am beyond thrilled that I passed the exam the following Tuesday, just 5 days after class concluded. Completed the 4-day bootcamp after wasting a week trying to review and make sense of the PMBOK by myself. Mike is the teacher to have as he has so much real life experience within various industries so he can help you relate to all the information. He was such an enthusiastic speaker but would stop on a dime to help a student understand something. I often don't see many professionals who teach able to check their ego and personal motivations at the door, but Mike is truly someone whose only desire is to see you succeed. I took the PMP bootcamp course in El Segundo early this month and was lucky to get Dr. Mike Ikona as our instructor. There was a massive amount of material to learn and I was really doubtful at the beginning that I would retain it all. Mike changed that but telling us stories and analogies that explained PMBOK theories in a way that made them interesting! He took extra time to make sure all questions were thoroughly answered and even offered to provide help us after the course. Review from my wife, Christine: Attended the PMP bootcamp course taught by Mike Ikona 4/22/19-4/25/19. You could find him at the El Segundo location. Before this class, I scored a 50% on the pre-assessment even after briefly reviewing some of the study material provided by PMA. After Mikes class I scored a 68% on the in-class mock exam. Four weeks later I am now a PMP! (Scored 'Above Target' on 4 of the 5 domains) The material provided by PMA was very helpful, especially the ability to take timed practice exams online. Mike is extremely dedicated to his students. The PPT slides provided by PMA displayed all information at once and he took hours of his own time to add animation to the slides to ensure a more effective learning experience for his students. He made himself available before class, after class, during lunch and breaks to answer any questions we werent able to fit in throughout the day. At the end of the course, Mike offered for us to reach out at anytime if we had additional questions. I let him know I would take him up in his offer to review our application project descriptions and he mentioned he wasn't working that week (so I expected him to say he would get back to me the following week) to my surprise - he finished with "i am not working this week... so i'll be able to review your email as soon as you send it" sure enough, i emailed him on a Saturday afternoon and received a response within a few hours! Project Management Academy has created a very high quality, effective program that was a key factor in helping me pass the PMP certification exam on the first attempt. I attended the bootcamp in late January in El Segundo, CA with Jim Higgins. Jim knows the material inside and out, and provided good context and examples to help us remember key concepts. I also followed the study program suggested on the PMA website including: 1) the videos - these cover the same material you receive in bootcamp and were great to help reinforce concepts, 2) reading the electronic version of the PMBOK (yes, I actually did that), 3) reading the PMA strategy guide a few times for exam tips and tricks, 4) attending the Friday tutorials (more on these in a second), and 5) taking and reviewing all of the questions on the practice exams whether I got them right or wrong - an absolute MUST. I'd like to give a big shout out to Crystal Richards and Gary Lind who were the instructors for the Friday tutorials I attended.
