I came here because my car needs a smog check and the shop I usually use does not do smog check. Instead they referred me to ProMax. I didn't get a warm fussy feeling when I discovered its website is closed and no one answered my call to schedule an appointment. I bravely dropped in thinking they couldn't be too busy. Sure enough, they were able to take care me right away. I was little disappointed when the lady at the counter told me they no longer accept coupon nor Yelp check-in discount. Came here for a smog check and couldn't be happier. Located in a strip of auto repair and smog-check shops, this is undoubtedly the best place to come in the area. I made an appointment but one is not really necessary. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Might be a little longer if you didn't have an appointment. The indoor waiting area has three chairs, a tv and restroom; it is comfortable but not exactly the height of luxury...but you'd be nutty to expect it to be. The best part? It's cheap. The cheapest I've ever paid for a smog check. And even cheaper if you use your yelp check-in. If you lived in the area why would you go anywhere else? read more

Well to say the service was sub par would be an understatement. The girl working behind the counter is rude and doesn't know what customer service is. Just like some of the other yelp reviews have already stated. She is disgruntled and is very rude to the customers. Doesn't greet you when you come in the door, she's too busy staring at her cellphone, doesn't even look at you when she finally speaks to you. She mumbles and seems very angry. To make matters worse, the shop doesn't honor their yelp deal! Horrible experience!!! Management needs to do something about her, she is purposefully killing their business. read more

I was in need of a smog check on a 1999 Ford Crown Vic so I took to Yelp to help me find somewhere close that was reasonably priced and honest. Sometimes I think the word Honest and Mechanic is a bit of an oxy moron but not in this case. We were told it would take 30 to 40 minutes but the whole process was done just under that estimate. The car passed with flying colors and so it was payment time. Promax has a check-in offer of $20 off your smog check. At first he wasn't sure if he could honor that check-in offer on an older vehicle but he did which I am thankful for because without it the cost came out to be a rough $78.00. The guys that work there were friendly and informative and since they also do other repair work I will definelty keep them bookmarked. read more

I have always come to this shop for smog checks and have had good service. Today when I came in, the girl at the desk helping me was on her phone, (actually looking at it), the whole time she was talking to me. So rude and unprofessional. I had a coupon, which they emailed to me and then she told me it would be more $10.00 more for a STAR smog, which the coupon does not state. She said"oh ya, it doesn't say it on there, but that's what it is now". All while still being on her phone. On a side note, she was very attentive when it was time to pay. read more

I took my old Honda Pilot for a new starter. Ray and his mechanics did a job great again. I had called the dealer and they were going to charge- just for parts-close to $500.00. I took it to ProMax and he bought the new part at a discount for less than $300.00 Also, my license plate was falling off and they fixed it without me asking them (just to be nice as this isn't a mechanical issue). Took my car there to have a smog check. Gave them my coupon. They did the work and charged what the coupon stated! What they didn't tell me is that I was at the wrong shop, and the coupon was for the shop next door. To me that was dishonest! They could have told me I was at the wrong shop, and said they could honor the coupon, but the didn't! If the are dishonest with this, can I trust them to be honest about my car?? Don't think so. Ray is the best! Took my car to 4 different shops and none of them could figure out why my engine light was on. Failed Smog 5 times. Last mechanic told me I needed to replace oil pump for $1600 I said no please give me my car back. Brought my car to Ray at 12:25 on my lunch break. He called me before I even got back to to work indicating what my problem was. He is so accurate and quick. He said most likely it is the oil pressure sensor. They replaced that before but the part must be from the manufacture Dodge itself otherwise your check engine light will keep coming on. He was 100% correct. Last place replaced the part with some no name no part number piece. Go figure right? I've driven my 2007 Dodge Charger R/T for 130 miles without the engine light coming back on. I am now passing smog at Rays shop. He charged me $285 for the parts and labor and the other shop wanted to charge me $1600. Be careful where you go. Mechanics are out to take advantage of you and get as much as possible. Ray isn't like that at all! He is kind, reasonable, and ethical! So happy I found this shop. Give Ray a chance I promise you will not be disappointed! He treats everybody like family. I finally found a great mechanic I can TRUST will not do me dirty. Thank you Ray and all your mechanics for fixing my car and making me pass smog after 6 months of trying! RAY is the BEST! I will recommend him to all my family and friends. read more

I couldn't possibly have a complaint about my experience at Promax Auto Service. I went in to get a smog test for my truck shortly after they opened on a Saturday morning. The employees are friendly and answered all of my questions clearly and competently. My truck got pulled in for a smog check right away, so I walked next door to get a coffee. By the time I got back with my coffee, my truck was being pulled out of the garage. It was $58 total, including the smog certificate that they send electronically to the dmv. They take all major credit cards at Promax. In total, I was there about 20 minutes. Great experience overall - 5 stars for sure. read more

Customer beware!!! I took my car there on a Thursday about a half hour before they closed for a smog check. They took my car and said it would not be an issue. 15 minutes later the guy behind the desk says there was a couple problems. I went to look at what it might be. He shows me that fuel is leaking from the fuel line and some other thing wrong with the camshaft box. I could not believe it and paid the 40 bucks and went home. When I finally got home my car was smelling of fuel and I was sure it was not safe to drive. I looked back at the leak and looked at the rest of the lined and realized that the technician took off my metal clamp and pulled the hose off. I realized they had scammed me for 40 dollars and tried to have me pay for other repairs that were not necessary. Went to another smog check place the next day and it passed just fine!!!!! Only took 15 minutes. I showed up at 8am on a Wednesday. My BMW wouldn't start afterwards which kind of freaked me out. It turns out this has happened before and waiting another 10 minutes my car reset itself and was back to normal. The first time I went here was to get my smog check. The guy at the front was really nice! In the beginning, they noticed that I was missing my emissions sticker from the hood of my car (I just got a new hood). They waited for me to drive over to the Nissan dealership and get new stickers and then completed the smog check. I appreciate that they explained to me what needed to be done. The next time I went was when I found out that a large screw had been rubbing on my power steering belt. Again, they were really nice and informative, they showed me what was wrong....I sat in the front for a little while when they out the screw back in place. They inspected the belt and told me that no damage was done to it, so I didn't need a replacement and they didn't charge me for the fix! Thanks!! read more

Great honest man who wouldn't trick you even when given the chance. This guy gets it! For example, we took a 1995 Windstar and asked him check the radiator because triple A told us that was the problem..and he told us nothing was wrong and it just needed to be cleaned! (He could have easily lied and just said yes there's a problem) A little bit dusty in his shop, but its whatever.
