Dumpy little side of the road place I had high hopes for. We like stopping off the beaten path and trying new places. Kind gentleman waited on us and when we got our food it was a little disappointing. The chopped beef sandwich was extremely hot and bread soggy like it just came out of the microwave. My guess is it's store bought BBQ and not cooked onsite. Also another tell tale sign they didn't have sliced BBQ. The beans seemed like store bought pork n beans plus some more sugar. The potato salad was pretty good, just thin almost runny and really sweet. Overall not what we hoped for but a beautiful day for a picnic on their patio. Not on my return list. read more

This is a small barbecue trailer with large taste. They have great greens, okra, barbecue, etc. we usually go on Saturday or Sunday and order 2 pounds of chopped barbecue and sauce. Even my grandkids love it. I especially love the sauce. I would highly recommend. read more

Not horrible but not that good either - unless you got the sweet tooth - if that's the case, this might be your side. The Cole slaw was more what we anticipated and quite good! Fantastic, customer service! It was closing time for them and I realized they were cash only after I had placed my order. I went to the window to apologize and cancel my order since I didn't have any cash. The lady told me to take the order and just come back the next day to pay. Who does that these days?! Woooo what a shack this is. It may not be somewhere you would normally stop because of the appearance, but you may be pleasantly surprised if you do. It is literally a little shed with an outdoor smoker. They have hand painted the name on the front. There are a few picnic tables outside, but I believe most people pick up to take home. You walk up to one window to order and when your order is ready they will have it for you at the other window. We picked up some pork and ribs. The BBQ pork was great! The ribs...I'm not sure what was wrong with them but they had a strange flavor. I thought maybe that the seasoning got over charred, because it kind of tasted like they had been dipped in dirt. First time to Alabama and you can find amazing Rib joints in so many places. What stands out about promise land is it being in the backcountry. Stand together with your family around the tailgate or trunk lid and have a blast. Brink along a few Wet One's for clean up. I should have asked, but I believe you can order your ribs well done or regular.. If you want fall of the bone ribs, just ask for it.. Everyone has a preference. The Catfish was also something to talk about - Promise land has the most interesting breading flavor and we loved it! "Outdoor seating and NO BathRooms" This is not fast food - ask for your drink in advance of your order or bring your own. it's all worth it. I'll be back again if I ever make it back to Alabama.. Another good rib joint is Dreamland and Archibald's - the difference is in the flavors with dreamland being the most interesting flavor - once again, request fall of the bone if that is your preference at anyone of these places, otherwise you might end up with a chew version (not sure what you would call it) read more

Only had $10 cash on me and didn't realize they only take cash! So I asked what could I get for me and my brother for $10? "2 Small bbq's" was the answer. It was their pulled pork on hamburger buns. The pork was cooked well and had a nice flavor and was juicy. The bbq sauce was ketchup based and not overpowering but just enough considering the pork tasted really good. One large rib, lots of pulled pork and a whole chicken wing was included. The potato salad was fresh with lots of pickles the way I like. Had the banana pudding even though I was full. Oh this bbq is so dang good but they are very far from my home so I rarely get to indulge. This place is on the side of a hwy and it's not a pretty building to look at, doesn't even have inside seating, but boy do they do bbq right. I always get the bbq pork sandwich with fries and it's perfection. The meat has the perfect amount of smoke flavor and the sauce is just right. Not too sweet and not too vinegary. The prices seem reasonable for the type of food and how much you get. I always stop when I am in the area and will continue to do so. read more
