They charge per person entering the orchard ($14 per peck bag = 1 person; $28 per half bushel bag = 2 people). Having driven all this way it was as a no brainer to get the 2 half bushels. Being the first ones in the orchard was great, there were soooo many apples to pick and they were all so delicious! Weekends they have live reggae music, which welcomed us as we parked our cars. Don't forget about the apple cider donuts that were being made FRESH throughout the day for $8/half dozen or $15/dozen. I haven't had freshly made apple cider donuts in so long (near NYC it's always pre-made for who knows how long and a bit stale), this was such a treat!!! We're already planning our next drive up here later in the season for other types of apples!

We ate the whole bag in the parking lot. I had to go back and get more to bring home. We went there for apple picking and I have to say their per person bag requirement kind of caught me off guard. I've been to other places where you can buy a bag or as many bags as you want to go pick apples but this one requires every single person to purchase a bag. A peck of apples is $14. So you can imagine if you have a bunch of kids over their age requirement and have to buy a bag for each kid, it's very expensive and you get more apples than you could possibly eat. We go for the experience and usually fill a bushel bag or two. I did not like that. It was the reason why we did not go to Bowman's. They got us anyway. The store was filled with fresh vegetables and apples and all kinds of things you could purchase. Breads, maple syrup, soup mixes. I would come here just to shop! There was a live music, which really set the tone for a beautiful fall day. We bought some cute bucket hats from a vendor out front. The staff was super friendly too!

Even the food truck vendors had nothing unique. I guess it's time for us to check out the Hudson Valley again.

Sadly, the winery wasn't attached to the other store (although, it's probably a good thing at the end of the day). At the edge of the parking lot, in front of the other buildingds, sits this little cabin/shack/pilgrim house looking thing. Inside it was a broham, a counter, and some Vermont wine. I was half excited and half scared to try Vermont wine as I do not know the region as being particularly good for that sort of thing. So, I wasn't too surprised/disappointed when I found out they only made fruit wines - think apple, blueberry, etc. I tried the hard apple cider, it was ok. I tried some of the other fruit wines - all very sweet with a hot alcoholic burn on the aftertaste. Personally, I like dry wines so wine from the cold places (Vermont) doesn't do it for me. But our friend working the counter was pretty cool and chatted us up just enough. So, that made the experience a little better. If you like sweet wines I would definitely try this place out (if only for a free taste) when you're passing through Bennington.

The girls in our group who did the beer testing weren't impressed and said they wished they'd done wine tasting instead. I guess that's what you get when you try to do a beer tasting at a winery haha. The winery itself is cute and there are a few nice seating options outside to enjoy the weather and wine outside. Because we couldn't go on any tour, I only know this... it was built in 1864-65. It was also home to two Vermont governors, and it was visited by President Benjamin Harrison in 1891 when he was in town to dedicate the Bennington Monument. While the mansion may be closed most of the week, one could arrange to have private events held at this beautiful location... like a wedding, as other Yelpers have attested. If we're ever in Bennington again, I hope we could arrange for it to be over a weekend when the mansion is open to viewing.

The alpacas and all the other animals (peacocks, turkeys, doggos) are all loved and well taken care of. Elaine is kind, patient and interested in the folks that visit her. You could sit and talk for hours! Duchess, the beautiful white lady of the farm is a working dog and still sleeps inside with her family at night. Only recommendation I would make is maybe a sink available to wash your hands. We didnt really get dirty but It's a farm, after all!

I am so glad to get the experience of meeting lots of these beautiful animals in these farm. Woodland meadow farm is a working farm. The owners breed alpacas for business. They started with only 3 alpacas and now after 11 years of operation, they have 73 total of different mixed breeds. It is a huge farm that can accommodate all the animals daily activities. Alpacas are adorable, charming and friendly. As per understanding, alpacas are raised basically for their luxurious and expensive fibers. It is being sell per pound to turn into hats, scarves, blankets , sweaters etc. If at once you received an item made of alpacas fiber, it is said to be a precious possession that lasts years time. They are scheduled to be sheered once a year. During our visit, the owner let me dip my finger how much deep one alpaca fiber has , about 4 inches deep. Cool! We witnessed the love of the owners to these creatures , an inspiration to reckon with. Being said , who knows, I maybe farming these wonderful creatures in the future or may get one as pet. We learned a lot about alpacas from the owners during this visit. The farm is worth visiting if you have the love for these animals. Come visit the farm and get to experience a unique enchantment.

She is very open to sharing every bit of knowledge she has learned herself from the day she began this farm. Her alpaca are very well kept and it shows. They have good build, attitude and prosperous fiber. There is ample room and a well thought out fencing layout that keeps these alpaca happy! The alpacas are certainly very beautiful and entertaining, but the real reason to come to the Alpaca Shack is to visit Sandy, their owner-- she obviously really loves what she does and told us amusing alpaca stories for the entire hour we were there. It was not an experience I anticipate being replicated anytime soon, and one I am very glad I had.
