I saw the sign for ice cream so we pulled into the parking lot. The owner happened to be in the shop when we arrived and we got an impromptu Maple Syrup tasting of the highest quality. We learned about how different temperatures yield different results and what the different colored maple syrups look and taste like. We bought fresh eggs, baked goods, and last but definitely not least we ate some maple soft serve ice cream. It was delicious and I wish I could have some shipped home to Massachusetts. I hope to visit again during the sugaring season (usually March). Highly recommended!

Super creamy and sticky with subtle flavors of maple syrup immersed throughout melts in your mouth and leaves you feeling like you want more! In February and March, their Sugar House is open and you can request a free tour of how they make and bottle their maple syrup. From the tapped trees to the raw syrup in vats, to boiling the syrup and taste-testing, the owner and the staff were very knowledgeable and great with kids! The farmers market meets down below the end every Saturday. I'm not sure when it starts but it ends sharply at 1 PM. The farmers market was the favorite part of our day. We sampled food from many different local vendors that were so incredible. The best Greek yogurt I've ever had, wonderful wine, cookies from Scabdanavia and local produce. We even sampled water from the springs. Next we went on to a local brewery and enjoy pizza and a beer. After that we went to a farm to table comfort food restaurant. Next was a local market where we tasted yummy cheese. Lastly we stopped at a honey and tea place where we sampled honey's and a little tiny dessert with cheese and apple. If you're going to open the first brewery in a town that has been dry for almost 100 years (in case…read moreyou were wondering why Argyle Brewing is one town over...) you'd better do it right. And this place does it more than right. Opening in November shortly after the ordinance allowing alcohol sales in the town, Highlander brews excellent beers served in a lovely setting. Billing themselves as a "farm to pint" brewery, Highlander is situated on a beautiful, sprawling farm, where they grow their own hops and barley (used in their own products as well as to produce malt for themselves and to sell to other local brewers). While they have a cool indoor taproom, the current Covid restrictions naturally mean that outdoor seating with food options are the current setting, which only allows you to enjoy their excellent beer with a lovely outdoor view. I tried the Fir Baby, a hazy ale with that might be a great option for people who dislike the overpowering hophead IPAs--the beer featured the unique touch of fir tips from farm Christmas trees in lieu of/to supplement traditional hops, creating an interesting flavor profile. The other beer I tried was simply excellent, a Brown Maple Ale. Now I love brown ales and I love maple syrup, but offerings like this always make me a little nervous, as I fear they inevitably turn out too sweet. Not this, which had a wonderful beer flavor with just that slight maple hint at the end--according to the brewer, the maple is added in fermentation and not after. At any rate, it was subtle and wonderfully done. My friend tried the Blonde Ale and the Strawberry Rhubarb Blonde and enjoyed them both. Diverse beer offerings (a couple of IPAs on the menu as well), all reasonably priced and most in the 5-6.5% ABV range. Would have liked to try a stout, but they said they usually feature those more in the winter than the summer, which is understandable. The food truck was a nice touch--if it's not just a Covid tack-on, I think it would be a great idea to keep. Having a few options (such as the tasty mozzarella sticks) to try with the beer was a nice touch, and probably kept us there a bit longer. Staff was friendly--our server Nicole was great and knowledgeable about the beers, and as mentioned, one of the owners, Jeff, swung by to ask how we were enjoying everything and discuss the beers and ingredients with us. Also as mentioned, a very lovely setting to enjoy a beer. A bit tough to get to/off the main road, but the trip--and the beer--is certainly worth it.

This is kinda what you'd expect from a gift/souvenir shop in Vermont. They also had lots of stuffed animals including a giant tiger displayed outside and a moose, which the moose was a cheaper price than I expected for its size. Also as you would expect since it is Vermont they had lots of maple syrup including sizes of bottles that would make Costco sizes seem small. Even as someone currently being a tourist, I enjoy browsing stores like this but typically will skip on buying much. I find you usually run into two different issues, first being poor quality items you buy and second being overpriced and often you get both. The highlight of this place in my opinion that makes it a little more than just a gift shop was the dessert and cheese part. Despite this we still did not buy anything but some of the treats did look very good! Service wise while we did not buy anything did lack any sort of welcome or anything said at all by staff. It does not take much effort to even just say "hello welcome in". If you find yourself in the area going to any of the nearby shops or other things to do you might as well pop in and browse at least.
