Ron was also very helpful in addressing a number of questions we had, both before and after our cabinet selection, and always responded promptly to our emails and calls. He also came to our condo at least three times (and probably more), first to offer his input on design, which proved to be invaluable, and later to work out details, make changes, etc. and to participate in the delivery and installation of the cabinets. He also worked with my wife, who wanted to add a feature as a surprise to me, locating what she wanted, changing the plans as necessary to install it, etc., all without disclosing her surprise to me. Now that the cabinets have been installed, some adjustments/corrections/additions will be necessary. Ron has cooperated fully and promptly, including offering to do some work that is really the responsibility of the installing contractor, and we are completely confident that all final matters will be fully and fairly addressed/resolved as promptly as possible. Finally, this company's prices were highly competitive. We "price shopped" the cabinetry at other well known suppliers in Metro Detroit, and no one else even came close to matching, let alone beating, the price and quality Whole Builder Supply offered. We were a bit surprised because the estimate that we were told from where we purchased from said it would be 4 weeks. I can't remember the gent's name who asked me which side of the sink I wanted the soap dispenser on, so when I called my husband to ask, he walked me with out to my Jeep and tossed this massive deep sink and faucet over his shoulder like it was a pillow of air or something. After I dropped it off and went back home, we drove back to the warehouse we were purchasing the granite from down the road from them at MSI. (mind you I'm in the Ann Arbor area, they are NOT close!) As promised we had it installed on Monday with the edging we asked for, and it looks perfect! Talk about fast...I had the granite selected on Thursday and it was installed on Monday! During the estimate, their representative was knowledgeable, friendly, and open to all our questions about the company and the work we needed. Scheduling was clear, and they fit us in faster than any other company we contacted. Their pricing was also very competitive compared to other local companies we'd reached out to. The work itself was solid. Our wood floors are at least 30 years old--probably older--so while they don't look brand new, they look *great*. The team worked consistently and made repairs where needed. If you expect decades‑old flooring to look brand‑new, you might be better off installing a completely new floor. My only hesitation was communication with the crew leader during the project. The job took about five days, and on the first day they arrived several hours late. The roads were snowy and unplowed, which is understandable, but there was no communication about the delay. I also never heard any updates as the project went on throughout the week unless I chased after them. A little transparency goes a long way. But hey--they offer functional flooring, not functional communication. Jokes aside, I'd hire them again.

Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward project turned into a very disappointing experience involving poor communication, questionable decisions made during the work and a finished product that required multiple attempts to fix. Throughout the project, decisions were made by the crew without asking us how we wanted things handled. Those decisions resulted in visible filler, patched areas, and other issues in our newly refinished floors that required them to come back out and attempt repairs. For a project of this size and cost, we expected much better attention to detail and communication. When we raised concerns, the crew lead who originally did the work was confrontational and not helpful in resolving the situation. Another lead eventually came out to review the issues, but by that point there was only so much that could realistically be done to fix the problems. Communication with the office was also frustrating. Emails frequently went unanswered and we had to call multiple times just to get responses. At times it felt like the focus was more on making the issue go away rather than properly addressing the quality of the work. We even reached out afterward about repairing a scratch made by our cleaners (which we offered to pay for), and they never followed up with us to schedule the repair. What makes this especially disappointing is that we had used Functional Floors before and had a great experience, which is why we hired them again and even recommended them to a friend (who also had a poor experience and lots of re-work). This project cost us over $15k and the level of workmanship and service fell well short of what we expected. Many of these issues likely could have been avoided with better communication, attention to detail, and a more professional approach to addressing customer concerns.

I found a countertop and asked questions about veining because the countertops that I picked out had veins. First off the guy came to measure the countertops and they were cut two short and they gave us a hard time about that and then to tell me that I could have my contractor fill in the holes. Second I decided to use the countertops as back splashes and again asked the question about the veins matching. They told me they would match. Not the case at all. When they came to install for a second time the veins do not match the backsplashes after I was told they would. They claimed they never said this which is not true and told me that I had buyers remorse. For a $10,000 job they are doing sloppy work and do not care about the customers. I had asked about a discount because now I have to live with ugly countertops that do not match and will only receive a 5% discount which is nothing. The owner does not care about his customers and only cares about his money. Buyers beware of this place. Also when you walk into the shop the staff look miserable as they never have smiles on their faces, it's like they can't be bothered to get up to help you. Buyers beware of this place.
