Amazing spot to stay , secluded with river access across the road. Fun place to stay.

The Prospect Hotel is one of my favorite quaint places to stay in the country. The historic connection is fascinating. Love sitting on the patio with drink, the restaurant is tourist pricy, but good. The staff always friendly and accommodating. Conversely, I'm not a fan of the motel. The refrigerator made a loud humming noise that kept us awake. Moreover, the freezer barely kept items cold. The rooms are kinda dated: someone closes a door a few doors down and your room shakes. They do accommodate pets and there's a nice grassy area. Overall, it's still a gem of a place. read more

My fiancé, Tim, booked a room at the historic hotel for a budget-friendly stay to visit Crater Lake. It included breakfast and the food was delicious! The first morning we were served French toast with a side of bacon and a medium-boiled egg. The second morning we were served pancakes topped with berry jam with a side of honey-glazed sausages and the egg. Dinner is separate from the bed and breakfast. The portions for dinner are huge! The salad was amazing, we ordered it twice in a row. We liked our prime rib and lasagna. We stayed in the Dewey Hill room, which came with a full-sized bed. It was quite small but very homely and intimate. We made do with what little space we had. Everything was clean and pretty much what you would expect for this kind of hotel. Fred, the owner, was a great host. When he checked us in, he gave us a rundown of what to check out around the area. He is the one who also served us breakfast and came by to make conversation. We stayed in the Roosevelt room (balcony overlooking trees and the main road). I had REALLY hoped to see some spirits but unfortunately, no ghostly visits. That's ok! My honey and I enjoyed a delicious dinner of wine and lasagna (uuhhm YUMMY!) and found the room and bed incredibly clean and cozy. The bed was also incredibly comfortable, and I loved the retro decor. It felt so homey and ....yeah, homey! It felt like I was sleeping over at grandma's house and that just brought me joy. I can't wait to visit again! A historic site in an absolutely stunning corner of Oregon. Waterfalls and easy trails through the stunning trees...just be prepared to battle mosquitoes! read more

I am not going to share details of a stay, but just wanted people to know that the history of the Prospect Hotel is incorrect as they have written. No one knows the date or year of when Teddy Roosevelt stayed at the hotel. Those records were lost. It was Albian and Jenny Boothy that started the hotel back in the 1889 ish. Then it was sold to the Grieves and then to the Records, who were remodeling it, when her husband, Pete Record, died in a plane crash. Knowing this is what her husband wanted, she got in contact with the Historical Society to help her finish the remodel. You are from Portland and have no clue what the history of the hotel is. You are misleading the guests. Maybe you should do some detective work, before posting crap. read more

While touring my way through Oregon, I stumbled upon this hotel because it was the closest place available to Crater Lake National Park. I called about availability and Dre answered. She was extremely helpful when I told her that we were hiking a couple of trails before we would head to Prospect, she told me about the trails next to the hotel and suggested we check them out. They were breathtaking! I chose to stay in the motel behind the hotel so that we could have our own beds. It still had a box TV and the same digital alarm clock and art that I had in the 80s. The room was clean and comfortable. The grounds were so beautiful and has one of the biggest redwood trees that I've seen. We did eat dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the food was great. Dre was such a joy to visit with and made so many recommendations of things to see that we attempted to do them all. When I go back to Oregon, I will definitely stay here again. read more

Big proviso: I did not stay in the historic part. Instead all they had was the "motel" part, which has equipment from the 1970s and generally looks like it. Ok, I can dig an occasional vintage experience. But they charge a ludicrous full price for it which is outrageous and does not even include breakfast. Dinner was nice. We stayed for two nights, I paid for 3 nights but just couldn't sleep on the bed another night. The bed was extremely uncomfortable we believe there were two box springs and no mattress. I was informed by the manager "some people like a hard bed" and said he would have houskeeping add padding to the bed, a thin blanket was added under the sheets. At least they tried. The room had a three ring binder with info and menus, we couldn't seem to get the kitchen to understand we would be happy to pay for a meal in the restaurant, at mealtime. This is Prospect Historic Hotel - but all bets are off if you stay in the motel I guess the menu is for the hotel only. read more

My husband stated that after eating the food it did not go down well, he started vomiting within a few hours and had diarrhea. I called and spoke with Linda who was very rude and would not answer me whether it was cooked fresh that day. Meat was tough and did not have the typical look with it being darker on the top. Will be reporting to public health department sadly It was a lovely building and the salad and berry cheesecake was delicious. Waitress was very nice as well. Linda threatened to call the Sheriff if I called back. I had to call 3 times because she hung up on me twice read more

Decent and clean place to stay within an hour of Crater Lake National Park. Staff is very friendly. If your looking for a basic clean hotel near the park this is it. With the Bed and Breakfast package the breakfast is set each day of the week with no alternative selections. It is a large hearty breakfast with tasty food that allowed us to skip lunch. Eating dinner at the Dinner House is expensive with limited choices. Portions are large and food is tasty. Some what hit or miss on the food being hot. The quality of the meats used is not "Prime." Except for the chicken and lasagna everything was tough. Having dinner here one night in our trip was worth trying. Pleasant service although it was slow we didn't mind since we were not going anywhere else after. The one choice for dessert is made fresh each day and was the best part of our meal. Ten minutes away is Beckie's Cafe and the food is much better at half the price. read more

The hotel is under new ownership and the dining room is closed. We had made reservations weeks before for a special family reunion, but they failed to call us and notify us. Fortunately, the Prospect Cafe is down the street and we had a great meal there. read more

My wife and I stayed here a few years ago and it was a perfect distance from Crater Lake, which was great. The owners and staff were very kind and the dinner we had was fantastic! (we had steak and salmon). Dinner was better than breakfast, but that happens. Our room was clean and quiet, but we had no control over the temperature in our room, which was unfortunate since it was July. It was an overall nice place to stay and it was a great jumping point to Crater Lake! read more

Friendly people. Beautiful area. Clean room. Terrible bed. We booked a stay here at the historic hotel bed and breakfast because we thought it looked like fun and it was on our path on a 5 day road trip. We thought it would be nice to see Crater Lake for a day and not be rushed on to our next destination. I made the reservation for our stay 9 days in advance (booked 12/22 for a 12/31 stay). The day before our scheduled stay at the B&B we got a call that the heat in the house had gone out and wouldn't be able to be fixed until the next week. We were told we would be put over in the motel instead, for our stay, and that breakfast would not be provided. Even though we were disappointed we completely understand that things like this happen so we didn't make a fuss over it. However, we really only booked a stay here to be able to stay in the historic house. I love history and I was really intrigued by the extensive history of the house. We decided to stay anyway and make the most of it and still make our way up to Crater Lake for the day. When we finally settled in for the night is when things went down hill fast. When I woke up several times through the night I really wished we had moved on. The bed was awful. The mattress was beyond firm, it was hard and extremely uncomfortable. Almost NO padding to the mattress at all. I actually got up after an hour of trying to sleep, went out to our vehicle, got a blanket, laid it down on top of the bed, and then tried to sleep for a bit on top of the blanket, just to get some padding. It didn't help much. We didn't get more than an hour or two of sleep the whole night. We both gave up trying to sleep by 6am, got up sore, with stiff necks, and we were exhausted from lack of sleep. The room itself was clean, stayed warm, had many tv channels to watch through the night since we couldn't sleep. The housekeeper does a very good job keeping the room clean. Since we really only took the motel option to get some sleep for the night before moving further north I can't recommend this place for a good nights sleep due to the bed. Hopefully some day we'll pass back through this area and we'll be able to stay in the historic house but we definitely won't stay in the motel again. read more

Amazing place in the middle of south central Oregon. Enjoyed relaxing on the front porch and hiking on the property and seeing the Rogue River view and hiking trails just down the street. Great place to stay if you are visiting Crater Lake. Restaurant had incredible food and service. Nice place next door "The Trophy Room" to have a chilled beverage and get to meet some locals for great conversation. read more

The B&B was good. Not high end, but clean and comfortable. Had dinner at the dining room - rib eye was great with the blu cheese butter. My wife had the lasagna and thought it was good. Dessert was also great a chocolate brownie sundae. Breakfast wasn't as good. The pancakes were not fluffy like expected and the egg wasn't easy to eat. Also the polish sausage wasn't a great choice as bacon or regular breakfast sausage would be better Otherwise the service was good and friendly. What a fantastic place hidden in a valley surrounded by streams and magnificent people. I was part of a large cross country skiing group and we just took over the hotel and the motel behind it. I was the only Paleo guest of 30 people. All the delicious home-made family style dinners and breakfast items were modified to accommodate me. Fresh vegetables, meats, salads and fresh fruit. It was just a splendid time. I love the soaps, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. The hotel and my room is kept clean and tidy. There are lots of stories during dinner and breakfast. Helpful stuff like weather reports and skiing conditions. Although I don't drink wine, Fred and Karen purchase local wine and my companions were raving about the flavors and textures. Actually the aroma coming out of those bottles is enough pleasure for me. The only complaint I heard and I also experienced is regarding the firmness of all the beds. I don't require a feather bed, nor do I like very firm inflexible beds. My bed was hard and I could feel a few coils trying to escape; I feared being skewered at night. After the first evening, several skiers met for coffee before breakfast. I overhead similar stories about their mattresses. Overall, I can't wait to return to visit these wonderful people and fantastic location. I'll make sure to call ahead to request a Paleo dinner, breakfast and dessert. There is a music festival in the summer that starts right on their back yard. During dinner we heard local musicians recordings in the background. I felt as if I was home with family surrounded by a rural beautiful landscape. read more

Stayed here during a heat wave and appreciated the strong AC and comfortable beds. Rachel at the front desk was very helpful in walking us though the local map of the area. We enjoyed playing horseshoe, seeing the horse, walking to the pizza place down the street, and going on the local hikes. We hiked to see the waterfalls, the avenue of giant boulders, and the lava tubes on our way to Crater Lake. We had a pleasant time and would stay here again as it's a nice distance from Crater Lake. read more

Good places to stay if you're looking for something within an hour of crater lake. They have three waterfalls within a mile of the hotel, which are amazing. Other than that, not much around, expect a restaurant, a small convenience, store, and gas station. As far as the hotel goes, the rooms are clean, but really dated. The beds and pillows are so uncomfortable we were not able to sleep well. The mattress is simply a box spring and the pillows are small without much stuffing. There is a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room. It's called a bed and breakfast, but i didn't see any options for breakfast, only dinner, if you make reservations in advance. If you're into historic hotels and want to be away from the huddle and bustle of the city, then this is the place to stay, just bring you own pillow. read more

The open 24/7 is laughable considering I sat at the front door for 2 1/2 hours to book a room that the owner had told me was available. I even forwent rooms at other locations for it when it turns out he had been totally wrong and when I checked with him after the discovery he just gave me some shit. The 2 1/2 were nice for getting to know the other 10 guests that were lucky enough to have rooms but unlucky enough to be put at the owners mercy. We all got to sit outside on the front porch for hours some of the guests 70+. I recommend you check to make sure this won't happen to you before booking a room. read more

The Prospect Hotel is a great choice for visiting Crater Lake if you're good with a historic B&B option. Everything was clean and in good repair. We visited in Summer and the hotel's central air conditioning kept us comfortable. the dinner menu is not extensive but the quality of the food was very good and the prices reasonable for these days. A selection of Southern Oregon wines are offered, also reasonably priced. Sort of a standard hot breakfast that was very convenient for us and included with the room. It's maybe a 30 minute drive to Crater Lake and there are some pleasant short hikes near the hotel. I didn't see any better lodging options closer to the lake. read more

This place is a challenge to review since it is a Historic hotel, a motel and a dinner establishment We stayed in the hotel, in the motel and had dinner at the property, but this review is only of the dinner. Dinner is served on the first floor with two rooms setup for dinner, with 5 tables in each room. (These are the same rooms used for breakfast for those individuals staying in the Historic hotel.) The room is arranged in a very formal fashion with white table cloths and flowers on the tables. The atmosphere is quiet so you can easily have conversation with your table companions. They have a small menu and we tried their Lemon Dill Salmon and their petite Prime Rib. The fish was flaky. moist and flavorful. The Prime Rib was cooked as requested and was very flavorful. The mashed potatoes were a nice accompaniment as were the seasonal vegetables. The wait staff was small but worked the room well and refilled coffee when requested. Dinners were in the $30 range and the quality was in line with the pricing. The only other restaurant in the area is a cafe which is not in the same league as this establishment. read more

We had a reservation for two nights, but when we arrived, they had given our room to someone else! We had to drive one hour back to Medford on a dark, two-lane road with no cell service to find another hotel. Then we had to change our whole vacation because of it. I wrote them an email and they didn't respond. They knew they did the wrong thing and weren't willing to own up to it. They could have at least compensated us for the two hours of extra gas and our time. Very unprofessional. When we arrived, they said that *we* had cancelled the reservation at 6pm that evening. There is no way we even could have done that because we were at Crater Lake without cell service at 6pm. In addition, we would never have done that because it would have left us with no place to stay in an area with limited accommodations. Beware! There is another Yelp reviewer (1-star) who had the same thing happen to them so this is a pattern for this hotel. You think you have a reservation, but they cancel it and you are left miles from nowhere with no place to stay. read more

Great B&B. The owners and operators are super nice and helpful. They also prepare the breakfasts (included with the night stay) and dinners. The food was excellent. The breakfast with fruit, buckwheat waffles, sausage and egg was delicious- the best breakfast I had during a 10 day road trip in northern calif and Oregon. My wife and I had prime rib for dinner and agin delicious. The rooms are truly delightful and the entire property is so tasteful. read more

This lovely old hotel and dinner house met our expectations. Not fancy or upscale by any stretch but it does the job. It's about 40 mins from Crater Lake which for this area is considered close by. The room (we stayed in the Records Suite) was large and clean enough. The bathroom is small but good enough. Breakfast is included and they do a nice job. One morning was French toast, fruit, hard boiled egg and sausage. The second morning was scrambled egg goulash, bacon, fruit and toast. We had dinner here twice as it's the only game in town. While not free it's reasonably priced and pretty good. An overall pleasant experience. We were here for Crater Lake not the food and accommodations. But it's worth staying here. And everyone who works here is very sweet and helpful. read more

Our room was a tiny room, toilet was not clean, no internet service on the third floor. Make sure you don't stay in the Muir room on the third floor. Owners are very very rude, they will blame you instead of acknowledging any problem. The staff is nice though, breakfast was also very good. Dinner was okay okay if you don't have anywhere else to eat. P.S. Owners are so self-absorbed. It will be a nightmare if you end up having any issues. read more

I loved this place. We stayed in the motel area because we were traveling with our dog and received great service, including a 'dog blanket' in the room. The units are located toward the back of the property and we could hear the creek bubbling at night. The big porch at the hotel is perfect for 'hanging out' and the grounds were beautiful and walk-friendly. A couple of waterfalls are also within walking distance. The dinner house was really delicious-it was a pleasant and welcome surprise after a long travel day, and I highly recommend it. Even though it was a Sunday night early in the tourist season, everything from salad to dessert was good. read more

My husband booked this B&B as a break in the middle of two backpacking trips in Central/Southern Oregon. It was a very nice, relaxing stay. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in the John Muir room on the 3rd floor. This is one of the smaller rooms with a sloped ceiling. It was very charming and the lower ceilings were fine for me, as I'm only 5' 2", but my 6' tall husband had to "mind his head". A tiny, but functional in-suite bathroom. Breakfast is included with your room in the historic hotel. It was very nicely presented. They have a different breakfast each day of the week. Ours was fruit, buckwheat pancakes with a berry, hazelnut topping, medium-boiled egg and sausage, plus juice and (good) coffee. Only people staying in the B&B can order breakfast, but the Dinner House if open to the public in the evenings. We had a very nice dinner, ordering the lasagna and an interesting chicken dish with a molasses-tobasco sauce. The feature Oregon wines and the one we tried was very good. The only reason I am not giving them five stars, is they are a bit short-staffed (they had posters up advertising open positions...I'm sure it is hard to find seasonal help in such a small town) and we sometimes had to wait a bit too long to be helped. But again, once someone was available, they were very nice and helpful. I recommend this place. The history is very interesting as well. read more

We stayed in the hotel portion - not the B&B, although the B&B looks very cute. WIFI is free in the B&B and hotel areas, but it is painfully slow. So put away your smartphone/laptop - and just enjoy the scenery. The rooms were [mostly] clean, although the next morning I went to make coffee and of course the coffeemaker had not been cleaned, and the old coffee grinds of the previous user were still in the basket. Blech. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful, no complaints there. We also had dinner at the Dinner House - service was again, top notch. The food was also VERY good; however, a bit pricey for the size of this town ($28 for a salmon plate - which is what I pay in Portland). Breakfast is an option you can also add (for $13) if you are not staying in the B&B. We chose to add breakfast, and while it was nice, it was neither hearty or filling in any way. It was a small bowl of mixed fruit, followed by a small waffle and one soft-cooked egg, and a link of kielbasa sausage (which they left off my plate to accommodate my veg preference. We left actually still hungry, and wondering why we paid $13 for a breakfast (each). So I would probably return, I would probably have the dinner, but I would skip the breakfast - not worth it. read more

The motel was clean; we are thankful for that, at least. They were definitely adhering to pandemic rules, so we felt safe. However, they had no way for us to communicate outside of the motel. They didn't have Wi-fi and their landline could only connect you to local numbers. If you're a local, maybe that wouldn't have been a big deal. However, we had driven over 12 hours and we had no way to communicate. It was immensely frustrating and asking for means of communication to the staff was like pulling teeth. read more

Stayed in motel The owner was incredibly friendly and charming, if only to make up for the fact that most of the services in the room were non operational. During our stay the bathroom light went completely out and the sounds from the heater were akin to a Boeing 767 taking off in the parking lot. Along with this the WIFI was terribly unreliable which is difficult for any traveler in such a remote area. We enjoyed all the local recommendations but felt the experience was not worth the high price charged. read more

Easily the cutest motel we stayed in on our road trip. Staff were very friendly, and the grounds are beautiful. The light switches were a little hard to find on walking in but the beds were decently comfy and the room was a bit dated but well kept. Do note that breakfast is only for those staying in the house and not in the motel rooms, which had us a bit bummed, but thankfully there's a cute cafe nearby with great food and reasonable prices. read more

We had the best dinner!! All 4 of us ordered something different and all we could say is yum and ooooooo . So good. The food is consistantly great the staff is so friendly . I LOVE going to the Prospect Historic Hotel! The owners and staff care about all your needs and are so helpful in giving you all the info on places to visit and see. The Thanksgiving dinner is fantastic, there are 3 settings and make your reservations early. The food is awesome in both presentation and taste. The food and desserts are all prepared by the owners and is fantastic! They treat their staff as good as their guests making it a smooth running and very clean hotel. At Christmas there is a Victorian high tea and craft fair, serving special treats and local wines. In the summer there is a music festival. This is a destination not to be missed and its walking distance to beautiful waterfalls. Zip lining is nearby and of course beautiful Crater Lake! This is a winner! read more

5 OUT OF 5 FOR SURE! This is where my husband and I met and where we got married. People said things like, "This was the best wedding I've ever been to!" We give the hotel SO MUCH credit for that. The venue is gorgeously green and well-maintained! It has so many cool paths and areas to explore! Our guests took the staff's suggestion to hike to the waterfall and NO ONE was disappointed. It is breathtaking! The owners, Fred and Karen, have the best customer service I have ever experienced. They treat their staff and guests like family. We even chose the dinner house to have our rehearsal dinner because they have such amazing food! It was definitely the BEST weekend imaginable. You need to come experience the charm of this hidden gem yourself! read more
