I got here early dead tired from 5 hours on the road. No problem. I was greeted at the door by the owner (just a coincidence) and the lobby staff were competent and helpful. I'm in the pet wing with my dachshund Max who loves the dog bed and treats. This is the one room of 12 without a dog welcoming plaque and the decor focuses on prospectors and minors. The bed is the softest and most well appointed I've ever seen. Yes, the Casino and bar reek of tobacco. The Basque Lunch - lamb tbone, salad and soup was enough for 3 and delicious. This hotel is superior to the La Quinta where I stayed last night in Twin Falls Idaho. I would stay here again and again and make sure I have at least one meal per day in the restaurant. We were in Ely for an off-road racing event and had the pleasure of staying at the Prospector for an evening. The rooms were arranged by one of the event coordinators. When we got to the hotel, they pulled out a stack of envelopes (appeared to be in alphabetical order) and pulled out one with our names on it. In the envelope were two room keys, a coupon for the Cozy Cup coffee shop, two free cocktails, and a free gift from the gift shop (all of which were in the hotel). In addition, there was a map of the hotel indicating our room and the WiFi password, as well as a nice note from the hotel. The lady at the registration desk was so very friendly and helpful. When we got to our room, there was a nice typed "welcome note" with four lollipops and two sets of ear plugs--just in case we needed a peaceful night's sleep. I can NOT imagine anyone needing ear plugs because as it turned out, we did not hear a thing and had a very restful night's sleep. In addition, there was a bottle of red and white wine we could purchase for $25 per bottle along with two wine glasses. There was also a complimentary bottle of water. The room was so clean as was the entire hotel and casino. The décor throughout the establishment was stunning and very, very well done. We had a nice note on the nightstand from housekeeping telling us to enjoy our stay (with NO envelope for a tip). There was also a cute rubber duck sitting on top of the tub matt and towels. The sheets and bedding were so soft, as well as the towels, it was hard to believe we were staying in a hotel! Everything was so incredibly nice that I wish we could have stayed longer. I have no idea what the room cost since the racing association paid for our stay BUT I would NOT hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend anyone to give this a try. Margaritas restaurant was also a very pleasant experience. Our server, Layla, was as sweet as could be and the food was delicious. read more

DON'T stay here for any extended stay! The management that I encountered was extraordinarily unequipped to handle her job. Her name is Elizabeth, short young woman, with dark hair. This woman actually rolled her eyes at me, shortly following informing me that I was being charged a $200 fee for room cleaning. Here are the details: I was stranded here for 11 days following the blown transmission I suffered traveling from California to Colorado. I had two cats with me. About 3 days into my stay, I asked one of the housekeeping staff (with respect enough to tell her she didn't need to answer) if they were paid by-the-room. She informed me that they were paid hourly. I decided that I could keep my room clean enough on my own (taking out my own garbage, etc.) and declined housekeeping services for most of the time I spent there. The head housekeeper seemed elated to inform my assigned cleaning staffer that I wouldn't need any services during my stay, unless informed. Anyone who's studied business knows that a daily housekeeping fee is built into the room charge. I didn't utilize housekeeping for more than a week. The result? Just wait... My car was prepared to be released to me, so I checked out. (BTW, my ex-boyfriend had been traveling with me and used HIS card to cover the hotel charges, with an agreement from me to repay him.) My car ended up NOT being ready, so I attempted to check back in to this hotel. I was informed that my ex-boyfriends card had been charged $200 for CLEANING! WTF? I was appalled to learn that the reasoning was full of lies, like, "There were yellow stains on the linens and food left all over the room." BS! I've NEVER left yellow stains on my sheets; what are they claiming, URINE? MUSTARD? The only things left in the room were the room service dishes from the night before and a bag of chips. Additionally, I left 3 beers that I found unpalatable by the microwave. One was holding the door to the safe closed, which had impeded our access to the fridge. Besides this, knowing that my assigned housekeeper had not vacuumed, etc, I left her $15 for her troubles. I'll bet that I would have not learned of these charges had I not tried to immediately check in again, leaving me to repay my ex-boyfriend an additional $200.This establishment RIPPED ME OFF! Had I accepted room cleaning the night before, would I have been spared the additional charges? Who knows? As for Elizabeth, the woman that I encountered while trying to check in again, she is the worst manager I have ever encountered. Rather than try to be professional, she chose to seriously ESCALATE the situation. When I tried to explain that I was trying to do housekeeping a favor, this woman rolled her eyes at me. After that, she continued to enable an ugly scene, her physically trying to escort my cart of belongings, including my two cats, out the door, to avoid the scene that SHE created! My only ride, who happened to be the wife of the mechanic working on my car, came to my defense, knowing that I needed a ride to another hotel. After this encounter, she also promised to NEVER send another stranded traveler to this hotel ever again. This "manager" then provided me with LIES about the charges and was a terrible example of proper business management technique. Although my stay was otherwise acceptable, I will NEVER forget the treatment I received from Manager Elizabeth. I might still file with the Better Business Bureau. Don't stay here, there are better options. read more

We have been in Ely many times over the years and I can't believe we haven't stayed here before! Excellent room, amazing service and comfortable atmosphere! The Hotel is listed as "pet friendly" but it is much more than that, it's a pet retreat. The pet designated room has a pet bed, treats and decorations, they are extremely clean and there isn't a pet odor or carpet to worry about. They have everything a traveling family with pets could ask for and much much more. The employees are very welcoming, the casino is comfortable and clean and room service is reasonably priced and super fast. Thank you Prospector, we really needed a great place like this to stay! read more

This place completely blew my low expectations out of the water!!! I was expecting a no-frills motel, but the room was big, with a large comfortable bed, mini fridge, microwave, free bottled water, lollipops on the bed, a rubber ducky in the shower with Bath and Body Works toiletries, and other thoughtful amenities such as free popcorn in the lobby, voucher for a free well cocktail at their bar, and free gift in the gift shop. There's a Mexican restaurant and small casino (mostly slot machines) rounding out the rest of the facilities. Very unexpectedly comfortable stay and would strongly recommend. Unfortunately I think the hotel may become a Holiday Inn or something mainstream like next next year. So get over there when you can, it's close to Great Basin National Park! read more

Our car broke down on our way through Ely so we ended up having to stay the night. I'm so glad we found this hotel. The front desk lady was very friendly and gave us some tickets for free drinks in the lounge as well as one for the gift shop, the rooms were very clean and I really enjoyed the decor in our pet friendly room. The whole hotel is super cute with lots of historic paintings. They have a nice pool area with a hot tub as well, unfortunately we didn't bring our swim suits but next time for sure! The casino is small but it has some fun games I hadn't seen elsewhere. The restaurant was great too, our waitress was fun, the margaritas and food were absolutely delicious! Overall great guest experience, if we are ever in Ely again we we'll definitely be staying here again! read more

This hotel sucks. I'm literally sitting in bed right now in what's supposed to be a smoke free room and it wreaks of cigarettes. Room 139. I've also had the pleasure of listening to what seems like 4 people above me walk around for the last 2 hours. They've hit the head at least 5 times. I counted I think 3 shits and a couple number ones. I should have looked more closely at the welcome sheet that has two sets of ear plugs "provided". This place is horrible. If you have a pickup you're better off sleeping in the back of it even when it's 28 degrees out. read more

Great little Casino and Hotel (I am from Las Vegas, NV). My wife and I went on several steam train rides at "The Nevada Northern Railway Museum" in Ely NV. The Casino/Hotel were relatively new and very clean. The best pictures of the Prospector were on the Expedia site. Excellent restaurant, pool, rooms, and Casino. Good rates. Stayed here after driving about 400 miles. The staff was very friendly and super welcoming. Our room was very clean, it was a pet friendly room, I think they had a lot of dog owners that stay here. The Mexican restaurant in the hotel was good, great service and the food was reasonably priced. I would recommend for staying here a night, it was fun and of course you need to check out the casino, I didn't win but I will still recommend a stay here. read more

Dog treats laid out upon a dog wag bag, Lilly pops neatly placed on bed. Towels folded as if you were on a cruise ship. And the shower!!!! Glorious water pressure and shower supplies. This is a nice place with good Mexican food restaurant that is a bit expensive. The drawback is it has no elevator even though it has a 2nd story. They get around ADA (disability rules) by having all the first floor rooms be handicap rooms with one king sized bed. My son and I had not understood the no elevator part of things as I am in wheelchair. They were very nice about switching the rooms for us and bringing in a fold out bed but we wouldn't have booked there if we'd known read more

For what it is, this is a 5 star hotel! Staff is very nice, rooms are clean and very well stocked (fridge, microwave, wine (for $25), candy, ear plugs, etc...), and the restaurant has great hours if you're traveling through and unexpectedly good food! If you find yourself in Ely, this is DEFINITELY the place to stay!! Not to mention they have a very reasonable pet policy and treat your furry family member like a real hotel guest (and your pet can go anywhere in the hotel/casino with you aside from the restaurant and pool). This is an excellent dog-friendly hotel! They have a "man's best friend" wing decorated very appropriately, with dog pillows, poopy bags, dog bed and dog biscuits in each room. I can usually smell a dog room, but this place doesn't smell doggy at all! The floors are tile - so that's a plus! Front desk ladies were very friendly & helpful. The Mexican restaurant is outstanding! We've tried a variety of dishes in the last 4 times we've been here, and have never been disappointed. I've spent a night there once and it was just amazing. I love the clean rooms super comfortable beds and the Bath and Body Works soaps they give you. It is like a little spa get away for sure. Don't stay at this hotel if traveling with a group. You can't cancel reservations after making them through a "third party" (booking.com) what a horrific run-around. Then, couldn't change payment to my credit card when travel companion made reservations for me and others in the group, again, because reservations were made through booking.com. Let me preface this review by saying I spend waaaaay too much time in Ely for a Vegas girl. But my boyfriend lives in Elko and it is the half way point for us. The first time (yes, we've stayed here multiple times) we stayed here it was a last minute trip and we didn't make a reservation. We pulled up on a Friday afternoon and were able to get a room with a king sized bed for two nights at a great price. There was a sign behind the check-in counter that said "Ask about our themed rooms" so we did. We ended up in the Cowboy room. From our calculations they have four themed rooms; the Cowboy Room, the Mining Room, the Risque Room and the Asian Room. If you are a couple, DEFINITELY get a themed room. They are hilarious and a lot of fun. As far as the hotel goes, it is your typical super small town hotel. They are very clean and even though there are smoking rooms there it does not smell bad at all. There are probably only about 25-30 rooms in the whole place but it is easy to get a room last minute. The staff at the front desk is very friendly and able to answer any questions you have about Ely. The one down side is they only have about 2-3 housekeepers who need to have the rooms cleaned ASAP so late checkout isn't a possibility pretty much ever. The diner inside the casino is great too! The food is very good at a great price. Again, very friendly staff. And great for people watching. Same with the bar in the casino. read more

I have had breakfast with my family here many times but have never written a review. This hotel is really clean and the decor is aweome if you love really expensive motorcycles. I wish I would have taken some pictures when I was there. The rooms are nice and clean and the pool is clean as well. The restuarant that we ate in was fast and friendly. The server was a little disheveled but she was sweet and corrected the mistakes that were made in our breakfast. My breakfast mates (mom, dad and kids) all had a great experience too and enjoyed their meals as well. Everything was hot and came out in a timely manner. I did have to send mine back since I asked for no onions and it came out with onions but it was fixed pretty quickly. read more

I booked online and was surprised when I checked in to receive a coupon for two free Margaritas! Also a $3.00 gambling coupon. The room had little touches that I appreciated such as quality products from Tommy Bahama. Nice soap. Bed was very cozy, and the bathroom even included a expanding mirror for close ups or behind your head views. I ordered a omelet for dinner that was fantastic. I appreciated that they have breakfast options in the evening. I ate in the bar so I could order my free drinks. It was done in red lights. Odd. The waitress bar tender was incredibly slow which was surprising as I was the only customer. There was a small casino. I stayed here as they would allow me to bring my cat. I will stay here every time i pass through Ely. The town was on my way from Las Vegas to Boise and was the only town on that trip that was interesting. This could be the best place in Ely, but isn't. First, most casinos have figured out a venting system so you don't inhale a half pack just checking in. These Nevadans like their cigs. Next, the bar. The bar. Upon checking in you are given a coupon for a margarita. Horrid sweet stuff with almost no alcohol. Free isn't cheap enough. Now the martini. Had a Tito's poured one night and it was great. Frozen glass and shaken with authority. A thing of beauty. $5! Had another poured the next night, different bartender. The vodka was poured so lightly, it did not reach the olive hanging on the lip of the glass. Was told the owner was on the premises, so they pour lightly. Between the ridiculous margarita sludge and the tiny martini pours, the owner doesn't know how to run a bar. The rooms were okay, not too much residual tobacco smell. read more

I am starving and everyone laughs at me when I ask "where is the best place to eat in town" I ended up here. Elton John is playing through the overhead speakers, it smells like smoke and French fries. I'm not daring enough to order a steak.. So I get the spaghetti and meatballs. $10 They have a couple of wines that are drinkable. The service is doing as well as they can.. They are a friendly but flustered bunch. The spaghetti plate is huge... Looking around, I see at least three couples splitting plates. Smart. The spaghetti is not he worst I've ever had. Its very saucy. Garlic bread is exactly what you are hoping for. They tried to throw in some peppers and other fresh veg, but the flavors were a bit discordant. If I was in Chicago, I'd be upset.. but this is Ely! and you can park your camper for $15 .. with electric. Whatever. Eat here. It 'll make a turd. read more

If you are passing through Ely this is a good place to stay. Nice clean large rooms with everything you need, even tooth brush and paste. Huge TV and very comfortable king size bed. The rooms have coffee pot, microwave frig and a safe. It's a good deal for about $80. There's a Mexican restaurant open from 5:30-11 PM I had dinner and breakfast both meals were good and reasonably priced. There's a full bar and casino, swimming pool and a business room with computer and printers. There's a display of vintage motorcycles in the lobby and they play some good classic rock on the house speakers. Will be staying here again. read more

Well.... I ordered the whisky salmon dish. Sounded great. But the fish was "off". I informed the waitress who quickly and kindly brought me something else. I had what my husband had, the fish tacos. Very good. We left happy. But then at 3:00 AM. It hit me like a Mack Truck! All the wonderful things that come with food poisoning. It was awful!!! Still trying to recover. At check out my husband informed the front desk. They were mortified! However the kitchen/restaurant could care less. Wavered between a modern chain place and this property and decided to go for the Prospector! Not at all disappointed! Rooms seem to have been recently modernized and renovated, super cute lobby with lovingly put together displays of varied taxidermy, artifacts and collectibles. The staff at front desk, maintenance and cleaning crew were all very polite and engaged. Loved the indoor pool, and I think a lot of families are missing out- I saw many kids in the hotel, but mine were only ones interested in taking advantage of the amenities. As we came up from Vegas to see a bit of snow, kids also had a great time frolicking around the outside, I liked being able to keep watch from my second floor window. They are a pet friendly property and have a whole wing of rooms for those traveling with their buddies. The corridor where pet friendly rooms are located is decorated with amazing photos of animals and each door has a clever plaque with a cute saying about a pet. I loved the care and charm in these little details, as well as the fact that they were all decked out for Christmas. The bed was comfortable and I especially appreciated many plump pillows provided, it's always a bother asking for more. There is a bar, small casino and Mexican restaurant on property. Restaurant has convenient long hours, from 5:30am, I believe, till quite late at night. I would definitely recommend this property of you want something with charm, warmth and character. read more

Great place to stay if you're passing through or staying in Ely for a few days. Certainly one of the better hotels in town and definitely the most dog and cat friendly with an entire wing devoted to your furry friends. They even get their own "pillow" treats! The pet rooms are well cleaned and deoderized so there is no pet smell. The lobby is friendly and inviting and the casino, while smokey, is well ventilated and not nearly as bad as some places I've been. The on site restaurant has excellent food and the service is friendly and attentive. I recommend trying the basque dinner, it's very good! read more

When I checked in I was charged a higher rate than what I was told when I booked the room. Not a good start. The room was much better than we expected. The roll away that we had requested was not in the room as promised. This was ok as we had somewhere to go. When we returned late that night it still wasn't in the room. After called in the front desk they had it up in 10 minutes. Beds were very comfortable. The next day after check out we discovered that one of our children had left their Ipad in the room. Being several hours away going back was not an option. I called the hotel and they had the Ipad and allowed a friend who was still in Ely to pick it up for us. read more
