Margarita's Mexican Restaurant deserves better than the 3.9 score we saw when visiting on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The location is perfect, the food was great and the customer service was very good and friendly. This was our second night staying at the Prospector Hotel. We ate dinner at Margarita's on both of our stays (within the same week going to and coming back from Idaho) with breakfast this morning on our second stay. The staff were quite friendly and all were on their game and attentive. The food was very good and abundant. I had the Mexican Rib-eye steak last night and it was cooked a perfect medium rare. Breakfast this morning was Machaca and Eggs. Lots of it perfectly cooked and great to taste. Oh, and their salsa is outstanding! We'll be back if we ever head this way again. Margarita's was outstanding and so was the Prospector Hotel and Gambling Hall. They're both a gem in north-central Nevada! read more

I ordered a chicken quesadilla to go. It's supposed to come with tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole but it came with none of those. I did see some chopped carrots in there, though. If you order to-go, check your order before you leave to make sure it's complete. Also, they charge an extra fee for a to-go order and an extra fee if you use a credit card. We stay in Ely twice a year on our way through to see family. Staying at the Prospector Hotel for the first time and have our dogs with us so thought it would be convenient to pick up food from the on-site restaurant. Ugh - never again. First off, the poor kid at the host desk was visible flustered. Despite only a few customers in the restaurant. He was nice, but I felt like an inconvenience. Second, there is a $1.75 charge to go. I saw it when I paid the bill and thought, okay there's paper plates and to go boxes. I get it. But in reality, there should be a discount because you don't get chips and salsa with to-go orders. Third, our dishes were packaged to go by squishing them between plates. Gross, plus we list done of our food because it stuck to the top plate. Fourth, the quality of food is severely lacking. The nacho chips are cheap, low quality tortillas that just aren't worth the calories. The top of the nachos initially apparent have a decent amount of topping, but the reality is that once the top chips were consumed, all that was left were the crumby naked chips and they weren't even crispy. The steak fajitas were "ok". But nothing great and the steak pieces were too large and difficult to chew. Next time we are in Ely, we'll try a different place. read more

Just passing through and who would have thought I'd find some of the best Mexican food I've had. I got the chili verde and my wife the enchiladas. Man you talk about taste! Both dinners were phenomenal, I only wish this place was closer to home. I highly recommend stopping here for a meal you won,t be disappointed in, if you're driving through Ely. read more

Stopped in as I was staying at a nearby hotel for the night while in town for work. The place seemed pretty busy so I assumed the food had to be pretty good. I assumed wrong. I had the poblano enchiladas and the pork was good but there wasn't enough sauce on top so they were a little dry. The beans and rice were flat out gross. Not an ounce of flavor. Even a healthy dash of salt didn't help. The only saving grace was the service (well, and the margarita). The servers were all very nice and attentive. read more

Pizza was good. Husband said that he was extremely happy with his. He doesn't eat pizza but he did today. The guy who brought the pizzas out was very friendly and nice. We were the only ones eating in the restaurant but that did not bother me at all. The music playing was good. Watching all the staff getting along was very refreshing. read more

The food was hot and fresh, and we were seated right away with no wait. I ordered the enchilada and chile relleno combo, and the portion was huge. The restaurant was clean and decorated in a classic old Spanish style, which gave it a nice atmosphere. Five us us ate here for four breakfasts and one dinner. There is a good selection of foods on all the menu's and the servers were all on top of it. They were a bit blunt and to the point but overall good. Even on a busy Tuesday night the food came out right away and hot. Only complaint I have is one morning I had something very had on my eggs. Our waitress Tammy took it back to the cooks to let them know. My hope is I didn't damage a tooth. The atmosphere is Hispanic and noisy with seating both inside and out. Bus people are as on it as the waitress and very helpful. The night we had dinner here I told the waitress it was my friends birthday and after dinner they came out with a big blue sombraro for him to put on, a happy birthday song and fried ice-cream to eat. Sometimes, service is everything. In this case, it was almost nothing. We walked in at dinner time expecting there might be a wait because there aren't a ton of options in Ely and this is located in a hotel/casino. We were informed we could sit outside right away, and it being a nice day we said sure! Big mistake. We apparently were forgotten out there. 20 minutes after arriving, despite trying to flag down a staff member without luck, we still hadn't even ordered drinks. When a bus boy came out to give another newly arrived table salsa and chips they were super kind and pointed at us and he brought them to us instead finally. Still no waiter. 10 whole minutes later we finally had a waiter and gave our orders including drinks. He was friendly and had a great smile- but by then we were feeling a little hangry and neglected. When the food finally did come out we of course had no utensils or napkins.... More waiting. The food itself was tasty enough in a fairly generic Mexican way- you know what I mean, those dishes you order anywhere in the US and they taste exactly the same. My chile relleno was disappointing because the menu showed a little chile pepper symbol that the key said meant "spicy", but there wasn't even a hint of heat to it. My pork tamale, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious!!! It was really the big stand out dish here for us. Another close second was the salsa- specifically the "hot" option, which wasn't super hot but very flavorful and just enough heat to give it a kick. Probably one of the top Mexican food restaurants in All of Nevada. Even in Las Vegas, I have not tasted as good of Mexican food as Margarita's serves up in Ely. My gauge for Mexican food is how is the salsa the salsa looks like it is roasted salsa with an excellent taste. In all my travels, I look forward to stopping here for an amazing meal. The service is prompt and cares about delivering a great product. They have some of the best wall art and dolls representing Guadalajara region. They told me it is also for sale. read more

This restaurant will satisfy anyone's craving for copious amounts of food. I ordered the pork burrito and it was enough food for most people. If you were to order the margarita burrito, you had better be hungry as it is pretty darn humungous. You will find this restaurant hiding in the Prospector Hotel and Casino. The hotel contains some interesting memorabilia. Service was awesome. We arrived on a Friday night at 5:30 and we had to wait for a few minutes for a table to open up. The place remained super busy the whole time we were there. However, our food and drinks arrived quickly. The prices were very reasonable. Parking is easy with a large parking lot. Great service! The waitress didn't even need to write our order down. Quick service. Looked like they had teenage servers who kept our chips and salsa filled and cleared plates as we finished. But the food is what we loved. Chili rellenos are the best. Everything comes hot to your table and is so delicious every time. This is our 4th visit. Margaritas made our dinner complete! The salsa is in the top salsas that I've had! So tasty. I'm referring to the chunkier one as you get two with the chips that they give you once you get a seat. Service was super fast and friendly. It did take a while to get seated as they were super busy (on a Thursday evening at about 5:45). My ground beef burrito was way more than I could eat. Tasty. Guacamole had a little different taste compared to what I make from a lot of avocados. So not my favorite but it was ok. The restaurant itself is inside the Prospector Casino. Despite the raving reviews from the Internet and workers at the neighboring hotel, I didn't find Margarita's impressive. The food and drink menus are huge! My husband and I began our meal with House Margarita's because it wouldn't be a complete meal without the restaurant's namesake. They were pretty good, not too much tequila and wonderful taste. We liked them so much we each ordered a second round. We were also given chips and salsa for free. For grub, I ordered 1 Chile Relleno & 1 Tamale (chicken) and my husband got 1 Taco & 2 Enchiladas. Both of our plates came with generous helpings of Mexican rice and refried beans. Although it all tasted fine, it was nowhere near as spectacular as we were told. I've eaten at Mexican restaurants that are near identical to this one. Everything on the plates tasted the same. The meals seem pre-assembled, then tossed in an oven to reheat. There's nothing wrong with that, I enjoy these meals every now and then. I just expected so much more. The service was very friendly. We were immediately seated and everyone who checked in us was polite. I was charged double for my plate, which I didn't realize until after returning to the hotel room however the manager was very quick to give me a refund once I contacted them. read more

I stopped here on July 30th. This is located in a hotel/casino, so if you have allergies casino full of cigarette smoke and when sure to leave on your clothes. Ordered a combination plate, enchilada, and burrito, which came with rice and beans. The rice was undercooked, no flavor, the carne asada for the enchilada, and the burrito was pre-cooked, probably earlier in the day, and had no flavor and dried out no moisture. Margarita's is in the Prospector Hotel and Gambling Hall but don't let that fool you, they put out some amazing food!! They came very highly recommended by Steve at the Ely KOA so we headed straight there. Service was a bit slow, super friendly but unfortunately quite slow. The hostess greeted us with a smile and we opted to sit on the patio. There is nothing on the tables, so it looks "abandoned"! Our server was very nice and friendly but wasn't easy to find throughout our dining. We ended up waiting quite awhile for some silverware to enjoy the salads we received! Perhaps the hostess could bring the silverware with her to the tables with the menus! The folks that deliver the food are super rushed and just toss and run so we weren't able to ask them quick enough! The food though, the food is amazing!! My husband had the ribeye and peppers and said it was super tender, cooked perfectly to order and the peppers were nice and spicy. Even with the seeds left in the jalapenos he said they were perfect! My Camerones Poblanos was divine! The sauce should be on everything on the menu and then come on the side as well!! Ordered Chicken Enchilada and Chili Verde and an order of Guacamole to go with their delightfully thin fresh chips. The Enchilada was good. My Chili Verde was watery vs a thick smothering sauce. The pork was cut into little tiny cubes vs bite sized pieces. The guac was mixed with something (sour cream?) but good (vs 100% smashed Avocado with some pico). Service was a little industrial (not personal - no conversation - "ready to order") but ok. Orderd 2 house margaritas - they were good but was thrilled they were served in giant glasses (at least 2-3x an average glass. What a plesent surprise). Like to mention the young dark haired waitress working the morning shift at Margarita's. 100% isn't looking for a single customer at a table to serve, but hoping a larger group or couple will tip more.. pathetic gambling! Spoke to the manager who identified himself as O_____. Very polite, very apologetic.. offering me another shot and inviting me back. Thanked him very much but don't think I'll forget the young lady's intentional way she avoided the single customer and instead asking everyone around me if everything was ok.. don't think it is necessary to have to bring my wife, grown up adult sons with their wives and my grandkids to try and shoot for fair service. This was a waste of 15-20 mins while i was out in ELY with my sons hunting. Not again, so if u are alone and want a meal at Margaritas in Ely.. We came for breakfast and were seated promptly. Everyone was very friendly and food came quickly. The surroundings were a bit garish but... I called ahead to see if they allow service animals on their patio and they said no. I found their policy to be odd when you consider the hotel the restaurant is in has a pet friendly policy. I'm not sure why they don't allow service songs to sit at the "outdoor seating" portion of the patio. The food is good, just disappointed I had to leave my service dog at the hotel. read more
