We have really enjoyed staying here multiple times (10?) over the past 13 months, stayed once at LA Quinta (both are pet friendly), but the concentration on Pet Friendly here is significantly better. A bed for the dogs, dog treats on their bed, poop bags, treats and a squeaky duck. We have taken advantage of their rewards where you stay 5 nights and get 6th free. I used my free room and the next stay paid, but I was chatting with the check in person and forgot to ask for a new card. So I asked for one this time with both this stay and the one 2 weeks ago. She said she would do this stay but they don't post date stays. She gave me the card with only this stay, so I said, "Just keep it if you can't check that I was here two weeks ago, I'll just start using LA Quinta again. She said that's fine and checked us in. I saw we were not in our usual room, #130 everytime we've been here ( except once) #133 this time. I asked is 130 already taken and she said, oh yes, your usual room is already assigned. About 40 minutes later we were pushing our luggage cart to our room. There was a couple from Canada in the hallway junction with another cart and they asked if we could tell them which way to #130, they had just checked into a non pet friendly room and had had to move. They were reassigned to #130. Hmm, I don't like being lied to, or the little "I'll get even with you for telling me you were upset)". So I will return to LQ. They have a rewards program too and it credits to your account automatically. LQ also doesn't have a per pet charge. ATTITUDE counts! read more

We decided a trip to Great Basin National Park was due, and set about looking for a pet friendly hotel in Ely! We found the Prospector Hotel and Gambling Hall - not only do they have a dedicated wing to the hotel for pets, but they let us bring our little guy into the Casino and Lounge (where we ate dinner at their in-house Mexican-restaurant Margaritas). We both agreed that we loved the place- and "we welcome everyone" was posted in the lobby- nice! Needless to say, should we make our way to Ely again? We're staying here again. This was our home base for a weekend getaway to Ely, and I was very impressed. Western themed (although lots of Marilyn Monroe photos?) with a casino and an all-hours Mexican restaurant, our room was spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, and well-appointed. Upon check-in, we were given 2 complimentary drink tickets and a coupon for a free handmade gift from their Native American themed gift shop. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and efficient, especially the front desk staff. Shout out to whomever selects the in-room wine that is available for purchase, I discovered a Wolfgang Puck white wine that is now a favorite. If I am ever in Ely again, this will definitely be my pick for lodging. Good thing they enrolled me in their "stay 4 nights, get the 5th free" program! :) read more

Nice and friendly place. Our room was neat, clean and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the large shower head. We ate dinner and breakfast in their restaurant Margaritas which was delicious. The food was served by their friendly wait staff and was fast & hot. The only drawback for me was the cigarette smoke in the casino and I'm super sensitive but that's me. Would I stay here again - Absolutely! They are also pet friendly with a whole set of rooms for those traveling with their fur babies. They were also reasonably price. Highly recommended. read more

We had an unexpected funeral to attend over spring break and because it was spring break, we couldn't find anyone to dog sit. we loaded 3 dogs and 2 kids in the car for a trip from boise to las vegas and back. we decided to stay at the Prosepector Hotel because they accommodate dogs. Also because my husband had stayed there once before and he was always telling me how great it was. He was right. We were all in a very emotional state, we had the stress of a road trip and a lost loved one, and had to bring our dogs...but being able to stay here to catch some zzzz's and give the dogs a break was awesome. They have dog beds, treats laid out, doggy doo bags, nice rooms. We ended up getting 2 rooms (one for the kids to share and one for us) and we were right across the hall from one another. The rooms were clean, didn't smell, nice sized, had awesome TV's (tho we didn't have time to watch TV). We pulled into town at 11:30p and slept until 930am, ordered room service (which was great also, btw) and took off. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Had zero issues and will be staying here again on one of our treks! Thank you!!! read more

We couldn't be more pleased!! It is the first time we took our dogs and went to a pet friendly hotel. I was hesitant. So hesitant. I just always had bad ideas about pet friendly hotels. The room is darling and has tile floors with a couple floor runners. It smells good, looks good and feels good. It is super clean. There are dog treats, a dog bed and a squeaky toy. The photos on the wall are of dogs and cats. The rest of the room amenities are nice. The bed is great, the pillows are great. The linens are very nice. The towels are regular. The toiletries are Bed Bath and Beyond brand and smell great. The hallway has beautiful cute huge photos of animals. The hot tub and pool area is clean and nice. There is a shower head there to rinse off. We had room service for breakfast and the food was hot and good! I needed more cream and he brought it right back quickly. We also had lunch in the restaurant and the nachos with shredded beef were tasty. The shredded beef is like someone made a wonderful roast. Parking is well lit and safe. There is a very nice lawn area with dog supplies. The roads are quiet. The soda machine is only $1. The staff was very nice during check in. I will stay here every time I come to Ely Nevada!! read more

I can't recommend this place enough. It's no frills, it's in Ely, it's not the Ritz by any means but man is it charming and they give you everything you need. The decor can captivate your for hours, staff couldn't be more friendly (it was pretty clear that everyone loves working here) and the restaurant was good. I think we fed 3 people for $40. read more

Loaded with character. Choosen for the indoor pool, which was very nice with unusual decor. The pool was a little chilly but the hot tub was great. Checkin staff were friendly and helpful. They give you free drink coupons for the lounge bar. The room was nice. Mining decor hanging on the walls and some LED lighting above the king size bed. The room was clean and well stocked with Barh and Body Works toiletries and Wolfgang Puck coffee. There is cowboy decor in the hotel hallways gives it a museum gallay feel. There is a lot to look at in this casino and hotel. Everywhere you look there is something to see. The lounge bar is standard Casino lounge bar material. Friendly staff and quick drinks. If I pass through this way again, this is where I will stay. read more

Wife and I just moved1000 miles to a new State. We needed a hotel that was pet friendly and this place hit the nail on the head. It's a hotel casino but they love fur babies. Rooms were nice, with tile floors (for obvious reasons) and it's super quiet. Staff is super friendly and helpful with answers to questions. Pets allowed just about everywhere but in the restaurant, but we ate in the bar and our dog was welcome there. Casino is nice, rooms are nice, restaurant was good and it's convenient to the freeway. I wold strongly recommend this place as a pet friendly or just regular stop to rest, gamble and eat. Glad we found you! read more

Bed is excellent. TV is large with lots of channels. Water pressure is good. Hotel is fine for one night. The bad is is the cigarette smoke in the casino is so bad, you need a shower after checking in. My mask smelled gross. It was difficult to breath with a mask on with the air full of smoke. Purchased a nice bottle of wine for $25, available on room. We could not bring ourselves to eat at the restaurant or use the free drink coupons due to cigarette smoke. read more

We weren't expecting much when we stopped overnight in Ely, but decided to take a chance on the Prospector since it was significantly cheaper than the only other highly rated hotel in town. We were pleasantly surprised! When you first walk in they have a lot of interesting decor in the lobby and it smells really strongly of smoke. As someone with asthma, this immediately made me nervous. After a speedy check in, we went to our room and we're happy to find out that although the lobby and hallways smelled of smoke, the room itself did not. And it was a very nice room! Spacious with a lot or very modern touches to the tables, lamps, beds, and television. The room was super clean, enough so that I had no qualms about immediately flopping into bed when we got in. Had breakfast in the restaurant attached to the casino. It was also great! I got the deuces wild with margarita potatoes - try them! They're hash browns with peppers, chiles, onions, and cheese, and they are amazing. Would definitely stay here again if we ever come through Ely Nevada in the future. read more

This review is loooooooong overdue. I have a serious history with the Prospector Hotel & Casino, which was formerly a Holiday Inn way back in the day. This hotel(by either name and under any ownership) has always served my needs in Ely, NV. I tried some of the other hotels around town and this is definitely the best in terms of a decent stay with friendly folks and small town hospitality. Is it perfect? No way. The property is older and has been renovated over the years but as always, the casino will still smell like stale cigarettes and the metal of slot machines until the end of time. This is Nevada, y'all, and Ely is a true Nevada small town and this hotel definitely represents the Western quirk that is Northern NV. Like I mentioned, the property has been renovated and the rooms are quite comfortable. After the hotel became the Prospector, they added theme rooms and a VIP room(which I stayed in once after I filled up my "punch card"). Overall, the rooms have always been about as clean as a hotel room and bathroom can be. This isn`t the Ritz, so please do not come expecting that. What you can expect is an adventure in rural America hotel stays. Ask about the punch card if you're a frequent visitor. Ask about discounts. Ask for a room upstairs if you can(I always felt like my sleep was more disturbed on the bottom floor with people constantly walking by my rooms). I have no reason to visit Ely anymore, but I`ll always fondly remember my stays. read more

We stayed here on our way back to Boise. We have 3 dogs which makes it difficult to find places to stay. These guys were so nice and even had what felt like a "dog wing". So all the guests around us had dogs and we didn't need to worry about bothering people because they had their own pups. The room had a dog bed, bowl and treats. It was very clean too! We ordered dinner from Margaritas which is inside the hotel. We both had bacon burgers and they were impressive!! Probably one of the best hamburgers we've had. We will be back for sure! read more

We loved our stay in cool, quiet Ely...mainly due to the Prospector Hotel & Casino! The hotel has an entire wing for people traveling with their pets. And they go a couple of extra miles to show you the pets are REALLY welcome. There is a lovely courtyard out back, instead of just concrete, to walk your dog. The room floors are tile, easy to clean n case of "accidents". There is a cushy dog bed in the room, big enough for almost any dog. A poopy bag and dog biscuits await you on a counter. Even the artwork in this wing is pet-themed! Pets are only $10 additional! For humans, the room is clean and comfy too. The pull-out table/desk was really appreciated, for eating a meal in the room. There is even a rubber ducky to greet you, in the bathroom :-) The employees were really friendly too, and I enjoyed shopping in their gift shop once I found out that most of the handicrafts are made by local artisans. What a refreshing change from made-in-China "Indian" souvenirs! read more

This is a nice hotel. My fiancé and I stayed here for two nights over the past weekend to visit Great Basin National Park. We chose this hotel for its affordable cost compared to other hotels in the area. We only paid $79 per night here. In addition, the location was ideal for us because it's a little over an hour drive to Great Basin NP. The grounds of the hotel and casino are nice and well-maintained. I definitely have to say that this place has a lot of character with mining decor and statues throughout the hotel and casino. They also have a bar and Mexican restaurant but we never had a chance to try the restaurant. In addition, they have a large parking lot and parking is free. We booked a room with a king bed, which was spacious and tidy. The only thing that initially grossed me out was on our first night when we checked into our room and found a used water bottle on the bathroom counter. It wasn't worth docking a star over for that. Our room came with a microwave, mini fridge, safe, coffee maker, flat screen tv, work desk, and a dining table with two chairs. The wifi is complementary and we had no problems connecting to their network. A huge plus about the room was that the bed was super soft and comfy. One issue though that I have to comment on during our entire stay is that the walls are really thin. Since we were on the first floor, we heard our neighbors above walking around and closing doors. We also heard a bunch of outside noise coming from the hallway as other guests were walking by and talking right by our door. What really stood out the most was the customer service. The staff were genuinely friendly and courteous. They always welcomed us the second we walked through the door. If we needed extra towels or any other items, they were more than happy to assist us. The nice lady at the front desk who checked us in on our first night signed us up for their rewards program and gave us two vouchers for free beer or well drink to be redeemed at their bar. Overall, we had a good stay. The next time we decide to come back to Ely again, we will be sure to book a room here. read more

Last night of a 2000 mile loop to see 2017 Eclipse. Booked this hotel because of location and price. Was amazed at this fun little hotel and Casino. The rooms look to have been recently updated to very high standard with all the amenities like microwave, frig, and safe. Big new TV and even a rubber duck for the tub. This was by far the nicest place we stayed on our trip and the lowest cost. Had breakfast in their mexican themed restaurant Margarita's and was very satisfied with both the mexican style and traditional selections. Would stay here again on a long trip or just as a destination. read more

I can NOT say enough nice things about my stay at the Prospector! I was on a solo 2 day road trip from Sun Valley Idaho to Los Angeles, and most of the places along the way are just frightening. THIS on the other hand, could not have been more charming! The location is right off the highway, it's a wonderfully idyosyncratic space with fantastic cowboy collections and decor throughout. The staff... my GAWD.. super NICE and helpful - both when I made reservations the week prior and upon arrival - as if they'd known me for decades. Handwritten thank you notes... wine in the room... large flat screen with tons of channels... SUPER CLEAN... Fluffy crisp, clean bed.... coupons for a complimentary gift in the gift shop AND one drink in the casino... my room was far away from the casino, so there was no noise from that either. They even give you a Rubber Ducky to take home!! I have stayed in Michelin-star hotels around the world and have learned to manage expectations for travel based on what is the best within the area, within the price range, and within reason. (Meaning some of the 2 and 3 star reviews I find extremely petty.) I LOVE this establishment and would stay here again over any chain hotel in the area in a HEARTBEAT! read more

We had our small dog with us in our room. Ate two meals in the restaurant on site and both were quite good. This hotel/motel seemed to be about the busiest place in town. We called them numerous times from our room and nobody would answer. My husband had to go out to the office front desk at 11 PM. Was pleasantly surprised by our stay here! We arrived early and they where able to check us in on the spot. Hotel was very well kept (they had people dusting the lobby when we arrived) the staff was polite and friendly and ready to suggest other activities as ours had been canceled. Rooms where clean and surprisingly up to date, decent size bar and the Mexican restaurant was great, good food and good service! We didn't eat anywhere else on the trip. The indoor pool and hot tub was fantastic after being outside in 19 degree weather all day. Only down shot was some guy came through and took all of our drinks (they where all in plastic) in the pool area. We have already booked for next year. Just as a side note we cruised the Ramada while up there and meh, very 70s esq and all the rooms open up directly to the casino. read more

Pros: Comfy and clean bed, friendly staff in hotel and restaurant. Cons: Way too expensive for what was offered. I could hear the floor creaking loudly in the room above mine in the middle of the night - and people were just walking, not doing anything out of the norm. Super loud plumbing from other rooms, very smoky smell even though it was a non smoking room. And this is a weird one - Severe cell phone malfunctioning while in the hotel - it was like someone or something else was operating my cell phone. On our 2 night stay we saw the playful pet photos hanging in the pet friendly area of the hotel, large bronze sculptures, motorcycle collection, cowboy memorabilia collection and festive Christmas decor. Hit the slots a bit, lost $40 quick, but that's how it is sometimes. Heated pool, exercise room, restaurant and meeting room, this small hotel and casino had it all. Rooms were very clean. It was all of the small touches that really made the place excellent-drink ticket at check in, loyalty hotel stay program, bottled water in room, newspaper available, in room coffee and gaming floor coffee, prompt room service from the restaurant, players club card, complementary popcorn, and it goes on. IMHO the best value & quality for lodging in town. Restaurant is great, bar is lively & drinks are reasonably priced. Has a jacuzzi & pool inside. Rooms are always clean & come with toiletries. Enter my husband into the Margaritas restaurant, in a wheelchair with his service dog... we have been going there for 4 months now after buying a home near by... we have always brought the dog and they always ask what service she provides and most of the servers know her now..So today my husband, service dog and i go in for lunch and the manager that we have never seen says that the dog can not stay unless she is on the ground... she is a 5lb Maltese in a cross body carrier... he does not ask my disabled Vietnam Veteran husband the service she provides! His attitude was very unprofessional and that is sad as all the other servers and mangers are very nice and the service it good..wake up people to the needs of the men and woman who fought for our country!!! read more

I stopped here for just a night on my way traveling back to California. I was really impressed with the customer service right away. The hotel and casino is tacky but in rhe best way. There are so many statues and pictures to look at. The room was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. I would have given it 5 star except that the gym was the size of a large closet and had hardly anything in it. read more

As far as the hotel itself goes it's 3 stars. There was a spot on the shower curtain and a rag was left over the shower head (previous guest or a stop hold measure for a repair?). The shower also creaked when standing in it making us wonder if a hole would appear suddenly. The beds were clean and comfortable and they offered two different pillows on the bed. One that goes flat right away and one a bit firmer that holds a bit more shape through the night. They say to return room keys or a $5 charge per key will be applied. Found it a bit odd so we made sure to walk them up instead of leaving them in the room like we do at most places. At check in they gave us two vouchers for well drinks in their lounge. There were four of us. We asked if they do a midori sour and was told yes. Asked for one and she let us know we can't use the voucher for that. We told her that was okay but we wanted one. Ordered a whiskey and coke, a gin and tonic and asked if they can do lemon drop martinis, which she said yes. Ordered a lemon drop. The lady came back and said they were out of midori, so we skipped that. Then she brought us 3 plastic glasses with the whiskey and coke, gin and tonic, and a shot of yellow liquid which, when asked, she told us was the lemon drop. I shockingly asked if that's a martini and she said no it's a shot, and asked if I had wanted a martini. Never have I ordered a lemon drop and not gotten a martini-never mind I asked if they made the lemon drop martinis before asking for a lemon drop. It wasn't what I ordered but whatever. Goes with the town and nothing being open or going right. We paid and left. The lounge is a definite 1 star location. Due to our bad luck around town with things not being open or having anything we asked for, we didn't gamble at the casino which is small. Something to do if nothing else is available (which applies to the whole town), however not a lot to see or do. The restaurant we couldn't try since the hours are listed incorrectly and they were closing when we showed up although the hours said they had another hour. Like I said the hotel is 3 stars but since it's listed with the casino - which includes the lounge - I'm only giving it 2. read more

We spent the night at Prospect for one night before heading out to Great Basin Park the next day. When we arrived, we were happy to see that they have an indoor pool and spa opened until 11pm, restaurant that serves Mexican food and some American dishes, and slots to gamble. This location has RV parking and is pet friendly which is awesome as most places aren't. The hotel is from an another era, but everything is clean and has its own charm with cowboy and Marilyn Monroe decor. The smell of cigarettes and perfume in the hallways reminded me of my grandmother and how her house used to smell and it was a little nostalgic for me as we were walking to our room. I'm sorry to say, but the beds were not comfortable for us. It could be because our bodies are accustom to our temperpedic, but we had a hard time staying asleep. Overall, everyone working there was nice and our stay was pleasant and affordable. read more

As big a surprise as Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent. Really. To be sure, we weren't expecting much when we drove into Ely after 350 miles of America's Loneliest Highway. But there it was, and from the time we walked into the front entrance, until we left the next morning, a terrific experience. Bedding was unreal, so comfortable, down pillows. And the hotel's décor was clearly undertaken by someone who dedicated a hell of a lot of time doing it. The gaming area was adequate, the sports bar great, multiple HD screens, barman as friendly as can be. Dinner was Fajita's, perfectly fine. Breakfast another excellent, hearty experience, we split it. Suggest you ask for 2nd floor, so you'll sleep like a baby from late night gaming aficionados. read more
