I "knew" my hard drive was cooked. I brought it in to Protech and he hooked it up and it appeared that it was on its way out. I knew the replacement cost and agreed but when he was working on it more he realized a couple of virus protections I don't even use were causing it. He uninstalled them and called and told me. I don't write reviews often but this shop deserves one and 5 stars. I've had this issue with my gaming pc for about a year. I took it to a different shop before coming here, and they took 3,4 days to finally get to it and test it. They told me they tested for a full day, and they can't find any issue. When I took it back, the problem was still there. Therefore, I took it here, and the owner of Protech tested and found the problem within 10 mins of testing right in front of me! He ordered and replaced the part for me. I've been gaming with no issues. He was very knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. The price was also reasonable. The parking spaces are normal size and this place is right across from Union Bank. Joey the owner is very customer service oriented and knowledgeable about his craft. I panicked when my hard drive crashed and my computer wouldn't boot up. And my backup was over several weeks old, so I was really screwed. I went to Yelp and found Protech and I'm thrilled that I went to Joey, the proprietor, to get things sorted out. He installed a new SSD hard drive AND was able to restore many of the files from my "dead" hard drive. He didn't promise miracles (in fact he said "I'm not really hopeful of getting anything back, but I'll try") but he did in fact perform them! Since other computer issues I had were more complex, I ended up being in his shop for a couple of hours - and I saw a steady stream of customers. The returning customers rarely asked for a quote - they just left their computer, took the paperwork and left. I now know why. Joey got my computer working again and did it at what i thought was an extremely reasonable price - same thing for the data recovery. He's very reasonable for the value he adds. In a couple of cases, he told people it wasn't worth repairing their computer - "I can do it, but I don't think that's a good idea in your case." Total down-to-earth honesty. I cannot recommend Protech's services highly enough. This is definitely where I will come for all future computer needs. Joey is a competent, honest service provider. Imagine that! read more

Our newish computer would not boot up and we called this shop. He recommended trying a couple of things and when the computer did not respond he said bring it in any time. 30 minutes later we were at the shop and about two minutes later he had us back up and running. Turns out the RAM memory had wiggled loose. He then answered some questions my son had about slow speeds and he recommended upgrading to 16MB RAM, when I asked if he would do that, he said he did not have the RAM on hand but we could easily order it on Amazon and then showed us which memory to buy and would work for the computer and how to install it. No Charge! We are newish to San Diego and finding a go to computer person here has really made my day.
