Close to where I live, so they're convenient. And I'm so much happier giving my money to a local shop, rather than one of the larger big box stores, or shopping on line. I had been in once before, just to pick up a new power cord for my old computer. And then, I had a larger problem with my old machine, and when I called to discuss the issue, they confirmed what I knew: that it would cost more money than I was willing to put into a very old computer. When I said I couldn't afford a new one, and would just have to take my chances, they mentioned that they had a newer computer they could refurbish for me, if I was interested. They quoted me a ridiculously low price, and said they'd get to it soon, and would call me when it was ready. I'd be able to take a look at it, with no obligation to purchase. They called me back within days. I went in the next day, and decided to buy the machine. (The price was exactly the same as I was quoted over the phone.) They transferred all of the data from my old machine at no charge, installed updated software so my old documents would be compatible with the new operating system (also, for free), and when I had a small issue the next day, I brought the machine back in, they fixed it in minutes, and answered a short list of questions I had about the new machine. They were GREAT. Very friendly, fast, honest, incredibly reasonable pricing. These guys are the best. I can't imagine I'll ever go anywhere else. read more

I've had a bunch of external hard drive failures over the past several months, and Pro Computers has helped me get ALL my data back quickly and cheaply each time! In one case, they had to send my drive to an out-of-shop technician because they couldn't do it in house. But the technician was quick and good, and recovered my data at a fraction of the cost that many big companies charge. More recently, they were able to recover data on my drives in house. Again, the service was fast, and much less expensive then other places I might have gone. It also doesn't hurt that the place is staffed by a bunch of adorable nerdy young guys who are super friendly and knowledgable about your tech needs! (gush) Love this place! read more

If I had two types of hard drives rescued here with 100% Data Recovery. I even took in an older drive that I had taken to Micro Center for data recovery, and I love Micro Center but they had no success recovering anything. But with this very same drive that I would have just thrown out... Pro Computers had ALL the data within a few hours on a first tier recovery. Impressed! So when they say your data needs to go to the next tier of recovery, do not be afraid to pay the extra $. because it is cheaper than anywhere else I have heard of in the country and they had success with my entire computer's hard drive which had 2 businesses, all my music and several Gigs of raw photos. I think they do not charge you if they cannot recover it.. but double check. I also had them install a new hard drive into my macbook pro after the other one failed. They have some in stock, but were fine with me buying it from Micro Center and bringing it to them. Also, Sometimes I go overseas for work and I had a hard drive fail in France last year. Had I known I would have shipped it from France to come back to Andersonville, they are THAT Good! The customer service is laid back but considerate. Took in my Macbook Pro (less than 4 years old) because it was running slow and having troubles starting up. Took a few days to get a quote, then a few days for the (first) repair. They said that my hard drive had gone bad and replaced it with a new 500GB device. Got it home, and I wasn't able to install Adobe CS software because the hard drive was formatted incorrectly (they knew I needed to install this software when I brought it in). Had to bring it back the next day, which was really great for my deadlines and schedule - and here's the kicker - they had to double-check to see if they were going to charge me again. I informed them that they were not. Seven weeks later, the computer is running very slowly again, and now has a clicking sound during startup - which takes about 5-10 minutes. I sincerely doubt that I'll waste my time with these guys again. What a waste of time and money. read more

A good experience, even though I ended up deciding not to get my computer fixed (it's an old Asus with a broken monitor frame/hinges - parts too expensive to replace at its age). They were professional and upfront about the time and the cost, and very friendly. My one problem: I called to let them know I'd pick up the computer without having it repaired, and was told I could come in whenever to get it. I came in four days later and found that the person working on it hadn't been told I'd decided to come for it, and it hadn't been reassembled. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience, as I don't have a car and had to plan my school day around making the trip out there on two different days. However, they were definitely very unhappy about the mistake, and when I came back for my reassembled computer, the guy working on it had taped up the frame for me and screwed a couple of pieces back in, so that I can still use it at home. It was a small fix, but definitely not something they had to do, as I wasn't paying them for any repair whatsoever - I thought this was a really great gesture! Great customer service; will definitely go back the next time I have a computer issue. read more

Called PRO Service Center to help install a new printer, back-up hard drive, transfer a camcorder movie onto computer and install a program so that it could be opened and shared on social network sites, and remove viruses from computer. The total time was about 2 1/2 hours. George did all the work and was fabulous. He took time to explain and show me how things should work. Best part they come to your home! My mother has been using PRO Service for over a year and has always raved about the quality service and patient technicians. I went to PRO in Andersonville to drop off my Imac because it would start up and then it would turn off in about 30 seconds. I was told that the hard drive had failed and they would have to do a "Second Level" recovery in order to save any of my data. This recovery included taking it to a dust free "clean room" in the city. It was going to cost $600 for the recovery and $200 for a new hard drive. Obviously this is a lot of money and so I got a second opinion from the IT person at my work. He looked at it and was able to assess that all I needed was a re-install of my OS software. He was able to do without ripping anything out of my computer. I am able to access all of the data on my computer now and it works normal. I DO NOT recommend this place for Mac repair. They didn't know to put my Mac in recovery mode and access my computer that way. I hate to be the one bad review for this place, but if it's expensive, get a second opinion! read more

I went to Pro computers after seeing so many good reviews but was extremely unsatisfied with the service I got and the price. The short of it is my pc motherboard died, first time for everything, and I was in a panic. My at-home biz is done on it, it's not a luxury...a total necessity. After fighting off several panic attacks, I brought it in to pro computers early the next morning (they open at 9am weekdays). Florian, the owner and chief maven was just opening up and promptly did some quick diagnostics to confirm it was indeed the motherboard. I explained the critical nature of being without my computer...so he put a rush on it, with an overnight shipment of the same model of motherboard to avoid having to do a hard drive reformat and reinstalling every one of my apps. The very next day I got a call from Florian to tell me the pc would be ready late afternoon...and sure enough it was! I literally flew from the far north burbs to pick it up from their shop. The only downside was that...probably in transporting it or an act of God...the pc seemed dead after I hooked it up. No response...nothing. Another motherboard failure?? But never fear. When I called Florian he patiently told me to open the unit to make sure the memory mods and video card were firmly seated. I did just as he said and...bingo! I was up and running. My 'puter runs perfectly -- better, actually, because the mfr. upgraded the motherboard in the interim. This is probably my 4th or 5th visit to Pro Computers in the last 3 years. For myself as well as my daughter's laptop -- which they repaired almost as quickly as my rush job. I've also sent my brother to them -- he's always screwing up his computers...and he has always been extremely pleased with their expertise and quick customer service. Oh, and there's my wife's cousin who called to thank me for referring him to them when he was in pc need. I've dealt with a variety of computer repair solutions...from in-home whizzes (two of them all thumbs and took forever to fix something I could almost have done for myself) to the friendly but incompetent neighborhood pc shit shops in strip malls. But after discovering pro computers, I wouldn't go anywhere else. In the three years I've dealt with them, they've never lost their courtesy, professionalism and competence. Oh yeah, they're also quite reasonably priced.. A great business...I hope they never change! read more

Took my Intel Mac Mini, technician replaced a hard drive for me, which is not an easy task for this compact desktop, checked to see if was working as I had not used this in a couple years and it had been dropped numerous times, checked out fine and was done in less than a hour. I had an unfortunate incident involving my iPhone 4 and a toilet. It was completely dead, it wouldn't charge and it wouldn't turn on. This had happened before and the previous place I took my phone to couldn't do anything to help, so I wasn't expecting much. Crescent fixed my phone completely and it only cost me $99 dollars. My phone works better than it did before all the water damagae. The only down side was the ordered a new part for my phone at it took a little over a week to arrive, so the entire repair took about a week and a half. But whenever I called to check for an update, they were very apologetic for the inconvenience. All in all, they brought my phone back from the dead and I only spent $99. A few weeks ago, I was completely heartbroken when I had accidently spilled an alcoholic beverage on my iBook G4. Bah, I am an idiot. I originally chose Pro Computers for my laptop repair based on the Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I didn't receive the same good service as others had. When I brought it in and explained what had happened, the guy responded, "Dude...bummer. Yeah, IF we can fix it, it will be at least 500 to 1,000 dollars," all with a slight grin on his face. He was definitely making fun of me...as if I didn't feel badly enough about killing my laptop. Although he shot down any glimmer of hope I may have had, I still decided to give them a chance. I paid the $49 diagnostic fee, and he told me that I would be hearing from them soon. Four days later, I still hadn't heard from them, so I called. The guy on the phone seemed rather irritated, and informed me that they were still waiting for a quote from the manufacturer. Three more days later, I finally received a phone call with a quote. It was seven-hundred and fifty dollars to fix it...so I declined their services. Instead, I bit the bullet and just purchased a brand new MacBook. I will not knock them for their quote, as I know Macs are very expensive to fix. However, I didn't receive that friendly and fast service that everyone else seems to have gotten. Oh well. read more

Long story short: thought I'd completely screwed up my custom build's motherboard after a BIOS upgrade gone bad. Computer wouldn't boot into windows, etc. So I bought a new motherboard and took everything to PRO Andersonville. Adin listened patiently to my predicament and said he'd be in touch within a day. About 4 hours later, Adin called with good news: the problem was just BIOS settings in my old motherboard and I wouldn't need the new hardware after all. He also installed the new graphics card that started my whole sad saga. Total cost under $50. Wish every place was as committed to doing the right thing by their customers. From now on, this is my no-brainer go-to when a computer problem out-kicks my meager know-how. read more

I brought my non-functioning circa 2007 MacBook Pro in and not only did their man Adin Calkic fix the hardware issues but gave me suggestions about relatively inexpensive upgrades (RAM, Hard Drive) which would drastically increase the computer's performance. Dropped off in the morning and picked up the laptop at 5:30pm the same day and I now have a 7 year old laptop that functions almost as well as my brand new MacBook Pro. I recently brought in my laptop to the Crescent store on North Ave in Bucktown, that I guess is now part of PRO. I had a good experience and dealt with nice friendly folks. Before I finished explaining the issue I was having, a tech popped his head out of an office to say he knew of my issue and it should be straightforward. For some models they even had parts in stock to take care of my issue, though mine needed to be ordered. Because of needing to order the part, it took more than a week, but they had told me that. This is definitely the place to bring your computer. I stumbled on this place a few years back and was instantly grateful that I had. Their service people and techs are hands down the best. This time I dragged my 40lb+ antique Mac osx over there and they did get her up and running again but alas, it was not meant to be. After going over options everyone agreed that the most economical thing to do was just get an external hard drive and move everything over and kiss the baby good bye. Putting a new hard drive in a computer that old would be like putting a new engine in a '65 Dart. So... my laptop stopped working and wouldn't hook up to the Internet. After calling Comcast and other computer tech people, I spent seven hours, I'm not exaggerating, 7 hours on the phone trying to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it. One of the tech companies even wanted to charge me $85 even though they didn't fix the problem, I argued and they finally backed off and didn't charge me. As a shot in the dark I called Pro. I spoke to Casey for about 5 minutes and he suggested trying a reset. I did that and poof! My problem was solved. It cost me nothing, Casey was so helpful and really knew his computers. I was lugging my laptop around town with my flash drive attached and dropped it too hard down on the floor and broke my flash drive in two...absolutely panicked as I had ALL of my important documents on there, I turned to yelp for assistance. Nothing came up for flash drive repair so I started looking at computer and electronic repair. Somehow by pure luck I found Crescent Technology. I called first and they said they could do it and gave me an estimate and a time frame. I came here to get my computer fan fixed. I got an unfortunate "fan error" and my computer wouldn't boot up. The PRO guys were really helpful and prompt fixing the issue. They diagnose and fix computers on a first come, first serve basis, but you have an option to pay extra for a same day diagnosis (which I paid for). I was fortunate that the fan just needed to be cleaned and not replaced, so there was no need to order a part and I got the fan fixed the same day. While my computer was there, I asked for a tune-up, and they took care of that the same day as well. They were really good keeping me updated on the progress with email and phone calls. Overall, I was a happy camper since my issue wasn't as dreadful as I thought it could have been, but I was also pleased that PRO Computers was very prompt and prices were reasonable. read more

Because I had ordered the part myself, they charged me a discounted rate to what they had originally quoted. The gentleman that repaired my PC was very friendly and conversational.
