Good wings and great steaks We just returned from an awesome family vacation in and around Wyoming. My wife and I enjoyed some "us time" walking around downtown Cody, seeing the nice shops and looking for restaurants for dinner. We wanted to eat here and were initially concerned by the over-21 policy... but kids are allowed, just in the back part of the restaurant... bar in front for over 21, and restaurant in the back allows under 21. We really liked the hot wings, and also enjoyed the steaks and bison burgers... just what we hoped for in Wyoming. Host was rude at the door! We had a reservation and there were 3 empty tables but he chose to seat at the front door. I asked if a table further back was available and said "this is it" and walked away. Betsy was our server and very pleasant but had too many tables to pay attention. Soup and salads were good and my husbands steak was great, mine was like shoe leather! Betsy never checked back so I ate some of my husbands, my sweet potato and left. After a long wonderful day of visiting Yellowstone park we decided to stop by Proud Cut Saloon for a nice meal. Upon walking in we waited a good moment for a waiter/hostess and nothing happened. We noticed 2 tables right at the entrance with 6 chairs each vacant with menus and silverware and decided to seat ourselves. Before we could seat ourselves a young waitress walked up to us asked how big was our party, we told her 6 and told us we could not be seated. They were at full capacity and we did not have a reservation. I looked at her with intent and told her there are 2 tables each with 6 chairs, how could you be at max capacity. She told me we have kids so they need to be seated in the patio not in the saloon. Ok I walked away and ended at Pizza Co. Millstone and Brewery where they sat us immediately and enjoyed a wonderful meal. read more

Very good food. I had a bison burger and my partner had a steak. We were both very pleased with our food. I also had a couple bottles of Red Lodge IPAs. The waitress had a little bit of an attitude and I could tell she didn't like having to explain all the meal options (like how your entrée comes with soup OR salad AND a side of your choice) to the table of European tourists near us but she seemed like a sweet person, probably just a little tired since it was the 4th of July and nearing 10 p.m. Felt like we had a real Wyoming steakhouse experience, especially after all the road signs telling us to eat beef. ;D read more

We went here while on our trip out west. We chose this restaurant because they were open and the other steak restaurant wasn't, boy am I glad. Best steak I have had in a long time. The onion rings were also great. Most of the big steakhouse chain restaurants make be have heartburn and upset stomach when I eat their steaks but not this place. Think it must be how the steak is cooked. Something odd I had never seen before was that they had to turn people away because they were having a shift change in the kitchen. I hated to see them lose business but it must be their protocol. If we are ever back in the area we will eat here again. read more

I visited Proud Cut only for drinks, not for food, so this review is for the bar aspect only. I really wanted to like this place. It looks more "authentic" than many of the bars found in tourist towns. But I don't know if I was in there on an off night, or maybe the bartender was new, but it just didn't quite click. The bartender seemed a little irritated, or at least wasn't feeling friendly. After taking our drink orders, he became perplexed and kind of shut down upon finding that they didn't have some of the ingredients in stock, leaving us to have to suggest alternative ingredients to him. That's something he should have been able to do on his own. These were simple drinks too, like "Seven and Seven". Oh well, we probably should have just stuck to beer, then I'd likely be able to give another star. read more

Recended by a guy in a cowboy hat on the street. So far this was a good choice. Although some weird foreign dude walked in, walked right up to me and took a photo of my face and left. Very odd. I feel like a spy now. We all got steak and ribs. Ribs were rad. Soup was great and she is keeping my diet coke full. I've had 47 diet cokes by now. Excited for my entree! Plot twist. Best bison burger I ever had! It wasn't dry like so many are. Best sweet potato fries I ever had! They were crisp but not fried so much that you couldn't taste the sweet potato. Went here with my parents for fathers day while traveling to Yellowstone. We all got the buffalo burgers with variations of sides including salad, sweet potato fries, etc. The burgers were good, no complaints whatsoever. When we were walking in we were following in some locals, so you know it's a good place. The decor isn't overwhelming but still gives you the feeling of the town. This was one of the worst "steakhouses I've ever been to. Disorganized, slow service is just the beginning. My wife got ribs, I got the 10 oz flat iron steak with baked potato and steak fries. It was 7:15 when we ordered and 8:12 when the food arrived. No apologies about that from the waitress. The ribs were decent and tender. My steak was flavorless. The potato was supposed to be "loaded" with cheese and bacon. A dab of cheese and four bacon bits. That's three more than my wife got on hers. The steak fries, I couldn't tell you how they are because I never got them. Waitress never checked on us while we were eating except to drive by a water delivery. I ate maybe half the steak (no steak sauce offered) and hardly any hot the dry potato. Simply put, my meal was horrible. No apology from her other than to offer a dessert (really, wait another 20 minutes?) Anyway, this is simply an awful place to eat. Worth a stop if you're passing through. There were six of us for lunch and we all felt it was a good value for a basic (burgers, steak, sandwich) meal. No complaints but no "Wow"'s either. It seems to be favored by the locals which is nice, and the atmosphere is definitely Cody. Plenty of bison and elk head mounts on the walls and windows looking out onto downtown Cody. The service is good and the server was friendly. It might be that it's hard to survive in Cody without offering the standard tourist fare but, after driving through hours of ranch land with plenty of cattle, it would be refreshing to have a few dishes that put a twist on the basic beef offerings. Maybe "farm to table" is a bit too "big city" for these folks but I'd love to try something created by a local chef, let loose with regional ingredients! That being said, Prime Cut is the best of the 5 Cody restaurants that I've experienced. If you are looking for "standard fare at a good price" this is the place to go. read more

You definitely need to make a reservation in the evening. We made one as we left the hotel when the clerk recommended we do that. We were going to have a short wait after we arrived but opted to eat at the bar instead. I had the 12 oz ribeye and it was excellent. The only downside we had was that I was looking for a local draft beer on tap and they only have bottles with the beer you find everywhere.
