Prouty's Chimney Sweep was hired to inspect a house my wife and I had under contract. Prouty's Chimney Sweep inspection noted no issues on either the exterior surfaces of chimneys or the chase termination of any chimneys. Shortly after moving in, water was found to be leaking through a chimney during rain. The chase cap and cover were not water tight and were failing to prevent moisture from entering the chimney. These were specific inspection points that Prouty's noted no issues with. I contacted Prouty's and spoke to Greg Prouty about this issue. He explained that they would do nothing to remedy the situation because no moisture was present in the fireplace at the time of inspection. That explanation directly conflicts with the inspection points on the inspection report provided by Prouty's. In my opinion, it's one thing to make a mistake on an inspection like this and mistakes can happen. To refuse to acknowledge that mistake shows poor business ethics and reflects a business that should be avoided at all costs. read more

We had an issue with our existing throat hold damper. Even when it was closed cold air would continue to come in. I called Prouty's to install a chimney cap damper. Kenny was very professional over the phone and able to accommodate us quickly. They showed up on time and explained the process on what they were going to do. I just had Greg and Co out to repair two 1962 chimneys and install a wood stove in one. They were recommended by a colleague who also had nothing but good things to say. I am really, really happy. Here's why. 1) No panic inducing upsells - told me what I MUST do to make it safe then gave me options for stoves that would fit my chimney opening and budget. 2) Responsive/trustworthy - answered all my questions, called me about a bid. We had a snowstorm (in March) but they showed up the same week and completed the work. 3) Very fair prices. Prior to purchasing our home in 1990, the chimney was inspected, resulting in a favorable report. Although we have never used the fireplace, and don't intend to (due to allergies), we were concerned that the chimney has been negatively affected by 27 years of weather. One of our neighbors recently used Prouty's for an inspection and chimney service, and was delighted, which is why we contacted Greg Prouty. Greg sent out two of his staff (Tyler and Kenny) to inspect our chimney and fireplace, and advise on replacing the worn-out fireplace doors. After a thorough inspection with pictures, they recommended some minor remediation (essentially rebuilding the cement crown at the top of the chimney, and recaulking the flashing); they also provided advice regarding replacement of the fireplace doors, and said they would install the new one on their final service visit. We were delighted with Prouty's service from the first contact to the final service visit, and give them a five star rating; in addition, I have asked our neighborhood association to include Prouty's on the listing of preferred service providers. Had a great experience with this company. I had birds in my chimney over the summer so I called Prouty's this fall to have it cleaned out and have a cap installed. There was a few weeks before their first available appointment but not too long. Their guys were very professional and put some covers over their shoes when walking in the house. When they were done they had taken some digital pictures of the masonry at the top of the chimney and pointed out some cracking due to age and provided an estimate to repair it but was not pushy about it, in fact he advised that I probably could go for a few years before it caused any problems.
