Had them do a total repair job on our chimney system - ended up being three new fireplace flues plus one for venting the gas water heater. They did a great job and the price was reasonable compared to the other quotes. A year after the repairs, one of the cables snapped. They came out and fixed it immediately, without charge. I received five star treatment from start to finish. Called Joe on a Friday of a holiday weekend, got an estimate on Tuesday and the work was done on Thursday. It could have been done on Wednesday, but it rained all day. The pricing was so fair that I didn't even need to negotiate. I had not looked into chimney repair before, but a bird entering your house like it's Santa will make you consider installing a chimney cap. Joe explained chimney caps to me like I was five years old, in the most respectful way. He explained how the chimney would need two caps because usually the furnace vents through the chimney. He explained how to check for myself in the basement. He was right. He also explained the chimney crown and that it needed to be replaced. I wondered how he could know that since no one climbed to the chimney during the estimate. I asked for pictures before the work started. The crown had cracks but served the house well for 80 years. He was right again. His team showed up, explained the scope of work, gently moved our plants out of the way, and got to work. We also had several bricks that needed to be replaced. That required the team to remove the broken brick, spread mortar, and install new bricks. They match the house well. I napped in front of the fireplace while they worked. I could only hear light tapping from the brick removal process. They sent photos while the work was in progress. Great photos that I will share with you below. Let me start off by saying I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS GOOD OR BAD. I called Victorian Chimney to replace my B vent that blew off the top of my house. I spoke to Joe late morning. He had a technician at my house later that day. The technician came looked at what needed to be done which took less than 5 min. He told me that Joe would call me. The next day Joe sent another technician (Matt) out from a different company (Global Bonding) He came and looked and also said that Joe would call. He also took the vent that came off with him??? From that point on I was back and forth on the phone with Joe if and when he can do the work and with Otis from Global to return the vent his technician took. Every call would they would say I don't know what's going on let me make some calls and I'll get back to you. Now I'm pissed and at the least, just wanted my vent back that was taken by Global. Finally had enough, I sent all parties that were evolved a txt saying that if I don't receive my vent by the end of the day, I will be contacting the police because now this is considered theft for not returning my property. We had an issue with our wood fireplace; smoke was coming inside the house and thought it needed a sweep. However, after inspection Victorian Chimney (VC) crew suggested to replace the flue, repair the crown, etc. Mr. Suresh, aka, Joe was very friendly and gave reasonable estimate, compared to others. The VC crew came in time as scheduled and completed the job and cleaned up throughly. Few days after using the fireplace, we noted the smoke was still coming in the house. I reported to Joe and he immediately send his people to inspect and noted that damper was not opening completely, which was inside the cap. Although it may not have been part of the contract but Joe was very accommodating and send the crew to fix the damper, which is working fine. I asked why he was not going to clean the chimney, and he said he didn't have the tools with him. He said someone would come out on Saturday to clean it. Saturday, no one showed up. Next week I called. They apologized and said someone would be out on December 21 to clean chimney. The day came and went. No show again. Three times scheduled. I received two bids last month to replace the two flues in our 100 year-old chimney. (One flue vents the HWH and boiler in the basement and the other flue vents the fireplace in our living room.) I contacted Joe at Victorian Chimney for some chimney work and the person he sent out gave me an estimate for the work requiring a deposit of $4700. I called Joe to be sure that the person he sent was legitimate and Joe vouched for him, so I paid the deposit. That was 5 months ago and the work was never done; the person Joe sent kept giving reasons for not doing the work (car accident, death in the family, etc.), and then simply stopped replying to calls and texts. At first, Joe was sympathetic but then he, too, stopped returning my calls and, in fact, blocked my number. I will now have to take them both to small claims court. What a terrible experience. He claimed it was clean even though I've used it for 4 years w/o getting it cleaned. He didn't inspect the roof or the exterior. When I brought this up with the office they apologized but still charged me. I'd look elsewhere, or at least don't bother w/ any discounted promotions. We've used Victorian Chimney twice. Once we we purchased our house and needed the chimney inspected and then repaired and then again for an inspection to see if it needed to be cleaned following a year of heavy use. They did an excellent job with the repair work, left the house and fireplace tidy afterwards, and were easy to work with. A few years later I called them back out to inspect the chimney and do any cleaning/maintenance. The man who came to inspect the chimney was curious (even put on boot covers in our shoe-less home) and told me the chimney was very clean and we should continue to use the same wood and save money on chimney cleaning! I wish I had contacted Victorian Chimney first. We ended up paying $150 to get an "inspection" of our Chimney done by Bethesda Chimney in the winter, when we first moved into our house. It took Bethesda Chimney a whole 5 minutes to tell us it needed to be relined. Their quote was $5,500. We then called 2 other companies to look for estimates, with Victorian Chimney being one of them. Victorian Chimney was the ONLY company that followed up with me after providing a totally free inspection and quote. We held off on getting the work done until Summer, but Joe, the owner, honored the same quote he game me in the winter, which was over 30% less than all other quotes. He provided me proof of insurance and also MD License. He had a crew of 4 people come out 2 days after we agreed on the work. They were extremely clean and professional. They had all of the work done in 3 days. This included relining, mason work, and waterproofing. The work also came with a warranty, the same as the more expensive companies. The owner Joe followed up with me each day to ensure I was satisfied. I asked to have some additional mason work done on the chimney, where it appeared to be less, and he did it at no charge, no questions asked. I would highly recommend using them. read more

We had 2 chimney repair shops come by and each told us we needed to have our two chimneys relined. The cost would have been $3,500. We called Victorian Chimney to get a third estimate. "Walt" stopped by and told us we only needed some minor sealing. The total cost for the estimate and the sealing was $225. They could have just given us an estimate and made some real money. I can't say enough good things about these folks. They were in Falls Church and have now moved to Maryland but they have to come to you, don't they? Two thumbs up. read more

Carmine and the crew at Victorian definitely inspired the most trust and came in least expensive, as well. Price wasn't my motivating factor in making a decision, I just wanted to be sure that the work would be great and last as long as possible. They explained everything that needed to be done, took pictures at the roof level and inside, and explained what elements of the work were the most important from a safety and maintenance perspective. I had another chimney company come to supply information on why I am receiving cold air in my place and it was because the damper that was installed by Victorian Chimney did not close all the way. The licensed technician from the other company then told me both of my flues are not regulation, the smoke chamber was not sitting correctly and I should not even light any fires. Here's a 100% truthful chronological report of my experience with Victorian Chimney Service. We needed a chimney cap. They had an ad in a direct mail pack. They offered a $25 off coupon on chimney caps. Their reputation appeared very good so I called them. I mentioned the height of the chimney, discussed price, and set the appointment for 12/2/19 between 10-1. So on that day, unbeknownst to me, the tech parked in our driveway, wrote up an estimate for the same price, and rang my doorbell. Surprised, I was not told it would be for an estimate only. Because from previous experience with chimney companies I was expecting the work to be done in one efficient visit, with them having the cap in a van, ladders on top, etc. And the previous cap was from Home Depot, off the shelf and nothing special. So okay I thought and told the tech that I had the coupon for $25 off. Usually one has to present that at the time they show up to do estimates. This guy didn't give me the opportunity. But he said okay, they have to order the cap (?) and for me to call and schedule the install and present the coupon then. So I did call and schedule the install for 2 days later. No show. I called. Rescheduled for the next day -- ok. No show again. I called. They said the cap hadn't come in to their supplier yet, so I accepted rescheduling for Saturday, 12/7. In my own disbelief to the unusual - ness of a supplier not having a common size in stock or perhaps running out of it, I told him my first one came from Home Depot -- as a hint. Regardless, no show. Three strikes and they're out. And at no time did anyone ever call me; I had to call them. My theory: They got such a good response to their direct mail ad that they prioritized the biggest jobs and pushed me aside. I can understand that, but the way they handled it was unwise and unprofessional. I have an old house that has gotten major chimney work. I never write reviews, but had to write one for this company after the terrible service I had. If I could rate it lower, I would. They had terrible communication, failed to do a proper cleaning, blamed the appliances for their failures, didn't show up as scheduled, then avoided my calls. For starters, their correspondence is terrible. The guy who answers the phone just doesn't get it regardless of how many times you explain to him. The actual cleaning went terribly as they only made matters worse which cost me a lot more money. They deny any mistakes and give you the run around, then avoid calls. All in all, it took 3 attempts and a non professional to tell them what to do to get it right. Avoid!!! read more

Therefore the price of the seal was $375. The other reviewer had her chimney crown sealed for $225. I know that crown sealer is not that expensive. How do you explain the difference? My inference from this math is that you price high and hope the customer buys. That's fine, it's your business. But it sure makes me feel dumb, which makes me an unhappy customer." These guys were a RIPOFF!! Listen to J.A. I asked for my chimeys to be recapped and instead they slapped on some coating that I could have done myself as well as a "sealant" which sealed nothing! There was a small tree growing on one of my chimneys and they "removed" it and just covered it up. Guess what? The tree is back!!! Growing stronger than ever! The owner does not respond. They charge $105 for an evaluation and estimate. On the evening before scheduled work, the owner calls to reschedule for a later time. He is unsure what time his workers will be available, but he will call me first thing the next morning to finalize a time, but he doesn't follow up, and I need to call several times to work out a new appt time. When the workers finally arrive, they're late and unprepared to do the work. They claim the work order didn't describe the job properly. When I ask, "What does the $105 pay for then? What's the point of paying that money if the initial diagnosis is totally worthless?", they just shrug their shoulders and quickly leave, promising that Joe (the owner) will call back to reschedule. Well, no surprise, he never calls, and my calls to both business numbers go straight to voicemail, which is full, so I can't leave a message. And in addition, their website, victorianchimney.com has gone offline. I don't know what happened to this business, but I need to find some place else to actually do the work. UPDATE: (11/9/2016) You're right Joe -- I didn't get charged $105 -- but you're leaving out a key part of our conversation which is my credit card got flagged for fraud the VERY NEXT DAY; therefore, no one would have been able to charge anything to my card.
