Located in Churchill, it has a bunch of restaurants around it along with a DJ (at least when I went). I was visiting out of town and even though we went on a Saturday night, we were able to get in and find a table. We probably waited in line just to get into Churchill for about 15 minutes? We ordered the ceviche, esquite (in a cup), shrimp tacos, carne asada burrito, carne asada tacos, a pollo asado taco, and fries with carne asada and queso. The shrimp and pollo asado tacos were just okay. Not too much flavor to them which was a bummer. The ceviche wasn't the best and it didn't look appetizing coming out. I will be dreaming about the carne asada tacos for a long time. Tucked in the middle of the Churchill is this hidden gem. The Churchill is downtown so prepare to circle around for parking. There are a few lots but when there are vendors and food trucks out it gets hard to find a close spot. This was our first time trying Provecho and WOW! We grabbed two carne asada tacos (comes with onion and cilantro plus lime, red + green salsa, radish and cucumber on the side) to try. The meat was a lot thicker (think small bites of hearty steak) than most cuts and so so so flavorful. I didn't add any salsa to mine- I didn't want to take away from the flavors! The service was friendly and fast- they assign you a number and let you know where to watch for your number to be posted- makes for a simple pickup. At the Churchill there are a few eatery and drink options with shared seating in the middle of the building, a shared water station and bathrooms. They've got cornhole and lots of tv's around, and a DJ. It gets pretty loud in here but it's a fun atmosphere. There are a few local shops too. A fun place to hang out in the summer (AC + fans) or the winter (heat lamps!). Pups are welcome too! read more

First time i ever had saltines with ceviche and its quite the unique taste, I'd heard about it but had never tried it, so that was pretty cool. We crawled into the Churchill complex to escape the summer sun and 102 temp to get a cold drink and saw the taco place and couldn't resist. 3 tacos for $12 deal jumped out at us, daughter demolished her meat ones and I enjoyed the fish and prawn, with the prawn being my favourite. Salsa and sauces don't have much bite but we like spice n heat so maybe it was just our personal preference. I grabbed drinks at the bar opposite and found a great strawberry/pepper/basil non alcoholic shrub cocktail which was delicious and accompanied the tacos perfectly, along with a pineapple cider. We loved the Churchill, and the shops and market outside, and will be back to Provecho for more tacos in future. read more

It's a shame that in such a trendy spot in Phoenix that there is no good Mexican food representation. Provecho is ok. I think Chelo, Centrico, and definitely Taco Boys are all better options within a mile of Provecho. Ghost donkey down the street has better ceviche (but no tacos). And the taco truck at cobra is probably better too. There is also a filibertos on central which honestly is also probably yummier. If you're at Churchill drinking, I'd go for a burger at stoop kid or a pizza from freak bros. Phoenix just has way too much great Mexican food to take Provecho that seriously. Oh the food? The carne en su jugo is nice and feels like comfort food. It's basically meat and beans in the meat broth/gravy and served with warm tortillas. I liked it, but there wasn't anything that made me crave it again. I also ordered the churros, which were delicious and freshly made. The churros came with 3 dipping sauces (caramel, strawberry, and a cream cheese(?)), and I think the strawberry was my favorite. Pretty standard tacos, I wouldn't say they're extraordinary but they're also not straight up bad. I've only been to The Churchill a few times and it's better known as a spot for drinks, but Provecho provides the sustenance one needs before anything. My friend ordered their carne asada fries that had a variety of ingredients on them; she said they were okay. I am quite the picky eater so part of me is willing to choose this place again if I am eating at the Churchill and don't want anything else in there, but that's only because I was fine with all the ingredients on the tacos. Also this isn't what I would call a "cheap" place but I haven't really found a taco spot in downtown phoenix that I could include in that label anyways. This spot has really good tacos and is located inside of Churchill, which is a really nice lively area in downtown! I ordered the three plate taco combo: shrimp, care asada, and carnitas. The meat was very tender and I personally loved the carne asada taco because I typically find steak very dry, but not here! The only downside of my meal was that the food was pretty cold, so I'm unsure how fresh the tacos actually were. Overall, the food was still great and I would go back again. The ambiance was a 10/10 experience! Churchill has open outdoor seating, which made it more COVID safe and there are other trendy restaurants within that area. They had a live DJ too! Finally came to try the new spot in downtown! Let's just start by saying The Churchill is legit, can't wait to come back to hangout with friends. Provecho caught my eye after stating they stuck to authentic Jalisco, Guadalajara foods. Their menu offers a great variety and daily specials. We ordered tacos: chicken, carne asada, brisket, and shrimp. All of the meats/shrimp/chicken had a flavorful taste. The brisket is bursting in flavor and filling; not you're typical meat for a taco but highly recommend it. The chicken taco was perfect, not dry and juicy. We also tried the elote in a cup, the corn has its own flavor which is amazing and super tasty. I also got an agua fresca best part is the little bag they serve it in, the horchata is great. I'm just excited to come back and try more of their menu as they have ceviche, birria de chivo, and different plates. Business incubators like The Churchill are great for giving small startup businesses a space from which to launch a vision. In Provecho's case, the vision of owner Ryan Oberholtzer is to bring his interpretation of Jaliscos style Mexican food to the Downtown Phoenix crowd. And to do so in an eco friendly manner. The mission seems like a noble one. And with big crowds consistently streaming into The Churchill's inviting complex, its a pretty good spot to take a gamble. Likewise, I decided to take a gamble on Provecho for an early dinner on Saturday afternoon. The Churchill complex can be found on the northeast corner of 1st Street & Garfield in Downtown. Look for Provecho's small kitchen setup inside the southeast corner of the complex. Here you order at the register. After ordering they give you a card with an illustration on it (mine was a drum set). When the order is ready, the cooks place a blowup photo of your illustration in the kitchen window. You then pick it up and grab a seat anywhere in the complex. While they have tacos as any Mexican joint would, the menu otherwise largely steers clear the Americanized Mexican foods we're accustomed to. Ceviches, Aguachiles, and even Tortas make appearances on the menu. Speaking of which, that torta was what I was here for. I've had tortas (Mexican sandwiches) throughout the Phoenix area and rarely have left unhappy. Provecho's Torta Ahorgada is a sandwich of carnitas stuffed inside Bolillo (basically a Mexican baguette) that is then quite literally drowned in tomato sauce. Intriguing. I also asked for a couple of appetizers, but they were out of both. Out of two menu items before the prime dinner hour on a Saturday? No bueno. On the plus side, they were stocked on the dessert front and a good tres leches cake was mighty appealing. Provecho's tres leches is served with whipped cream, strawberry sauce, toasted almonds, and shaved coconut. Total cost for the food and tax came to $15. The eco friendly angle comes in the form of compostable plates and silverware. Even the cups and take out bags are compostable. Mother Earth sends her thanks. Now then, let's evaluate the food. But first, I have to mention my food took almost 15 minutes. I know its a small operation, but it was hardly the busiest time of day so I can only imagine how long it takes during prime time. My feelings about the torta were...mixed. I loved the tender juicy carnitas and there was lots of it. The Bolillo bread was decent too but honestly I think the tomato sauce kind of soured me on this sandwich. A little spice or seasoning would've done this dish some good as the tomato sauce was really bland. The Tres Leches cake on the other hand was very pleasant with a super moist texture and I really liked the addition of the strawberry sauce. Overall, just okay this first go around. The dessert gets a big thumbs up and the meat in my sandwich was excellent. But between the slow service, missing menu ingredients, and bland tomato sauce, it was far from ideal. Somewhere between a 2.5-3 star experience for me. Provecho has been open long enough that they should have the kitchen flow and the food inventory pretty well figured out. But at least for now, this ambitious startup still has plenty of room for improvement. read more

Our party had 3 orders of the quesadillas. The cheese inside the quesadilla was different compared to others. It's the real Mex cheese not the fake kind. You'll get the horchata in a bag. Having authentic bags with straws was really nice. Although the boyfriend kept thinking I was weird for this as he grew up drinking Agua Frescas this way. Such a great restaurant! It has many delicious vegetarian options- veggie tacos, elote- a must try such a creamy dish, and the vegan rice and beans are so good and authentic. The aguas frescas are refreshing and yummy- a must try and very authentic! Brunch options are great- the french toast is to die for and the egg dishes are delicious. The coffee is my personal favorite - the espresso is a mexican blend and the Mexican Lattee balances the perfect anount of espresso and traditional mexican flavors like cinnamon and brown sugar. I've been to Provecho last night. The tacos were okay, just a little pricey in my opinion. $3.50 per taco. Their Jamaica tea is good too, the idea of using a bag is really cool. I wish I could try their Horchata, but it has dairy milk in it, which I am intolerant to. I thought the whole concept of the Horchata was to use plant based milks but not here I guess.
