OK, so I went over to the Providence Eagle's block party for this past weekend's RI Pride festivities. Beforehand, I'd been to the "Festival" along that river, and that whole thing smelled like teenagers who don't bathe, and sewage. There were entirely too many rainbow stickers, too. I hate rainbow stickers. Poor yellow labs with rainbow bandannas around their necks. Rainbows. They're this happy, friendly symbol of how unique yet inclusive we are and, honestly, I don't see your average queer as inclusive or unique. If they were they would bathe and not have so many goddamn rainbow stickers on everything and hopefully they'd get into more bar fights and act like GG Allen on occasion. So, we left and took a power nap (no nookie 'cause my friend Chris was bunking in our room!) pregamed a little and then headed over to the nighttime Pride Parade. That was cute, except the tweaker writhing on a float, showing off his nuts. I'm pretty liberal insofar as public expression, but the kids along the parade route should never have to look at a tweaker's balls. It's just confusing. I expected the little girl standing next to me to ask: "Mommy, is that a "V" alien?" After the parade, we went over to the Eagle block party. It was $15! But who cares, it was fun. There were like 12 circuit-boy-style shot boys. "Where do you find all these shot boys?" I asked the bartender as he slid me a Sparks cosmo. Right away, a shot boy came over and asked me to tutor him in calculus. No idea why. I suck at math. That is what computers and accountants are for. 12:30 am in Providence RI on June 20, 2010--- there was something in the air...maybe the smell from the festival, I don't know. People were acting peculiar. Sadly, I can't get into details because it was both x-rated and involved some people I'd like to maintain my relationships with. So, use your imagination. They can show porno in RI, which I think is fun. I didn't alienate anyone and conversely no one did anything unforgivable to me. Now that's a successful outing! So, for shear raunchiness, 1990's style circuit shot-boys, porno, and the fact that unlike 70% of the people I surveyed, I had a fun time. Happy Pride Rhode Island. read more

My first time at this storied bar was not what I expected. It was early on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, one of the first in Rhode Island where you could really enjoy the outdoors. So, there were only 4 or 5 people inside. The place was well lit and they had snacks out. Who can resist sour cream and onion ruffled chips after having a few cocktails?! The DJ was mixing great music so I could understand how he has a reputation as the best DJ in PVD...I assume this is the same person I've been hearing about. I've been before and ahd surly service, but tonight topped everything I'd experienced before, for surliness. First, as usual, the bartender was busy talking to his friends at one end of the bar. Getting them drinks when they ran dry...and completely ignoring the other end of the bar. When another bartender finally started serving the other end of the bar, I thought - well, at least HE'S professional. I spoke too soon. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence followed me over from the block party and we started engaging in a little back-and-forth teasing. The 2nd bartender heard just my reply to one of the Sisters (my brother) and started threatening to throw me out. He wasn't hearing me when I was telling him that I was WITH the Sisters, that one was my brother, another was my brother-in-law and that I would probably be driving them all home. He had it in his head that I was hassling them and even THEM telling him that I was with them didn't have any effect. So, as it was almost closing time anyway, we left. I won't be back. read more

1 big pro. 1 big con. The pro is that's this bar is awesome. I've had fun hanging out with patrons, shooting the breeze, and just enjoying the atmosphere. Drinks are good, prices are good. Definitely more of a hardcore gay bar, but that's just fine with me. Everyone is comfortable in their own skin, and are pretty accepting of straight men and women. Atmosphere is dark and fun. Bartenders are great, friendly, and responsive, with one exception: The con. The older bartender. This guy has one hell of an attitude problem. Being a former business owner myself I know that you and the staff are the face of the business. Even if you're having a bad day or you're just a prick in general, the customer should never have to experience that. This guy has multiple complaints on him, and I'm actually surprised he still has a job and his teeth for that matter. He's been a jerk to myself, my friends, and other patrons. Especially this past weekend (8/16 & 8/17). He has a god complex, and if he's not careful someone might call him out on it in a bad way. One bad apple...that's all it takes. read more

One of the last good leather bars. The people that go here are friendly. Parking can be tough especially when Providence Performing Art Center fills the lots up. It's not a huge place but one weekends it's always full. read more

Been here once for an outing with friends assuming it would be a nice WELCOMING environment my experience was appalling . The queer community is most know for unity but the same way its know for togetherness theres an underlying subtle layer of shady ness and catty ness. Along side witty banter when I arrived i was greeted with good energy skip towards the end of the night ... our waiter was continuously pressing me about putting my mask on every time Id get up to head towards the bathroom... It felt almost like I was just being targeted at a certain point, discriminated almost. I understand the global health situation were going through but for you as a waiter with your own mask not even properly covering your own face have the audacity to tell me I need to keep my mask on WHILE USING THE BATHROOM is ridiculous . Aside from the salty waiter i thought i had a good time .. after leaving and FULLY PAYING MY TAB . I assumed an X amount of money charged on my card accompanied by "THE EAGLE" on the statement, meant i was all set just me using my common knowledge they take your card until you close your tab & PAY. After getting home one person from our group that night let me know our waiter had came back to our table and started to disrespect them and rashing them for me "stiffing him out on a tab". We come a week later and the same waiter VERY RUDELY AND UN PROFESIONAL ASF dosent even let me sit down before trying to belittle me "are you going to stiff me out on a tab again, am i gunna have to babysit you..." that was catty asf and very bad customer service. Time and place girl.. if you feel a way your duty as an employee set on giving good customer service is to communicate in much more appropriate manner not TRY to embarrass the customer by causing a scene and belittling them . You dont know me Im not broke & my tab was paid in full big girl. If the issue was about getting a tip well give better service miss thing. Packed on Sat night for an AIDS fundraiser. Great crowd and music if u into leather scene. Only 45 min from Boston. Crazy that Boston cant support a leather bar and often the the evolution of grinder and such are given as excuses, but the demand is obviously still there when most of the people there are coming from Boston. Providence Eagle is definitely a well-needed space for the fetish community in the area in which both overweight people and fit people can be shirtless without fear of being rejected. I know they were in a bigger place before, but I think they're going to have to find a bigger one eventually. Why not do it if there is enough clientele? read more

was there for NYE and it was a bit understaffed..waited 20 minutes to check in coat, another 20 minutes to get a drink, first bartender took his sweet ass time like he didn't want to be there, finally made to the back in which it took 5 minutes just for that then waited 10 min back there..First time there on NYE and most other places but on the ball drop close to midnight, here was just porn..couldnt get champagne at midnight on because you couldn't get thru to the stage read more

The "Providence Eagle" Reborn! I just had the best time in Providence for Pride 2013, due in part to the Eagle's block Party with the best music, best crowd, friendly Bar Staff, and overall the best New Venue in Providence! I was never a true fan of the old P-Eagle, (believe me I gave it many chances),but am always open to try a new place and this is the best Leather/Levi/Bear Bar in New England. This bar has taken the best attributes of the Old Place and moved into a new, better Gay Bar location in the City, equipped with the best new staff, in a much more interesting space with all the expected Leather/Levi/Bear Trimmings to entertain you to the Max! This place will impress you and you will want to come back for more! The difference with the new Eagle is that you can start your night here and end it here and feel totally satisfied in staying at one bar for the whole night. A great place to meet new friends, and meet old ones, with just the right cruising feel to make this place the most interesting of all in Providence, RI. read more
