Drinks were pretty good! We've been meaning to hit The Avery for a while now and finally made it happen. It was pretty much what I expected based on reviews: pretty good drinks in a classic cocktail style setting. I didn't think there was anything that stuck out or made it original. It took a little while for the bartender to make our drinks, but once ready, we decided to bring them over to the lower table area. Once we were finished and walking out, the bartender asked us to bring up all of our glasses and napkins to the bar. I thought bussing our own table was a little odd too. Located not far from there there and tricycle ice cream, this is up and coming neighborhood which I never really noticed when I was growing up in the area but now it seems to be getting a revival. They have an outdoor seating arrangement. If you're interested. I think it's pretty cool. It's in the neighborhood so it's not much of a ambience. They do have a cobblestone street if you like that kind of vibe. Inside. It's more of a lounge environment, but they also have bar stools. I did not use the bathroom so can't call it. Not that parking is only on the street For the drinks this is what we got Bee's knees: I did not try. My friend did like his drink Boulevardier: I'm not the biggest fan of this drink. I did get a good buzz but didn't like the flavor profile much. The barkeep was very nice and friendly. She told me that they have been around for 16 years which really surprised me since I've never noticed this place before. This was my third time going to the Avery, and it consistently delivers delicious, fairly priced drinks. Service was quick at the bar given that there was only one bartender on a Tuesday night, and there was ample seating. The ambiance is great for grabbing an after-work drink with friends or coworkers, or going on a date. This is a speakeasy style bar in Federal Hill in Providence. It does not have a splashy entrance and it is embedded in a residential neighborhood, so it is a bit unexpected. The decor within is dark but with well detailed woodwork and ceiling work. Cocktails were excellent and the atmosphere relaxed. Came here on the suggestion of ChatGPT so had fairly high expectations. The vibe is very dark without supportive lighting to really see anything unless you're seated at the bar itself or by the window. Bartender was nice enough and the drink options were fine-all pretty standard and taste-wise were normal fare. The most bothersome aspect, though, is the smell. Never seen that before, not that it matters that much. Old fashion was a 7/10. Two people got the Garden Mule, one person gave it a 9/10 and the other gave it a 7/10. They both said it wasn't sweet. Meh.... Here are my thoughts: First of all, great cosy setting on the inside. Armchairs are incredibly comfortable and it's easy to wind down here with colleagues, friends or a date. The décor is great... beautiful sirens on the wall and dark colours. However, on the night we went, there was only one bartender for all these people. Seems overwhelming for one guy. Drinks were also nothing special so we ended up leaving after a couple of cocktails and headed elsewhere. It's a quaint little spot to go for if you want to the bartender to make you something warm, cozy, and STRONG. Very very VERY affordable pricing for what the market has to offer. Very cozy neighborhood bar/speakeasy. Comfy leather chairs, small intimate tables and a long cushioned bench. Smallish bar that's quite attractive. Today around 8 the Art Deco style naked women "art" on either side of the bar weren't backlit - fine by me! The dark interior is lovely carved wood (with some more naked females sigh) and deco scones. Dark interior, in the right way. Good music - audible but not crazy loud. The bartenders refused to serve anyone from our group. We were not a group that came there ready to rage more so a group to enjoy a nice cocktail. However, we learned we weren't welcomed so we left. Really enjoyed stopping at The Avery for a drink! We came by before dinner at big king across the street and they had just opened so it was pretty empty but the bartender was super welcoming. I appreciated that they were checking vaccine cards (January 2022), the great cocktail list, and the cool lounge vibes. The seating would be really pleasant for a small group or a casual mingle but I imagine it can be loud and hard to maneuver if it's busy. i want to start this review on a positive note and say the drinks are truly very good. i would have ordered a second drink for sure if the bartender wasn't so disrespectful. to be specific, it was the bartender named EMORY C with a seashell tattoo on the back of her left arm. my friends and i walked in with a great attitude and excited to try a new bar. we waited for about 10 minutes for her to acknowledge us, but she ended up serving the (white) group who walked in after us (people of color) and even fed an actual child cherries from her hand before she even said hello to us. when we were finally acknowledged and told her we were ordering on separate tabs, she snapped at me and friends because apparently the pace of our order was too slow for her (it was 5:30pm and not busy). as someone who has worked in customer service in a very high traffic restaurant, i know what it's like to be overwhelmed and deal with rude customers. i can assure you this was not the case with my group. her attitude was uncalled for and the reason why i will not return to this bar. if i wasn't as good of a person, my $1 tip would've been $0. EDIT: emory ended up STALKING me to the restaurant i went to for dinner after going to the avery to verbally assault me because of my review. i felt so unsafe by being followed by the woman who treated my friends and i poorly. who's to say what she would do next? read more
