The first question I asked the guy at the front desk was if they are in-network preferred providers and he said yes. If he had said no, obviously I would have gone elsewhere, but he assured me they were in-network and told me all I owed for my visit was my copay. A couple of weeks later I received a bill for quite a few hundred dollars. Thinking it's a mistake I call my insurance to try to get it straightened out. Eventually I was directed to Maria, the billing manager, for Acute Family Medicine. I called her 3 times and she never called me back. I had to physically walk into her office to get her to talk to me. All she could say was she wasn't sure what was going on because she had never set up any sort of plan between the clinic and my insurance. She said she talked to the guy at the front desk, but didn't remember telling me they were in-network. She said she felt like the clinic was partially to blame and she would try to figure something out. After several more attempts at calling Maria, she finally called me back and said she would try to have another doctor (not the doctor who saw me) sign off on my paperwork at an attempt to have my insurance pay for it because the other doctor might be in-network...umm ok? That doesn't seem very ethical, but sure, lady. Maria then tells me that I should start making payments because she "doesn't think this plan will work". At this point, I'm so fed up. I have my lawyer call her and she tells him she never asked the guy at the front desk if he remembered telling me they were in-network. She can't get her story straight. I never heard from her again, just another bill. I paid it so I wouldn't be sent to collections, but I seriously urge you to find anywhere else to go. The staff obviously can't be trusted to know how to do their jobs correctly.

I don't know what's going on or why billing issues can't be properly explained, but I'm over it and won't ever return. I believe my money is not being properly handled.

They even called several pharmacies in the area without me asking when I found out my usual one was closed to make sure I had access to my medication as soon as possible. She was assured it would be covered. We then got several bills for BOTH visits along with the labs that Dr. Perez apparently lied about stating that it would be covered. We spoke to the billing department and they were HORRIBLE - rude and unprofessional telling me that WE are responsible for knowing THEIR billing codes and practices, not THEIR own doctors, like what??! We will NEVER be returning for any services from them as they are unresponsive when trying to talk to the office and do not take ownership for their own actions.

If you hate getting cleanings, GO SEE HER! I actually followed her here from my former dental clinic of 25 years because she is THAT good. I had X-rays done which showed a deep cavity. Enter the sads because I hate needles. I've turned into a silent-sobbing puddle the last two times I needed fillings in the past. Eagle River Dental was able to get me in a few days later with Dr. Tracy to get it taken care of. I'm proud to report I didn't shed a tear this time! Not even a little leak. Dr. Tracy was quick and eased my discomfort during the numbing process by wiggling the little mirror tool thingy against my gums while he injected the local anesthetic. I was so distracted trying to figure out what purpose that maneuver served that I only felt VERY mild discomfort. After that part was all done, I was like "Ohhhh... I see what you did there." I have had some pretty traumatizing experiences with needles, so all those little extra tricks to make the process easier is SO appreciated! The rest of the appointment was a breeze! They even made time at the end of my appointment to get impressions so I could get a replacement occlusal guard. Dr. Tracy and the dental assistant, Brandy, were friendly and their lighthearted conversation during my procedure was entertaining, which helped relax me. I appreciated that Sheree and Dr. Tracy asked me questions and gave recommendations about my home care. It makes me feel like they care about me and my health, and I'm not just another task for the day. Everyone was really nice, they all seem to enjoy what they do, and I'll be going back in six months! They charged me the same for a late fee when I have never been late in almost 30 yrs of being a patient. Our family has used them for our entire adult life. Especially in the Winter. My regular Doctor told me about Deb Kiley, so I reluctantly went to her office. Best move I have made since finding J. Little as my Doctor. Deb took a look at this poor old Cyborg body and new I was in trouble. Since going to her my quality of life has improved, I can move around alot more, and she always has a "Good Medical Idea" for my ailment's am very thankful she took me as a patient. If you live up here, and suffer from alot of discomfort during the Winter months, then get your ass in to see Deb. She is one in a million, and Alaska is lucky to have her...(Don't tell her I wrote this, she might think I like her or something....:)
