The actual doctor visit was fine. The 1 star rating is for the incompetent staff. I came to this…read moreclinic because one of the doctors was listed as in-network for my insurance. The first question I asked the guy at the front desk was if they are in-network preferred providers and he said yes. If he had said no, obviously I would have gone elsewhere, but he assured me they were in-network and told me all I owed for my visit was my copay. A couple of weeks later I received a bill for quite a few hundred dollars. Thinking it's a mistake I call my insurance to try to get it straightened out. Eventually I was directed to Maria, the billing manager, for Acute Family Medicine. I called her 3 times and she never called me back. I had to physically walk into her office to get her to talk to me. All she could say was she wasn't sure what was going on because she had never set up any sort of plan between the clinic and my insurance. She said she talked to the guy at the front desk, but didn't remember telling me they were in-network. She said she felt like the clinic was partially to blame and she would try to figure something out. After several more attempts at calling Maria, she finally called me back and said she would try to have another doctor (not the doctor who saw me) sign off on my paperwork at an attempt to have my insurance pay for it because the other doctor might be in-network...umm ok? That doesn't seem very ethical, but sure, lady. Maria then tells me that I should start making payments because she "doesn't think this plan will work". At this point, I'm so fed up. I have my lawyer call her and she tells him she never asked the guy at the front desk if he remembered telling me they were in-network. She can't get her story straight. I never heard from her again, just another bill. I paid it so I wouldn't be sent to collections, but I seriously urge you to find anywhere else to go. The staff obviously can't be trusted to know how to do their jobs correctly.

The head of the billing department here is horrid. She was incredibly rude to me when I was trying…read moreto understand a bill that didn't make sense, and essentially yelled at me to pay it. When I called asking for clarification on another billing issue a woman at the front was very rude to me too. I don't know what's going on or why billing issues can't be properly explained, but I'm over it and won't ever return. I believe my money is not being properly handled.

I called the United Health Care pre-authorization line after my wife took our son in and tried to…read moreconfirm that Mat-Su Regional Urgent Care is ok. After talking to three people (who never talked to each other) they said it is ok, but that I should check with the Urgent Care facility directly just in case. So I contacted Mat-Su Regional Urgent Care directly. They didn't know, but to their credit they called me back in an hour, albeit confused about what I needed and somewhat exasperated with me that I'd even ask. But I did learn something. Evidently though the Palmer Mat-Su Regional clinic is part of the Mat-Su Regional Hospital network, that particular Mat-Su Regional urgent care facility bills under its own TIN because God hates me. I don't really mean that; it's just how I felt. My point is, it's still not clear if the care will be in network or not. This Mat-Su Regional clinic has to bill under its own distinct TIN as like "Mat-Su Regional Urgent Care Palmer Campus" or something. So am I covered? They don't know. United Health Care doesn't know. Nobody knows. It's not fair that people have to live like this, and I know the clinics hate it too. But my frustration and immense dissatisfaction with the Mat-Su Regional Palmer urgent care clinic itself stems from this: I don't understand why they would brand as the same company, would have the same name, the same logo, would be the same company operationally but then possibly not be the same company for insurance and accounting purposes except to make enormously stressful and costly situations worse. For fun. It's not fair and it's not right. This is nothing about quality of care; I wasn't there, but I hope they took good care of him. This is an administrative issue, a very serious criticism relative to ownership and management. It is however not at all intended as a referendum on the actual medical and customer service staff, people who likely work in medicine to actually take care of people (and God bless them for that!).

I saw Heather Linden, PA. She was friendly, professional and she listened to what I had to say. I have this issue once or twice a year and often I have to fight for the help I need. PA Linden took my concerns seriously and never once did she talk to me like I was stupid. Sorry, but I have had that problem several times over the last 30 years and it is always a relief to be able to work with someone who understands. She asked the right questions and listened when I answered. I was in and out in under an hour. I am very grateful to PA Linden and the staff at MatSu Regional Urgent care.
