After reviewing a number of other loan provider options I decided to select Scott Shapiro. The…read moreinterest rates Regions was providing were good, but I went with Scott because he very quickly understood what I was looking for in a loan and was able to come back and answer questions regarding my special circumstances. He provided several clear/straightforward options that made my decision much less stressful. He was always detailed in his work, and he followed up himself on ensuring that all documents needed were provided. I would certainly recommend him as an option to anyone looking for a loan, he is very much on top of his game and extremely efficient.

In March 2014 we were in the process of building a home in Milton, GA, and we got a mortgage…read morepre-approval from Scott Shapiro at Regions Bank in Woodstock. It was a quick, two day process that was required by the home's builder to assure them we could afford the new home. Soon after the pre-approval we were lured into working with another mortgage broker by our real estate agent. The new mortgage broker and company (who will remain nameless) took all of our paperwork and presumably began the mortgage process for a closing four months later in mid July. Fast forward to the day before our four-month-scheduled closing date and the broker calls saying that they don't have the appraisal back and we won't be able to close as promised. Little did I know at that point that the appraisal, which was approved over a week later, was the least of my worries. Did I mention that our mover was ready to deliver our cross country household items the day after the scheduled closing? Everything had to go into storage... I was mad as a hornet, and three days after the scheduled closing the broker offered to pay for our storage in transit, and when asked if I should be considering another mortgage company he said, "I would". That's when I called Regions Bank and "Superman", aka Scott Shapiro. Scott had remained in touch since March, and really wanted our business. He said that if he received our paperwork and loan app he would get the pre-approval again. If that went well he would try to settle in three weeks. We were excited to have the word "hope" back in our vocabulary. Mr. Shapiro communicated with us regularly about our loan's processing status, and while the other guys were continuing to dilly dally processing the loan Scott became more and more confident that Regions could settle in only two weeks. What I learned in this process is that post-2008 meltdown it is critically important that you create and maintain a close relationship with your mortgage broker/contact. It is even more important that your mortgage broker/contact has a lot of experience and is tight with his/her processors to facilitate an expeditious approval. Also, while working with brokers is not necessarily a bad thing, we found that working with a direct lender like Regions made all the difference. Well, nine working days after we submitted our loan package to Scott "Superman" Shapiro and the mortgage professionals at Regions Bank the loan was fully approved. We closed the next day, on August 8th, ten days from start to finish. Truly amazing!!! The first company made our mortgage process a gut wrenching ordeal, and Scott truly saved the day. I can't say enough about Scott Shapiro, his professionalism, how accountable he is, how well he communicates and how he can execute a plan. His skills are truly exceptional, and I would recommend him and Regions Bank to ANYONE looking for a home loan.

At closing back in 2006 the mortgage lender never showed and at the time to sign (over 100 pages) we were shocked and stuck with another rate! Not recommended. I had entered into a rent-to-own agreement in November 2011 after receiving initial approval for a…read moreloan from a well-known bank in Decatur. My problem: I had to wait for three years to pass after the foreclosure on my previous home. When it came time to make the deal final, the well-known bank in Decatur, after having given me pre-approval, decided against final approval, which would have resulted in the loss of nearly $15K and would have necessitated moving without a chance to find worthy lodgings. The closing date had been changed from April 1 to April 15 to April 30 to May 7. The owner was adamant about no extensions after May 7, and I was in a real pickle. The realtor suggested Starkey Mortgage and asked whether I would mind if she had the well-known bank in Decatur forward my application to Starkey. I agreed. It was the BEST decision I could have made! Kim King, Mortgage Loan Officer, called me at home two days later on a Friday night, and we spoke for nearly two hours. She was so understanding and so friendly. She "got" my situation immediately and immediately offered hope. Kim spent that weekend going through my file and, come Monday, requested several documents, which I supplied. Saturday she called in the early evening to tell me that she had received initial approval via the automated system, but that final approval awaited. She was quite hopeful. Then I started dealing with Andrea Basilides, Senior Loan Processor. She was as pleasant, helpful, and professional as Kim had been. She requested proof of my monthly rent-to-own payments, and I provided them. Within two days, I was approved for my loan! Closing occurred May 9, only two days late for owner who was as happy as I at closing. In fact, in order to make this happen fast, Starkey allowed the realtor to obtain a closing lawyer to expedite the closing and faxed relevant documents to the lawyer that morning as we conducted the closing. I received several texts from both Kim and Andrea the days preceding and the day of the closing telling me what to expect. Closing costs were reasonable, and the monies I had to spend at closing were greatly lower than what I had expected. That allowed me to use funds to pay off several credit cards (but not close them), which frees up money that I can use to pay extra against my mortgage. Both Kim and Andrea have followed up with me to make sure everything went fine at the closing and that everything is going fine in my home. What wonderful ladies! I highly recommend Starkey Mortgage (Kennesaw branch). Kim King and Andrea Basilides do a superb job, care about their clients, and are angels in this world.
