The attendant asked if we were beginners, "was this your first time playing golf?" I was so surprised by this and said no, but it is my first time at this course. There was one person in our group who was newer to the sport and said she was a beginner. Then he announced to everyone "Sorry for the cart delay, they had a beginner." This experience put a blunt end to an otherwise great day of golf. We played at a good speed today. Partway through the front nine our twosome was asked to play with the twosome in front of us since we were waiting on them. Once we were grouped up we increased speed of play and maintained it. I think the course should look at their tee times and find our why they are short on carts. There was not a queue of groups waiting on us. Do not come here if you are looking for a fun experience, you will be met with employees with awful attitudes. And under no circumstances come here as a beginner because they do not think highly of them. Other places in the area, like Nonesuch, are much better equipped with emotional intelligence. If you do not care about being treated with respect, you might enjoy Willowdale because the holes were fun overall.

The owner wasn't there but an older man who lives in a house on the property let us know where to leave our green fee ($5, we left $10 for both of us) and get a scorecard. He even walked us to the first tee. The course itself is nice, very green, well maintained. The baskets could be better marked though, some were hard to find. The longest hole is 750 feet and let me tell you, it was epic. There was no one there when we went so we had the course to ourselves, which was nice. I could see it getting very cramped if there were more than 2 or 3 games going on at once. Finally there were scary hawk birds (picture!) and death mosquitoes that became imposing by hole 12, which became a deciding factor in our decision to call it quits after about 2 hours of playing.

We showed up and no one was at the booth, but we heard voices on the course and figured they could tell us how this worked. We were directed to were we could borrow discs from and off we went. Took us a little bit to figure out how to throw the disc, but we soon caught on. My son (9yrs old) and I had such a fun time that after we played 18 holes we grabbed something for dinner and returned with friends for yet another 18 holes. I should mention that when we finished the first 18 holes the owners were at the booth with an assortment of discs both new and used. My son and I both got a set of discs. We figured we'd both start off with a Driver and Putter. My son and I plan on becoming regulars at this course and we plan on introducing many of our friends to this sport. Fantastic activity and everyone we met on the course were so friendly and helpful to us. I certainly hope that all Disc Courses are like this. If not, we certainly found a gem at Boom Field. We've played mini golf at Schooner several times and always have a great time. The course is fun,…read morevery clean, and well maintained. We especially appreciate the umbrellas at each hole for shade. Our only complaint is that the flagsticks can sometimes make it harder for the ball to go into the hole. My favorite hole is the one where you hit your ball into the water and it comes out of a log. Overall, it's a great course, and we always enjoy coming back!

The venue does not only service seniors, but several organizations and groups in town, such as Rotary, whose work was instrumental in its construction. I was there for an organizational meeting and was impressed by the facility, which for a small town, it was quite comprehensive. The Community Center is used for many programs geared to seniors, as well as being available to other groups. The building is equipped with a full kitchen, restroom facilities, and a large room for social gatherings. It is also the source of supplying and delivering Meals-on Wheels to homebound and disabled senior citizens. Meals are prepared Monday - Friday Noontime meals are also served at the center every day Monday - Friday The Alton Senior Center has a Service Link Satellite Office in the building, offering referral services on matters relating to aging, chronic illness and disability, as well as a resource library allowing research on educational articles, pamphlets/brochures, and general internet access. The town of Alton is well served by this community center.
