I was a member at Vasa fitness for years and finally made the switch after I realized how lame Vasa is. The Provo Rec Center is always clean, the equipment works well and the environment is family friendly. I love that the monthly fee both my husband and I pay gets us into so many awesome classes and access to the pool, basketball courts, and so much more. This is a really beautiful gym. But most of the times during the evening it gets really packed. Even with that I would of given the Rec Center a higher score. However, the other evening I put my coat on the coat hooks at the gym and after my workout I walked over to put it on but someone had taken it. I went to the front desk they checked the lost and found. I swear the girl at the front desk some blonde pixie cut chick came back after she checked and said it wasn't there I asked her well what do we do next. She threw hands to side with her palms facing up and said oh well. Now this coat was given to me by my husband for Christmas $200 was spent on it so its not just oh well. I asked if they have incident reports and which a man came over and said no the best you can do is call the cops. Now i know the cops aren't going to hunt down my coat but the incident report should be part of there gym guidelines. So if other things are stolen you have a tracking of it to better improve standards at the gym for members safety. Not once did any of the three staff members say sorry or just try to help find it by looking around the gym. Even if they couldn't find it, it shows that they just care for the members by trying. I just moved to Utah from California and have never ever had someone take my stuff at a gym and I've also never had such bad customer service experience at a gym. Maybe you need a sign by the lockers and coat hooks letting people know to watch out or cameras pointing in the area of gym that holds members belongings. I have to say if it weren't for such bad customer service and lack of helpfulness I would of given the gym 4 stars because i can handle busy gyms but I cant handle unhelpful staff members who have no sense of urgency or realize how awful and violating it feels to have something stolen from you. read more

New and clean gym, except it's good for anything except working out. It's always so packed and not enough weights or equipment to actually to workout. Also, if you want to go back to school and have a dress code come to this gym. It's been a couple of times now that I've been asked to leave or change into one of their staff shirts because my shirt doesn't cover my WHOLE stomach. Like dude I'm wearing a full on long sleeve shirt and sorry my shirt is showing a little stomach while I'm trying to work out. I've left several times without finishing my workout, I've been to a lot of different gyms in Utah county and this is the first gym that's ever done this to me. We literally come here just for the pool, this has been one of the best recreational centers we have visited, my fouryear old myself and fiancé LOVEEE this place! I absolutely love that they let little ones go down the slides! And that they let a parent go with a child on the outdoor slides! The wave pool is super fun but needs bigger waves lol! I love that the lifeguards are not trashy and not too strict, they do their job and focus on everyone safety which is amazing without being rude while they do so, we have been here a lot and there's only been one girl who blows her whistle at literally anything and everything someone does which is so annoying, WISH I GOT HER NAME! The outdoor café has awesome prices for a quick bite! I also love the Grassfield area to watch a little ones play on the outdoors oh and I cannot forget to mention how much my son adored the indoor playground! read more

I LOOOOVE the Provo Rec Center. Every time I go, I wonder why I don't come more often. If I couldn't work out at BYU for free, I would definitely be here every single day. I'm an athlete and I usually hate the "family-friendly" places. Usually, that term means that there are kids running amok and equipment/pool lanes are being used indiscriminately with little structure. And this usually means that those who are serious about training can't get solid workouts in because they're dodging the family types. Not here. There are obvious family areas of the gym, including the incredible recreational pools that include water slides and a aquatic rock wall. Those areas are FUN for those who seek it. But there is also a wonderful competition pool (with water that is weirdly silky) for those that want to swim laps. The lifeguards are fantastic about enforcing which lanes are used for what, and where the faster and slower swimmers should go. Highschool teams, masters teams, water pool drop-ins, and swimming lessons are all done in the competition pool, yet the lanes are split very wisely so it never seems to feel too crowded. The rec center offers new, CLEAN gym equipment, as well as basketball, racquetball, volleyball, and tennis courts. And a track and spin room. And probably other things that I haven't discovered yet. You can reserve the courts for your own use or join in during drop-in times or tournaments. Apparently they also have tournaments for something called pickleball... I've never heard of it but I hear it's a blast. There are plenty of modified fitness classes, and the staff has always been incredibly helpful. I am always very pleased with the cleanliness of the locker rooms. I've never had a theft issue here, but those who do clearly aren't using any of the hundreds of available and spacious lockers. Just bring your own lock and you won't have a problem. Best public rec center I've ever been to. Not sure what "membership" involves, but a day pass for the pool is $5. The Provo rec is the best! The facilities are clean, the staff is friendly, the classes have great schedules and teachers. We use the day care, they are great with our kids. The indoor and out door pool are both clean and well kept. It's not full of a bunch of muscles heads. The equipment is kept up and there is usually plenty available. They have great events here for holidays and special occasions. It's super cheap for families compared to other gyms. My only complaint is that do not offer discounts for military families or foster families. This is a huge oversight in my opinion. read more

I've been going to the Provo Recreation Center since the day it opened and so far it's the best place to bring the family together. They have a very useful gym. There rarely is a broken machine. The machines are very clean and organized. There's also a competitive pool, a children's park pool, a leisure pool, a deep pool, a lazy river and a jacuzzi for the adults. All pools are very clean. There's also a basketball court, tennis court, and food court. Forgot you tennis ball/racket? Rent some out at the front desk! You can also play pool and ping pong! I can't say enough about how awesome this place is. I am a life-long vocal gym-hater. I have never found it motivating, nor even comfortable. For all of the inherent reasons, I simply have never appreciated "the gym." Provo Rec Center is different. It strongly fosters a family environment, with diverse activities, designated areas for specific sports (basketball, volleyball, handball/raquetball, etc.), a climbing wall, and well thought out pool areas on the main floor, and a wide variety of work out equipment and classes on the upper level. No one should feel excluded, or out of place here. Every existing body type frequents all aspects of PRC, and all are welcome and encouraged to work at their own pace. One of my favorite aspects of PRC is the track. The design is genious, and allows the walker/runner to be a spectator of all the goings-on of pretty much both levels. Attractive glass designs throughout. The track, however, seems to attract mindless social-gymmers walking in their mini-shirt hoards in the wrong direction, then when you nearly slam into them, look at you like you did something wrong. What is it with the people around here who can't seem to accept that others (and rules) exist? I've heard some complaints about the cleanliness of the areas and machines; but, PRC provides antibacterial wipes stations throughout the upper level for those using the equipment to use. I've never found them to be out, but there's typically a PRC staffer tending the desk that could easily provide more if that happens. It's up to every patron of this building to clean up after themselves in order to maintain an ideal environment for everyone. Rates here are reasonable, for the day, month, or year; singles or families. Accommodating open hours beginning at 5:00 a.m. til 10:00 p.m., Saturdays 7:00 a.m. til 8:00 p.m. My only complaint is that PRC is such a great addition to the Provo area that it's now crowded much of the time. Small sacrifice to use this state of the art building. We're regulars. read more

Employees not very helpful and suggested we buy a lock next time, even though a lock was not even offered or recommended at Check in even though the employees said that people get stuff stolen everyday. This place is awesome. I've belong to some awesome gyms, but this might be my favorite. It is huge and has so many different options to choose from. Four pools (two indoor and two outdoor - one is a lap pool and the other is a water park). Basketball courts, racquetball, rock climbing, spinning room, two fitness class rooms, huge weight lifting area and huge cardio area... and so much more. I go to use the machines/weights, take zumba classes (monday/wednesday nights at 7pm - best teacher! I feel like the women at the 8pm class are so pushy!), swim and just to hang out! It is a great place to take kids. They have daycare from 8am-1pm and 4pm-8 or 9 pm. There is also a public indoor/outdoor play area. Also, the inside and outside water park is awesome! I've only gone to the inside - they have a huge play area, slides, lazy river, two huge slides, rock climbing wall, etc. It can be crowded at times, so it best to go at a off time if you don't want to wait for a machine if you are doing cardio. They do have a indoor track so that is a good option too. I have so many good things to say about this place... check it out!! read more

This place is awesome! They have pretty much any and everything you can think of, from your standard gym, to pool tables, to a rock wall, and even a lazy river. I find this place very inviting, everyone I've met working out has been really nice. No big meat heads which makes it a comfortable environment for everyone to work out in. It really is a community center and you feel like part of the community here. I mostly use the Rec Center for weightlifting and doing cardio. They have several machines I hadn't seen before that have now become my favorite to use. I haven't noticed any out of order machines so it seems like the equipment is maintained well. The track upstairs is small but nice to have. My only complaint is that the hottub has too much chlorine in it and occasionally makes my eyes sting. Also, I wish it was a 24/7 gym but it is a rec center so the schedule makes sense. They are contracted with some apartment complexes and companies, so before you sign up ask if they are contracted with your employeer. My husband and I got a hefty discount because of my job. I'm excited for warmer weather so I can utilize the tennis courts and outdoor pool! read more

We love the Provo Rec Center pool! But you have to go at the right time of day otherwise it is way too crowded. We recommend weekdays right at noon. You are guaranteed a chair for your group and space in the pool. You can't take your own food and drinks in...but people do and I've never seen an employee ask a pool patron to put it away. There are concessions though if you want to buy snacks there. There are plenty of lifeguards on duty at one time. Which is comforting as the children tend to scatter in all directions. There is a large kids play area, wave pool, slides and an indoor pool with a lazy river and rock wall. read more

The Provo Recreation Center has so many state of the art amenities that are all kept very clean. A few of the amenities are the lap pool, indoor track, cycling & workout classes, other fitness equipment, indoor racquetball courts, basketball courts, etc. My husband and I bought the year long pass and loved it. There are definitely times when it get busy but we just tried to go at slower times to avoid the rush. A great feature the Rec has is that they have classes you can sign up for like art, baking, photography, etc. I took the Cake Decorating Class #1 and I loved it. I learned a ton from the 6 week long class and by the end of the class I baked my own 3 tiered cake and decorated it too. Overall, we loved the Rec center and I would recommend going to everyone especially during the summer when the outdoor pool opens! read more

Fantastic fun place. You will love it here. Three swimming pools. Free weights. Lots of new lifetime fitness workout machines. Recreation center. Snack bar. Friendly staff. Workout classes. And in case you are apprehensive about returning to a workout regimen because you think you are too out of shape, just come work out in the mornings and you will be just fine should you pass out or suffer a heart attack. When their outdoor pools are open it is almost a full blown water park on top of their recreation center. I couldn't believe how much fun I had as a adult there let alone if I were a kid. California reviewer here: Oh my gosh, you guys have a great value in this rec center. I paid like $50 to get in 12 people. For just the pool in this place you would pay $20 per person for a one day. Yes, the patrons are paler, and it is humid as a rainforest, but is that so wrong? So many pool attractions for toddlers and older kids. The lifeguards were the most attentive to situations I have seen. There was at least a half dozen empty racquetball courts, swim lanes and the upstairs gym was barely used. I really love coming here, the fitness classes are amazing. The instructors are super nice and know what they're doing! HOWEVER, the gym staff, are incredibly rude. They are almost all young adults and pretty much all of them I have encountered are the most rude and condescending employees. Only a select few are nice, but honestly the way the staff regards the guests turns me off of coming here. I would give this place five stars if it weren't for that. read more

This is just based on the pools at the rec center. VERY UNSAFE. As someone who has worked in aquatics for 8 years, I was appalled to see how unsafe the pools are. While I was there, the indoor children's area was without a lifeguard for 30 MINUTES. NO LIFEGUARD FOR 30 MINUTES. I even told a lifeguard after watching for 10 minutes. A guard came out and 5 minutes later the SUPERVISOR brought the lifeguard back inside. Her response to me was, "there aren't that many kids in that pool". THERE WERE 40, I COUNTED. (Regardless of if there is no one in a body of water, they HAVE to be watching it in case a child were to run in.) When I spoke to that girls supervisor, so I think the overall manager, she didn't seem concerned. DO NOT BRING CHILDREN HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE ONE ADULT PER CHILD TO WATCH THEM ON YOUR OWN. YOU CANNOT COUNT ON THOSE LIFEGUARDS. read more

We stopped here for a few hours to break up the driving on a CA to CO road trip on the suggestion of a friend and were really impressed! It's basically a small water park but for less than $20 for our family! Indoor and outdoor water slides, a lazy river, numerous pools and splash pads, water playgrounds, and a jumbo hot tub. They have lots of lockers (bring your own lock or buy one for $5), room to lay out in the shade or sun, and large family changing rooms. The staff was really friendly and helpfully suggested where we should go for dinner and the cheapest place to fill our gas tank. If we were staying longer we would have tried the exercise equipment and basketball court as it looked like there's a full service gym too! read more

I love my gym. I've written a review before, but man, they are really great. We go all the time...and I think they've earned a 5-star review. The machine that they have upstairs to measure your weight, bmi, muslce percentage, body fat percentage, etc. is literally the best!! It has been super helpful and informative, especially with my new year's goals. It's not about what you weigh/what you look like, it's about being healthy. I feel like that is a part of coming to the rec center and I love that. read more

The Provo Rec Center has everything, I don't even live in Provo and I find myself there at least once a month! The gym facilities are passable, free weights and everything you need to get a solid workout - the elliptical machines are freaking amazing as well, and the indoor track is also excellent! But it's the water areas where this place really shines, and the price is amazing - 5 bucks for a day pass, and the monthly rates aren't too bad either - I'm not presently a member, I just pay for day passes when I go, but I'm strongly considering switching. The waterparks stuff is fantastic, and I've never even used the multiple water slides (they look great, but I have a toddler, we just splash and play on the water play structures :) ). Amazing place, wish I lived closer to it to go more often. read more

Awesome amenities. We tried this place out and bought a pass immediately after. Part of it was because it was a little expensive without a pass, but overall fairly satisfied. The equipment is all top notch and can usually find a spot. The app is a nice touch since classes tend to fill up so you can book your spot a week in advance. I do wish they would add a few classes, only 3 spin classes a day when they have a full spin studio just sitting there. The pool is what caught our eye since our little girl loves to swim, although the rules/lifeguards seem a little paranoid that adults can't take their kids on the big toy/slides (I'm not a large person) and they are pretty strict on what type of flotation devices you can use (we were told we couldn't have our baby in her Otteroo even though we were holding on to her the entire time). But overall a great place for families! read more

I was a guest paying weekly customer until today. The front desk assistant would not allow one of us to go through the gate because he forgot his mask. (makes sense). I asked very kindly if we could get a disposable mask, which at this point in the pandemic, everyone is giving them away at no charge. We were told no, you have to pay for it, $2. So we paid. Not very happy about it but oh well if that's policy. On our way out I so happen to see a very similar situation but this time it was a member who forgot his mask. The same guy who made us pay, gave the gentlemen a disposable mask no problem. I'm so happy I saw that as it raised eyebrows. I know it's $2 but I called him out on it because it seemed very unfair. He knew he was wrong of course and came up with a bunch of excuses. As a guest paying visitor, I did not appreciate it at all. I will be taking my money elsewhere from this point forward. Treat everyone who comes through doors the same please. Guest or member, doesn't matter! read more

Staff do nothing about frequent theft here. The only thing they're good at is taking your money. Cameras aren't anywhere near shelving provided to hold stuff while working out. Lockers in locker room are garbage. Had stuff stolen from them TWICE. Charge too much for the poor security they provide. read more
