I began coming to Proximus in the spring of 2014 and have not left since . Before coming to Proximus I worked out at a local gym and an all woman fitness studio. After 6 long months of that schedule I had enough and realized that there was only so much I could learn and do at those two places. So together with my friend Danielle we made the choice to move away from that routine and try crossfit. Every single question ran through my mind in regards to crossfit and they were quickly answered. I learned proper form and I began to see real results , I started to get stronger and my confidence grew. Throughout the years here I have greatly appreciated the guidance and support of Coach Sam. I first wanted to start out by saying I have only been going to this gym for about 2 months now and Proximus has already giving me so much.. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Proximus through a friend and have been hooked ever since. I am from Ventura and I choose to drive out to Santa Paula because I know that this is the best strength and conditioning gym around. The workouts are challenge but always rewarding and not only does coach Sam encourage you and motivate you throughout the whole workout, the people who go to this gym are also so motivating and uplifting giving you the strength to always push harder. Proximus crossfit is a family like community!!! I was introduced to crossfit 3.5 years ago through another gym in Ventura county and got hooked on the sport!!! But I hadn't been going for the last 2 years. I decided to join back up in January when I moved out to Santa Paula. Proximus was recommended to me from a couple of friends and so I showed up and met coach Sam Ruiz. Sam is an amazing coach!!! I have not only gotten stronger since I was crossfitting when I first started but now at the age of 35, I am stronger than I was when I played college baseball. I never thought in my life I would be able to lift/squat more than 50lbs. When I joined Proximus I was honestly scared, but everyone was so welcoming and couch Sam was patient, encouraging and so knowledgeable! Everyone here is so positive and encouraging and I really enjoy the friendly competition but love how everyone pushes each other and how couch Sam never gives up on you. I also like how there are people with different fitness levels and couch Sam really emphasis the importance of proper technique. He will modify exercise to the level of fitness for the individual and there is always room to grow as he continues to help people meet their individual goals. I have been crossfitting for 3 consistent months now and have never been more surprised with myself. Proximus Crossfit is a great place for anyone and everyone. You DO NOT need any experience to participate, it is just all up to you if you think you can handle it or not, because Coach Sam really emphasis on technique, form as well as going at your own pace. The coach/owner Sam Ruiz is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to teach each technique until you understand it and encourages you the whole time. I have been a customer and member since April 2014. I wasn't exactly excited to go but went because my husband really wanted to try it. I have been hooked ever since! Coach Sam got me in shape before I became pregnant, kept me fit and did a great job of modifying the exercises for me during my pregnancy, and thanks to his help and encouragement, I'm in great shape again post baby! I have never been part of a place that will make you push your self to the limit of your capabilities and make you feel good about it. Sam is the best trainer you will ever come across. He has the patience to help you modify if you can't do what he asks or he will make sure your doing it right so you don't injure your self. I love working out at Proximus when I Come home. I started Proximus around three years ago before I moved away to college and even now I stop by Proximus when I can. The Environement and members are so welcoming and encouraging when I come home . Every time I come back to Proximus I have a list of new techniques and things I need help with. I joined Proximus about 6 months ago not knowing what to expect. I can say from the first day more than anything I was a little scared. Scared of not being as strong as everyone else in class, or as fit. But overtime i saw that it doesn't matter if its your first month or first year - Coach Sam makes sure everyone is getting the best workout for them.
