I am a student of Eastern and finally graduated. This was no easy feat, and took me a bit longer…read morethan anticipated, but I did it. I started here as a full time student living on campus in the dorms immediately after high school with a meal plan and no car. I didn't finish my degree with 2 classes left and joined the workforce. Eventually, years later I returned to complete my schooling and finally graduated. I will list what I know as a young high school student, and as an adult commuting, since I have experience in both situations. Eastern has plenty of housing available throughout campus for people who need it. They have a nice student union where you can sit and study, eat or hang out if you have a large gap of time between classes. As a returning student, I found it reasonably easy to navigate my way back into campus with doing all the paperwork and readmitting myself. The process was easy and simple, but should be done far in advance so you can get into the classes that you need. Don't do this the day before. Instructors were qualified and accessible. Some are harder than others, some have book and materials required for class, some do not. It really depends on your program and how far along you are in your degree. This is life. Each major is different, but this is college, so different things are to be expected. Eastern has a really great online program that allows students to submit assignments and read lectures (depending on the professor) online via their website. It's easy to navigate, and made commuting so much easier. I didn't have to attend class in person twice a week like I did back in the day. It's called a hybrid program. you show up for one class and the other half of the class is online, allowing you to do assignments from home. Each instructor and major is different and there are some classes that you must show up for in person and have very little online involvement. Others are heavier on the in class work, and lighter with the online stuff. It really depends on the instructor and what your major is. I loved the hybrid format, since it meant I didn't have to show up as much, and could do stuff from home. The downside to Eastern is the parking situation. It has become very expensive and because the school contracted it out to a private outside company. This is causing a huge uproar on campus, and people are getting parking tickets that should not. Now, all of the pay lots are automated and if you don't have a charge card or debit card, you are not going to get out. It used to be a $1.50 an hour. Not anymore. I think it's a $5 flat fee per hour or whatnot regardless of how long you are there. Also, the parking hang tags here are absurdly expensive. I don't know how any of the students can afford to park who have cars full time on campus. Back when I was a student, they had different "levels" of parking tags. The most expensive one was for full time students who either lived on campus with a car, or commuted full time during the day with a full class load. They were there the most money. Then they had part time tags, for people who were only there like 2 days a week, and the cheapest was the evening students who came in for night classes. Now, they don't care if you are taking one night class or live full time on campus. It's $165 a semester to park, regardless. I was on campus once a week for one class, and it would have still been $165. For one stinking class, once a week! They offer a shuttle that you can park off campus and come into school on, but that adds about 30 minutes to your commute, since you have to park at the football stadium, and get dropped off at their designated points, then walk to your building. That runs $30, but they keep raising the prices on those as well/ My only other complaint is that sometimes dealing with administrative stuff here outside of the classroom can be frustrating and drag on. Staff is readily accessible, but some are easier to deal with than others. For example, my graduation auditor was a wicked crotch who was miserable to deal with. But, my program advisers were awesome and easy to reach. Aside from my graduation auditor, I was always able to get stuff accomplished, even if it wasn't on the timeline I preferred. Overall I loved Eastern, and it was worth the stress of getting my degree. They made it easy as a young high school student and as a working adult who commuted. Thank you Eastern, you really let me get my degree done, and made it worth it, even with the few setbacks I had.

They have college professors from Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan, and other nearby colleges. They do a great job preparing you for the larger universities! When I started there there was no LGBT Resource Center. However, by the time I left I had helped to establish one and it was growing by leaps and bounds by the time I graduated and quickly headed for its own room/office! It was a very loving and welcoming atmosphere, and a little ahead of their time, with some of the services and options they offer their students.They are very well equipped for a community college!

The continental breakfast is a must if you're in need of those services. The freshest fruit, well seasoned red potatoes, crispy bacon, pastries , yogurt with additional toppings. The staff set up a beautiful breakfast bar and stood by to assist in whatever way we needed. The restrooms were clean, plenty of stalls and easily assessable.

We were at their convocation center (799 N.Hewitt) for a high school graduation. There was ample…read moreparking for those who arrived early, but those who came later had to park pretty far away. To start, the entry into the center was disorganized and security was a mess. They did try to screen everyone with their metal detectors and use guards to dig through bags. This process took forever and it was pouring outside so people were getting totally drenched outside. The wait to get inside was over 30 minutes long and it was horrible trying to get in. Once inside it's chaos, you don't know where you are at until you are inside and it's a battle for seats. The AV and lights were fine, but once the ceremony was over they walked all the kids into the rain and were not let back into find their families . None of them had umbrellas because they were walked out immediately in caps and gowns and formal wear. Everyone's formal clothes were ruined. We were drenched trying to find our group and it was a total nightmare. The security guards were rude and obnoxious, they didn't let the kids go back to find their families and it was cold, dark and pouring. There were senior citizens with walkers and canes getting pushed over trying to get in and out of the building and yelled at by the security. Parents who had to get the car couldn't find their kids or go back in. The whole place was poorly lit. It was a severe thunderstorm out with heavy downfall. They had zero crowd management skills what so ever. I would not recommend renting this place for events unless they can get their crowd management situation and think about what the customer experience should be. What a way to ruin an important family and child's milestone by having the graduation ceremony at this place.

It is a small, picturesque 197-acre campus perched above the Huron River that runs through Ann Arbor. The chapel has a unique pyramid design with walls of stained glass within it and an immense pipe organ that you have to see to believe. The 1960s campus resembles a park and sits in the heart of the Lutheran Synod of Michigan. Entering after the CoVID, it seems like a quiet, relaxed atmosphere on campus. I like that they consistently tie their lessons to the Lutheran Faith. The online curriculum is not perfect and allowed me to build on skills that I was already familiar with and tried to steer me towards what I needed for my career. I think with the onset of the pandemic, they like most schools were negatively affected. I am currently working towards a Master's degree here online. Make sure to look into possible scholarships and aid to save money. I am giving it 3 stars because I have always been an adult student at this school and in Wisconsin. I cannot judge extracurricular activities and athletics. They do have a strong music program and do concerts on the banks of the river at times. Very nice. Not only did these kids bust there ass to get where they are, but they're in the mists of studying and doing clinics to now have to worry where there next semester will be. They had to take your ridiculous religion classes that does nothing for them to transfer out but to create more debt. Beyond upset parent! On top of it we found out they are cutting a bunch of sports so her boyfriend received the same email after being there for 2 years so now he has to find a college.

I find the student population diverse, widely employed, hard working, young adults who are deeply concerned about academic performance. EMU provides a wealth of resources to support students as well as professional development to faculty and staff in ways that enrich. The campus is easily absorbed by the local community. Loyal Ypsilanti residents often have strong EMU ties as well. Walkable is doable and parking not too bad. My favorite part is the library and related resources which proactively offer support to students, instructors, departments. Professional development workshops are often available and worthwhile. I've taken a few. Recent Administrative behavior around social and racial unrest is most controversial element of current campus climate and worth watching.

Jeffrey Kortman, Shalonda Casanova, and two Resident Advisors have chosen to lie and punish the victim along with the aggressor, simply because they did not want to take the time to complete a proper investigation. Even when told there are recordings of the events complained about, they still chose to ignore it. The worst thing you can feel as a parent from hundreds of miles away, is that you cannot protect your child and those put in the position to help, do nothing. STAY AWAY FROM EMU!!!
