We love our veterinarian dr Eckhardt and her wonderful staff! She is kind, compassionate, and truly cares about our little dog, Gia. I especially appreciate that she does not overmedicate or recommend unnecessary treatments. Her prices are fair and reasonable, and I never feel overcharged. Would take my cat here regularly, during the last check up we noticed he was behaving differently and reported it to the vet, they said he was just being picky with his food. He passed of late stage heart failure not 2 months later. Also, when we received his medical records for insurance purposes, they were sparse and obviously not accurate or thorough. They refused to give them to me though, our insurance had to get them. California law requires vets to give owners a summary of medical records that includes history, treatment, and medications. None were included (Under 16 CCR § 2032.3). read more

The vet is caring and reasonably priced- if you can get in. Many people have reported that they don't answer the phone or call back, and they still have only 1 line so it is busy with fax all the time. The real problem though is the rude, uncaring desk staff. When my pharmacist complained that they didn't send a refill request they refused to deal with them- so for two years I had to go monthly to a pharmacy 1/2 hour out of my way. When I complained the desk person cancelled my dogs appointment without telling me and said they would not allow us there anymore. Others posted that this happened to them also. Something fishy going on, and VERY unprofessional! They didn't care that my dog would be out of meds, lied and said they had no appointments (they did) and that they couldn't give a refill (they did). Many online complaints and pet owners having to go elsewhere because they're so difficult. Not worth the trouble! read more

I have called the answering service for 3 days to speak with Dena. And I assume you are not getting your messages as I have not had a call back. Your clerk is extremely UNREASONABLE when I discussed my late appt. With her. She would not let me speak with you. And as we were on our way, she said we'd have to be fined as we would be over 10 minutes late. Your staff is ruining your practice. Many other posts have complained about your help and agree with my opinion. Please call me if you read this. You are an excellent vet, but your help is turning clients away. read more

We had to change vets as ours retired after being with him for 39 years. Our two male Frenchies needed some tune up and a friend recommended this practice. A very pleasant woman answered the phone, said they were accepting new patients, and explained the preadvance payment per dog in case we did not show up. Fully refundable with the future visit costs. (It was.) We were early and walked our dogs in the grassy area. We met the vet techs as they came to work and each of them was pleasant. When the appointment time came, a tech opened the locked and came outside for a signature. We were then shown into the small waiting room (we didn't) and directed straight into the consult room. Both vet techs we met fauned over our two dogs. The vet herself was tremendous! She knew her stuff (we've had dogs for the last 40 years). Very nice indivudual. The techs quickly clipped toenails and dew claws. Everything about this visit was well-orchestrated by experienced professionals. What a great practice! read more

Unfortunately my experience was not great. I took my dog in to get neutered which took three months to get an appointment. I was quoted a lower price over the phone than it was when I paid. No biggie, I paid them because I had waited so long to get in. The surgery went fine but when my dog came out he had no cone on or any protection. I asked if he needed one and was told to buy my own at a pet store. They didn't provide any pain meds and when I brought my dog home he was whimpering and couldn't find a comfortable position to lay down in and it broke my heart. I didn't receive any discharge paperwork besides an invoice. I received verbal directions but it was a lot of information. I called the next day and was very polite in my questioning. I asked if I needed to bring him back to get his stitches removed, as I didn't remember being told any info on that. I asked maybe in the future they could provide written instructions along with the invoice on what to expect, keeping it clean, stitches info, and how to make my dog comfortable without pain meds. I was told "if you needed to come back in to have the stitches removed we would have told you that. We don't provide written instructions so feel free to take your own notes next time." I was shocked at how cold and rude the woman was on the phone. She made it crystal clear I was annoying her with my questions. Really really disappointing. I paid them almost 500 bucks and they couldn't provide a cone or discharge paperwork and I was treated like an idiot. I'm sad because I really wanted this place to be one of the few clinics that haven't been taken over by corporations and kept it neighborly. Unfortunately the receptionist was mean, cold and had zero empathy. These are our pets. They are family. We love them. There's no reason to be so rude. I really like Dena and the vet techs there but man, that woman at the front desk is the entire reason I will find a different clinic. From reading other reviews it seems I am not the only person who feels this way. read more

Been a loyal customer for 5 years with four animals had an appointment on Saturday and was treated with such disrespect by staff. We barely made it out of the car when the assistant immediately started to shout and say we owed $100 fee for missed appointments. We were unaware of the appointments and had no problem paying their fee but there was no need for the yelling and degrading behavior shown by this employee. Worst place to take your loved pet. Recently took my pitty for a check up on a thursday weeks after her brother passed away and my girl(to make a long story short) had a fatty sack that was draining and the tissue was coming out so took her in on a tuesday dropped(day 4 of the tissue sticking out started to scab over some) off my dog in the Am, 3 o clock comes around and they never called me i had to call them as i was concerned. The gal in the office had let me know oh yea penny(my girl) is ready for pick up so i was there in 5 minutes as i arrived they bring me my dog out n let me know they pushed the tissue that was coming out back in and sewed glued and stapled her shut. 1 week later to take out staple says my dog is completely health no issues beside what i already know (her being on the older side with past surguries.I am writing this balling my eyes out i took my girl to a VCA clinic for a second opinion , with in that last 2 weeks from recovering from Denas office My Girl has cancer/ a huge tumor in her stomach that was near the area the tissue was shoved back in........... Worst place to go to if you need care for older dogs. My pitty is like my daughter. I have to say my goodbyes tomorrow. Im sure this could have been prevented if she had really cared about the patient. Will never take any animal to her or refer anyone to this office sadly doesnt even devserve 1 star read more

love this place, but I am leaving. The reason being I can never get through when I call, always busy line. I now know why. I just called and was placed on hold for 12 min. I called the intake line to tell them I was on hold and spoke to Caroline who told me they are very busy and didn't have enough staff working, she was frantic as usual. since I'm on hold no other calls can get through, they will get a busy for the whole time I was on hold. I think they have overbooked clients and I know why, they are a great Dr. and team. I will be looking for a new vet because I waste a lot of time trying to get through. I was emailed because I kept getting a busy and the reply was not to ask for appts. by email. I laughed - they at least answered my email. Great place just overbooked or not enough staff. I cancelled my appt. for my little guy to get his allergy injection. I'm sad and disappointed. read more

A year ago we switched vets from a Salinas practice (which we will not mention) and so far driving to Prunedale is not at all inconvenient. The location is easy to get to off US101 and behind the busier Prunedale Shopping Center. Our first encounter was excellent, the staff and doctor very personable and attentive to our small dog's needs. They kept us informed on medications, diet, etc. and recommended ways to keep rx costs to a minimum. Additionally after each appointment they had us - the pet family - make our own informed decision based on their diagnosis - no pressure. Unfortunately we recently made the painful decision to say goodbye to our pet and not prolong the indignity of her condition. The staff made the experience a little easier with their sympathy, giving us time and space to process our loss. We've been through other pet losses but none have had such heartfelt care for the pet and/or the pet family than Prunedale Vet. Because of the overall experience we'll continue to use them for our other beloved pets and highly recommend them to others! read more

Obviously I don't write many reviews here, but I had to go online after taking my cat to Prunedale Vet and having such a great experience. We are suffering a flea infestation and our lovely kitty had a bad allergic reaction to the fleas he is carrying. Dr. Dena gave him the expected treatment (cortisone shot for the irritation, plus a Comfortis tablet to kill the fleas), but what made the experience special is her kindness and sense of humor. She was extremely gentle with the cat and he didn't even seem to notice the injection. I know she has been practicing locally for quite a while, and she has a great sense for what will work and what doesn't. She quickly reviewed the medical records I brought in, and didn't order any unnecessary tests or try to push expensive products at us. And like a previous reviewer said, her assistant is also very friendly and energetic. Plus, we were seen exactly at appointment time and not kept waiting in a room with other animals. Vet seems nice. Had issues with them getting to return messages and also approve orders for flea and tick and heartguard meds. I like to buy in bulk. They just kept canceling. When I called and got through the person was totally indifferent. Changed to vet off of hwy 68. Was able to get a year supply of heartworm preventative for each dog and 6 months of flea and tick meds. They also have employees answer the phone and not an answering service. My pet that had surgery at this clinic and at some point had contracted an infection and had a lot of trouble healing, I repeatedly brought her back to have them fix it, they just kept doing an awful job with the staples and telling me that she did not have an infection and that it infact was normal for her skin to rot and fall off.. I took her somewhere else and the new place said that she did in fact have a multidrug resistant infection. I spend multiple weeks with these people and my pet was doing worse and worse. I spent one week with somebody else and my fury guy was healed and back to normal. These people will kill your animals or atleast let them miserably die before running a simple lab on them, do not take your fury loved ones there! read more

My pets and I love this office! Dr. D and the entire staff are so caring. I've never seen my dog so at ease during an exam. Dr. Dena gives them allllll the scratches and loves while checking on your pup's condition. Took our dogs in for well checks, mine needed meds for diabetic, said he looked "remarkably well for a duabetic", sold meds, two weeks later he was dying. I called and called and couldn't get a hold of anyone to help me either get him well or assist his crossing. Already had a much needed appointment for second dog to remove a tumor, they put us out 5 weeks,asked to move it up because it was growing exponentially, told they couldn't. Took her in had it removed. Doc never came out to speak with us only young tech showing me half the tumor in a med container and telling me it was large (yea,like I said, we tried to get in much sooner), no one ever called for follow up EVER, she began trembling and seeming unwell. When we went in to have stitches removed IN THE PARKING LOT and I told the tech...no doctor still...tech said take benadryl probably allergies, she died several days later in misery and suffering. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN !!!! Dr. Dena has been our family vet for 21 years. She has seen our dogs to guinea to rabbits. I live a mile from her office so she is the closest pet vet we have in an emergency. Scott's valley was our next option & we could not wait that long our rabbit was suffering. & yesterday was a HUGE EMERGENCY and huge mistake! My rabbit was dying in my arms as we were speaking to the nurse. Me & my mom couldn't even talk because we were crying so hard. The nurse did NOT have one feeling in her body to help us. As my rabbit was trying so hard to breath. She told us " yes the dr has seen rabbits in the past but not now " so you're telling me that dr dena CANT put our rabbit out of her misery because SHE DOESNT WANT TO ?!?!? What kind of veterinarian are you if you will let an animal suffer right in front of your eyes ? This office will never ever see one of our pets again because we were under the impression that this vet cared about our pets. Guess not. She will never handle one of our pets again. read more

I've had a great experience each time I've taken my pets for treatment to Dr. Dena. I used to be resistant to going to the vet due to poor care at previous places, but not anymore. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat that need her for their care. The "new" assistant is much better at front deck customer service, very friendly and energetic. (I say new because she wasn't there about 3 years ago). Also Dr. Dena has an assistant that is very good with animals. This is very important when making sure your pet is calm and happy while the doctor has to administer medicine, etc. Dr. Dena has done all my pets vaccinations, evaluations and treatments for different problems, and spade one of my dogs. The reason I choose Prunedale Veterinary Service over all other vets I've been too is because Dr. Dena really seems to love my pets and treats them like her own. She also tries to save you money if possible, which not all vets care about! She is also non judgmental. One time I saw fleas on my outside livestock guardian dog and she was respectful and understanding, never once did I feel negative feelings from her! She is better than even my own medical doctors!!! I just can't say enough good things about her and my fur babies are in good hands with her! read more
