Love Dr. Sugg but unfortunately the office staff is terrible. And it's ok for patient to wait for an hour

I went to a lot of effort to get this appointment. first it took over a week to have my insurance verified. I called the office 2X before. The 3rd call she it was verified. Before I could make my appointment I had to pay for my first visit. I went to Psychiatry South today to pay so I could make my first appointment. I filled out my paperwork when I was there. One of the pages of the paperwork wants you to to sign that you read understand HIPAA. I was not given the information for HIPAA. "I was told don't you know what HIPAA is?"When I got home the lady from the office called telling me I needed to send them my medical records prior to my first appointment. When I asked why I was not told this sooner. she told me that she told me on the phone. I was not told this. I also ask her why I was not told that today in person when I was there? I know I wasn't told this because I saw my internist after I talked with her on the phone all three times! I would have gotten my records at my last visit. read more

The doctors at this office are excellent, but the front desk staff make the experience not worth the time or money. Their attitude is unprofessional and even confrontational; they have yelled at me for simply asking questions. Additionally, they charge fees for every little administrative task, including releasing my own medical records and even just to consider signing ESA paperwork, which is unheard of. They also appear to lack understanding of ESA guidelines, mistakenly telling me that special training is required for an ESA, which is incorrect. You also have to come on a specific day and time to have your medical records released to you which is ridiculous. I am now looking for a new provider solely due to the front desk staff's behavior and policies. read more

My office/front desk experience on October 21, 2024, left something to be desired. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was late (beyond the grace period) . I was unable to reschedule for later that same day, I was rescheduled for October 23, 2024. My issue is not with the scheduling/rescheduling, it's their office procedure. My issue is that on October 21st, I was rescheduled by a Caucasian woman who failed to remind me of the cancel/missed appointment charge fee, etc. policy. While experiencing the circumstances beyond my control that day, I realized there was a missed appt fee and decided to continue to my appt because it was the date of my appt and cancelling would incur a late fee. Again, I was under the impression I was within the grace period. Next issue, upon arriving for my rescheduled October 23rd appointment, I checked in, paid my co-pay to a Caucasian woman and sat down. A few moments, to my surprise, I was summoned back to the front reception window. A Black woman then DEMANDED I pay the $75 missed appointment fee and I did. My issue isn't the fee, my problem is that I was RACIALLY PROFILED. I say RACIALLY PROFILED, because I believe the Black employee was called in to enforce and collect the cancel fee from me, a Black female. I find that disturbing because I interacted with not one but two Caucasian employees who FAILED to simply ask for the fee, apparently because I'm a Black female and angry. Not the case at all. I believe the two Caucasian women were unprofessional in not requesting the fee from me. The Administrator of this office makes it impossible to benefit from the doctor's services. They have great psychiatrists but unfortunately, I think they are unaware of how the office is being managed. The staff says that Kristin Watkins owns the practice, but she owns her own consulting llc. It's called Nemeth consults llc. It's so sad to think how many patients are continuing to be used for copays. Lots of eye rolling and rude comments from front desk. This office has more negative reviews on yelp and google than I have seen for any other psychiatry office. read more

the Doctor I see is amazing and the other medical professionals are great, but the front office staff is TERRIBLE. Not sure why the office manager is so rude to everyone but she will treat you like crap! she doesn't see you as a patient or even a customer... she see's you as a nuisance. I paid my 80.00 to schedule, waited for whenever the next available was and had hope. I was referred for help after a suicidal attempt. Initially I was pleased with Dr. Steele as being very kind and helpful. I had no comparison, because I had never needed help, at 61 years old now. A few weeks ago I needed to schedule my appointment with Dr. Steele, and cancel an appointment with a nurse practitioner. I called and was scolded by a Maranda who answered in scheduling, She further continued to be rude and argumentative refusing to schedule my appointment for when my doctor would be back from vacation, she insisted I talk to the administrator, then kicked me out to the selection line, with me begging her to be kind and just schedule the appointment. So, in leaving the message to the administrator, guess what her name was? Maranda, yea, and she lied saying I said I would get me another doctor...the message I left was sadly being thankful for Dr. Steele and saying I never wanted to have to get a psychiatrist or have to take medications, pleadings for help. Maranda -- without my doctor's permission she cancelled me as a patient. I left several messages begging for an investigation, with no replies from anyone. So, after a few weeks I received a letter from my doctor stating I was no longer a patient. This is demeaning and horrible treatment for people who need help, I hope you as a patient needing help will get better treatment. I was very pleased at the beginning with my treatment . However, the nurse that assists Dr Sugg is abrupt , interfering, and less than helpful. I doubt she even sends the messages to the doctor. I pay $210 out of pocket every 3 months and it's for two prescriptions , one of which he would not refill because of a minor increase in my blood pressure. 120 over 80 is pretty normal and my BP was around 137 over 90. He would not refill my medication so I'm going to another psychiatrist! He ask me to keep a log of my blood pressure but then backed out and said that I need to clearance for my PCP . I don't have health ​insurance through my law firm,so I can't get that clearance. TERRIBLE!! I was a client with them, and they are all about money, avoiding clients and not providing quality services. They do NOT care about the clients AT ALL! They ran my flexible spending card and didn't make sure I received a receipt. I called, no one returned my call. They lie a lot as well. Too bad that zero is not an option. After being a patient here 11 years and was discharged recently saying I'm non compliant! This office has harassed, disrespected, screamed at me 8n the parking lot calling me a psychiatric diagnosis I don't even have! Should have left 2 years ago when this harassment started. What I did to piss them off I do not know. As a retired medical professional I would Never treat a patient (especially in a psychiatric office) the way I've been treated. Have Sat in car with heat in 100°with car running, would not let me come in and had to pay copay that insurance says I should not have to pay. I have Medicare and Tricare and Never have a copay anywhere else. So get your credit card ready. Dr Jones helped me so much when I first started after devastating event. The office help never treated me like this until 2-3 years ago. I've mentioned it to Dr Jones a couple of times. Did she know beforehand? I don't know but she seemed the same during the brief visit. Honestly have been thinking of leaving because of this Gestapo office. What other poor patients get treated like this who are not able to stand up for themselves as I can . Unbelievable, unprofessional, inhumane. Whomever owns this practice should be appalled at this and obviously it's not just me. It's not about money as my account was paid, $150 and it's my fault for brain fog and missing appointment last time but I called the same day when I realized it however, I understand it is inconsiderate and I have missed a couple times this year. DO NOT GO HERE. Dr. Austin treated me for TWO appointments. I am an out of pocket patient, so my charges were clearly discussed and paid for up front. After my SECOND visit, I received a $250 bill in the mail for the urinalysis at my first appointment. I tried to reach this office FOR 60 DAYS...which ended up making me miss my follow up appointment and come off my medication cold turkey. I continued to try and reach the office to get the billing taken care of, and I even PHYSICALLY went to the office and presented a letter for the doctor and some information regarding having my out of pocket fees lowered. I advised the office to contact me with any fee changes. I continued to try and contact them regarding how much my follow up appointment would be, seeing as I ended up paying $500 for the first visit because of their incompetence. I only received a call to confirm an appointment, which I cancelled and told them I would not be back. This is now 90 days this has been going on. I get a letter in the mail telling me I have been non compliant and I'm being terminated as a patient. That's fine because I didn't plan on going back. BUT ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? This office has been 100% unreachable and unprofessional from Day #1. I receive a letter on Sept 13th dated Aug 28th. I have been to over 10 psychiatrists all over the state during college/post college. I have also worked as a medical professional for 10 years. My experience here was horrific- I went with them originally because they were the only local office taking new patients but I am telling you absolutely do not waste your time or money here. Honestly my experience with my actual Doc was alright, but the admin staff and billing staff were so extremely rude and difficult to work with. They refused to work with my insurance even though I was referred to them by my insurance company and I confirmed that they billed directly with them. When I showed proof of this they still refused and charged me OOP- It took over 3 months for me to prove to them that they did in fact bill directly with my insurance company, and another 2 months just to get them to do it. When they finally reimbursed me they never returned the correct amount and dodged all emails requesting itemized receipts showing why. Billing is offsite, has no direct email or phone contact, and would take 30+ days to respond to my messages within the portal every single time. When the admin staff gets frustrated with your questions or billing issues, they will delete your username out of the system so that you can no longer access your portal (I know it sounds ridiculous, but this happened 3 different times over the 2 years I was there). This was a nightmare experience and I am so happy to have changed providers and found excellent and easy care elsewhere! read more

Our experience with this practice and staff has been absolutely horrendous. Having a child, who has aged out of her pediatric ADHD specialist to have to deal with these people is totally unacceptable and unprofessional. The only thing consistent with this practice is their invoices. They don't answer the phones, The office manager is rude and will hang up on you. then they have the nerve to say they are discharging you as a patient. They treated my child like she was some drug dealer or addict for requesting to follow the regimen her pediatric physician had her on because it worked for her. Office staff is very rude and condescending, specifically Karen. I spoke with this not-so-nice woman this morning regarding billing issues. She was very nasty and sarcastic! I was simply trying to get clarification on my bill but this woman was acting like I owed HER money! The bill was only for a no-show fee! She was indignant and unprofessional. I had to wait about three years to find a psychiatrist and was glad to find this group of mental health professionals, but in the end it was a traumatizing experience. When I started visiting this place, my first visit was canceled after awaiting for a month to get that appointment, then my second visit was canceled and I had to wait another month to start seeing the psychiatrist. They canceled a third time, and I learned about it when I showed up for the appointment and they said they called me to reschedule but I really had not message from them on my phone. I lost it at that moment and told them that I was suffering from depression and anxiety and I felt like jumping off a bridge and I had no time to wait for another month. The receptionist talked to another psychiatrist different from the one kept cancelling (Dr. Austin) and this new psychiatrist (Dr. R. Jones) skipped her lunch break to see me that day. This psychiatrist was a good person and professional (Dr. Rebecca Jones). I saw her for over 4 years and my experience was good even though the office staff was not that great. The problem I had with them was about four months ago, when I received a bill for about $75 dollars that was incorrect. I called to see what that bill was about and the person on the hone said that I missed some appointments via video and they were billing me for that. I told them that in a few occasions they had a technical problem and I could not connect for an appointment, but I called their office to let them know about the technical problem they had and they helped me reschedule another appointment. I stated that even my psychiatrist (Dr. Jones) noticed the technical problems and there were two instances where she ended up calling me on my cellphone because there were technical issues. The person on the phone did not want any explanation and just wanted me to pay the $75 dollars. Then I said I needed to speak to a supervisor and she refused to transfer me and told me I needed to pay the bill and ended the call. I called a second time right after that and someone transferred me to the voicemail of the office manager, who was someone by the name of Kristen or Kristy, and I left the message asking to call her to call me back. When I did get a call back, I called their office a third time and they transferred my call, but I got again the office manager's voicemail. This time I did not leave a message and decided to call immediately a fourth time and this time the person who answered was the person that told me to pay the bill and did not allowed to speak to a supervisor when I called the first time about the $75 dollars. She was angry that I called many times about my issue. I told her that I would not pay the $75 dollars because this bill is was not right and I did not even get a chance to speak to a supervisor. During this conversation, it was when she said something that gave me the impression that she was the office manager. I told her that I would not pay the bill if they did not look carefully into this matter and that my psychiatrist could attest to the fact that there were issues with their telehealth service (video). I said that if they did not look at least in to the matter I was not going to pay that bill. Then, she said that their clinic would cut ties with me and would discharge me. I was chocked and then I said I wanted to speak to my doctor (Dr. Jones). She said she would not allow that and that she was discharging me and they would send me a 30-day supply of my medication to my pharmacy. After hearing that, I asked her for her name and then she pretended she could not hear me over the phone. She started saying "Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson! Yoo-hoo! Yoo-hoo!" and she ended the call. By the way, they never gave me the 30-day supply for my medications. I was so chocked by this. What I experienced was very unprofessional. That is how I lost my psychiatrist in a instant and was left with only the medication I already had on hand (about one month of medication). After that I had problems finding a psychiatrist that would take my insurance and ran out of my medication. When my medication was gone, I ended up with a mental health crisis that sent me to the ER. I've had a horrible experience with this practice. Went for an initial appointment which went well. Dr. Suggs told me he would have my prescription called in by the end of the next day. But the pharmacy never received the prescription. I called the office and no one returned my call. It's now been over two weeks and still no one has returned my call and my prescription has not been called in. Last week my wife went onto the practice's Facebook page hoping to get someone to respond. The response I received was a very threatening call from the practice stating if my wife did not take down her post, they would fire me as a patient. No need. This is not a practice I would ever wish to be associated with again. I have many choices and I would never choose to be treated in this way by a "service provider." I've come to this place several times with my mom who is the patient. I am medically released to receive and review her information. Shawntae, Shante, Chante, however her name is spelled is the most rude, unprofessional, inefficient office "manager" I've ever encountered. I simply asked her smart-aleck, childish self why my mom had to fill out another release when I KNOW factually she has one on file from the medical provider because we have worked with them for 7 months, and she refused to answer me. Then when I asked for her last name, she refused to give it. Doctors take an oath to do no harm, and this is a place of supposed mental wellness and health. I urged my mom to find another practice because I'm not sure how this place is still open with such a rude front face of these doctors. As I stated to her, SHE IS HORRIBLE, and if she can't professionally provide customer service she is the last person that needs to service patients. Clearly the doctors only look at their good reviews and respond, but they need to take heed to several patients whom continue to say how rude their staff is. I wish it was further reporting to be done to stop medical personnel from treating people like outright trash. In addition, they don't respond timely anytime my mother calls. She pays for them to send paperwork, and they don't do it in a timely manner, which then affects her ability to be paid and therefore LIVE. If people that come in here don't matter, everyone here needs to find something more meaningful to do, because treating people like this, will come back to hurt you all in the end. read more

After playing phone tag for a couple of weeks, I finally was able to schedule an appointment. I waited a month for the appointment, took off work, and drove 20 minutes out of my way to get to the office to find out the person I was scheduled to see wasn't going to be in the office for the next 2 weeks. The office staff just kind of laughed it off and offered to reschedule my appointment for a few weeks later which I declined. I have already been given the run around prior to my appointment then find out the doctor wasn't even in the office on my scheduled appointment and nobody tried to notify me to let me know. Why would I want to reschedule and have to worry about not being able to reach someone by calling the office or having to worry about the doctor not showing up on the day of my appointment???? Ridiculous. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I am just thankful my issues aren't serious because psychiatric help is not something to play around about but apparently they seem to think it is.
