This place is hypocritical to say the least! When first calling them,…read morethey assured me they would tailor make my therapy and home exercises to my needs. Low and behold, their therapy and home exercises come from their computer program which is not at all individualized. My therapist, Maggie, picked and chose what exercises she would give me to do at home and which ones she would not. Also, on days I told her I was in pain did not stop her from having me do exerting exercises with many repetitions and hold times. I always got more sore after the therapy sessions and into the following day. Finally, I was forced to quit further therapy after just 4 sessions as I felt no improvement from the therapy sessions and home exercises. Maggie said it usually takes 4-6 weeks of therapy sessions to evaluate progress or lack thereof. Why oh why would I proceed with my therapy sessions and daily home exercises if both have not helped with my low back pain which has not at all gotten better if not worse? All in all I was not at all pleased with this place and my therapist and would never come back nor recommend them to anyone.

The patients do most of the exercises themselves with barely any assistance from the staff. The supposedly certified physical therapists here spend more time schmoozing patients than actually doing their jobs. When the therapists aren't pretending to work, they dump all of their tasks onto their assistants who bounce between the patients and answering the telephone. Even worse, this location tried to ruthlessly over-bill my insurance company $450 an hour without even mentioning a $50 an hour co-pay. Athletico is just another crooked business operating in Illinois that tries to ripoff insurance companies and their patients. Don't bother complaining to their corporate office because they are in on the scam too.

I called the office at Higgins. The woman I spoke with verified the date was entered incorrectly and told me the bill was wrong. She said my insurance covered everything based on a contact with Athletico and my employment. I told her I did not want to continue receiving services if the cost was $165 per hour session. She assured me it was not and I owed nothing. I preceded with the rest of the recommended sessions. I received a bill for $1200. I called billing department 3x's and waiting on hold for 15-20 min each time. They gave me the run around and said they'd call me back. They never did. I called them back and they said my bill was as stated. Disappointed they were not upfront with this at the beginning. Do not trust them. Check and verify through your insurance before accepting services. Scam.
