At it's core HIPAA is NOT a privacy law as it is most commonly understood, but is actually a portability law. It grants you the right to take your records from place to place without being charged. Oak Mill charged my husband $25 per child (we have 3) for our records. The office is required to give you an electronic copy FREE OF CHARGE. If the provider only maintains paper records you can be charged up to $6.50 for labor. If the doctors records are electronic you cannot be charged whether you request an electronic or paper copy. We asked for our money back, but they would not refund us. Unfortunately we will be reporting the violation to HHS. Beyond this experience, my husband was turned away to be seen as a walkin for my son who was in need of a refill prescription (his medication requires hand written prescriptions). Because of their limited office hours of every other Saturday and being turned away on Monday, my son was not able to have the medication he needed for 4 days and we had to call him out of school so he could have an appointment the following day. This impacted our entire weekends plans and affected his normal school schedule. This practice is not patient centered, and I'm so glad our insurance has changed so we can go back to our prior doctor. I'm very disappointed.

When I went down a rabbit hole of trying to find a phone number for our children's pediatrician, Dr. Paul Toussaint in Park Ridge, I went though the phone prompts and selected billing 5x. I did not have my guarantor number because I NEVER RECEIVED the bill. It told me to hit '*' and then '#' if I did not know the number. Every time I did that (5x) it hung up on me. When I called the office, the receptionists told me that I need to talk to billing. I told them that I CAN'T because the number is unreachable. I told them that I'm calling the president of the system. This is unbelieveable. Get in the year 2001 for heaven's sake.

They are able to do away with ALL the things that give parents (especially new parents) a headache when dealing with pediatrician offices. On top of that, the medical care is high quality and you feel that the doctors know your children as individuals. . The things I appreciate most so far: -NO wait. You are walked back to your appointment room immediately upon arrival. -NO calling and being on hold. You can message the front desk or your doctor at any time. -The first few newborn visits are at home so no schlepping around your infant in a car seat while you are trying to recover. -parking is so convenient. Plenty of street parking right in front of the door. -extremely responsive and communicative -you don't feel rushed. The staff and doctor know your kids as an individual. - you don't have to go in for every little thing since you can communicate and get questions answered over the phone. She is always responsive and available no matter the hour. She is the most well networked doctor I've ever met. My daughter needed to see a plastic surgeon for a birthmark removal and I had trouble getting an appointment. Dr. Weems called the surgeon directly and I had an appointment the next day. I have many more stories like this highlighting the ways she's saved us. Best investment and decision we've made! We only have the best things to say!

Weems has no privileges at suburban hospitals, and has no relationships with any specialist and no ability to get you in any sooner than if you cold called on your own. Most recently, she ghosted us when we asked for post-surgical pain meds for our 11 year-old who had a laceration so deep the tendons in her hand were visible. Ghosted! You can get equivalent or better care at an urgent care clinic from a non-doctor. without having to spend thousands per year for nothing. Not a "concierge" doctor at all, save your money.

When I called to do so, o found out that apparently someone had keyed in my birthdate incorrectly when we were there, so the guarantor number on the bill didn't match, and thus I couldn't pay. And apparently they wanted me to come in to fix it! When I called patient relations, somehow they were able to manage this via email and phone (or at least I hope so). Ridiculous.
