I was a customer of this facility for 8 years. A guy was heading it as the manager who was not a people person with an attitude. My rate was always going up. When I asked him why I was paying double what a new tenant pays he told me this was not a long term facility. So, I packed up my 3 units and left. I am updating my review to reflect my past experience with this business location: This is my complaint regarding the inferior quality of your online payment system & the lack of quality customer service from your staff at: My so called "auto-payment" constantly disappears & I am inconvenienced to set it up again. It seems like a scam to me to have the auto-payments disappear and charge late fees! When I try to call them (this location), they do not answer nor do they return my messages. I have to drive our here to find someone. They say the return everyone's call at the end of the day... Yet my calls somehow disappeared. Their explanation is their system tries the payment once, and if that fails, it deletes the auto-payment. This is the only business that my auto-payments fail! The phone, cable, electrical, cellular, school etc etc all seem to work out just fine. read more

I am more than a little baffled. I am moving and so I need a storage unit. I went online and reserve a unit here at this Public Storage located at 2940 NE 188th Street, Aventura, FL. I made the reservation and as soon as I clicked confirm I received a telephone call making an appointment for 5:pm. The lady said they close at 6 and already have a 5:30 move in so the only appointment is at 5:00pm. I accepted and drove here from Cutler Bay. Upon arrival at 4:59pm the lights were turned off. I peaked inside and saw a lady sitting behind the desk. She saw me, grabbed some bags and went to unlock the door. (I thought she was waiting on me as I had an appointment confirmed.). She came out the door, locked it and looked at me and said what do you want. I stated I am Mr Benson and I have a 5:00 pm appointment which was confirmed verbally. She said not by me, by the other lady and she was supposed to have called you. (Stated while walking to her car). I said no one called me. She said oh well. We close at 5 and I'm leaving. I said I have a confirmed appointment. Then she said it and it really floored me. She said, "Go back to where you came from. We don't rent to Queers like you. Destroying America. To which I replied, F you you f-ing racist bigot. Are you kidding me? She started her car flipped me off and drive away. I am really not sure how my sexuality entered into the scene. This is a horrible company. Greedy, and lack customer support. The people that work there are nice enough but if you need to resolve any issues with anyone higher up, good luck. They won't even call you back, they send you directly to collection giving you no choice but to pay even though they were in the wrong. Not the way to run a company in my opinion. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! Pros: The staff is very nice. Cons: They work for a greedy, corrupt, capitalistic company whose CEO must lack a soul! If you must rent here, do not buy their insurance! It's a scam! Buy your own insurance policy BEFORE you show up with your stuff. They will not pay you when someone steals from you! I've been renting here for 3 years. My storage unit was recently burglarized; a number of items went missing. MY LOCK WAS NOT BROKEN OFF! BUT MANY ITEMS ARE MISSING! Because I've been paying for insurance that I was told that I had to have at the time I moved in, I filed a claim with the insurance company. Needless to say that their insurance is a SCAM!!! The goal is to get as many consumers to buy coverage, only to deny claims when something happens. Their reasoning for denying my claim is that there is no proof of forced entry! No, my lock wasn't broken off but clearly some really savvy thieves found their way inside. It could've been the mesh ceiling or wall! In my case, it is believed that the tenant next door to me removed the screws from the adjoining wall, then took just some of my things in hopes that I wouldn't notice and put the wall back. The district manager sawed the lock off the neighboring unit and went inside with police officers and detectives to see that the screws in that unit were mixed and matched. Some were even missing. The wall was also somewhat misaligned. The renter had virtually nothing in there, which proves he uses his lawful access to the facility to steal from other tenants. Because I am missing two big luggage sets, that wall seems to be the way that that particular tenant was able to take them, along with other things. Two of the items that I am missing were placed in the unit on April 17th. They were gone by May 2nd. When the employees of Public Storage reviewed his access history, it was found out that the man who rents the unit next door had been there several times and spent an hour or more in the facility. The security footage from the parking lot shows him leaving with nothing at all after staying there over an hour. Another video shows him putting several things in his car. However, the surveillance video is so poor, especially compared to the technology that currently exists, that we couldn't make out the items that he was piling up into his car. Since his personal lock has been sawed off and he's been locked out of the unit, that tenant has not been back to fight his case. This speaks volumes about his guilt. How is it that he'd been there regularly in the past, but now he's missing in action? Weeks have gone by and the same lock that was was placed on his unit by management is still there. What makes matters worst is that when the city of NBV police arrived on the scene, they noticed that their unit, which is on the other side of my old unit had been burglarized also! The wires ceiling above their units was cut open. The staff told the officers that they didn't know how long their ceiling was cut open like that! So they don't even check regularly! When they moved me to a new unit to make me feel more comfortable, the one they gave me had a wired ceiling that was already busted open! I rejected it! The ugly truth is that THERE IS NO WAY TO REALLY SECURE YOUR ITEMS HERE! Don't let their big display of cameras in the office make you feel safe! The only security cameras are outside in the parking lot, and there's one facing the elevator doors on the ground floor. There are no security cameras in the elevator or on the floors of the facility--which makes it super easy for people to get in there and pick through people's things without ever being caught. There's even possibility of violent attacks without proof! The insurance company wouldn't even except footage of me dropping items off just weeks before as proof! Employees will insist that you have to have insurance at the time of move-in when that's clearly not the case! It's a lie. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY THEIR INSURANCE SCAM! "There's no proof of forced entry" is the reason cited for denying my claim. Yet, there's no way to prove it other than the wall of the neighboring unit and the fact that my stuff is gone. "Why would he put the wall back in place" is the question my claims manager Michele Natale of Sedgwick Claims in Portland asked me. She said it sarcastically as if I were a fool to think that criminals out there are smart enough to try to cover his or her tracks. Clearly, this is what has happened. Why wouldn't he try to make himself look innocent is my question! He's rented there since 2012, with nothing in his unit! Of course he's going to cover his tracks! She denied my claim based on her personal opinions and because her employer instructs her to so. But I have a feeling that they would've denied my claim even if both my locks were broken and lying on the floor! In fact, I know that's what would've happened. They would've said I had faulty locks or something! Just idiots! read more

I am pretty sure that the other two 5 star reviews are plants. This place is clean, but that's where it all ends! Not only do they charge a fortune to store there, but they will raise your rates substantially on every anniversary. Try to talk to someone in upper management about it, and you will be run in circles and never get a phone call returned. District managers should be ashamed of their communication skills in terms of returning customers phone calls. read more

These people are thieves. They increased the rent without notifying me. They smile to you at the beginning of signing up the lease; then they are mean and unfriendly. You go to the property to talk to them, and most of the time they are not there. Even their customer service team (over the phone) are mean.
