After a snow fall, this location did not plow the property and it was full of ice where my unit was so I called several times since I came by transit. No one responded or came to check out the property. My friend who was helping me, fell twice which is on video tape yet still nothing from this company. I am outraged by this and will not use them after I finally move my stuff. They could not maintain the property for anyone's safety but has no problem taking your money. read more

The have continued to increase their pricing dramatically almost doubled in the past 2 years. They have changed out all of the locks and did not bother to make a key available. We have no key for a storage unit we are paying for and unable to have access to our items in storage. We scheduled an appointment to meet with the "property manager" and I use that term loosely. It started with the first customer service rep reserving this location in the first place. If I could tale away 1/2 of a star just for that I would. Then after telling customer service how much stuff I had, I arrived at a small unit. I called the number on my reservation, couldn't get through. (My son and I left the unit) The only way I could get someone to physically talk to, I had to select the prompt to buy a unit. I told the rep my issue then was transferred to customer service to switch my unit to a larger one. Keep in mind, my son and I were eating breakfast at a nearby restaurant while trying to get this issue resolved. My reservation was finally switched to a different unit. My son and I returned to the property, put the un-opened lock back into the small unit, went to larger unit but a lock was on the gate already! After finally getting the number to the "manager", I spoke to a rude assistant or kiosk rep, bc a person is not at this location btw. I told her I needed to be in the unit but couldn't get into it bc a lock was on it already. I had to wait for a call back from the manager. I called customer service to cancel. Her tone and the fact that I didn't like location, did not help. I reserved at a closer location. The one I originally wanted to be at in the first place. The manager called back and said she saw the lock and can get it removed. I said don't worry about it, I already canceled the entire reservation. She asked when I would be moving out the unit. I told her I never moved in because it was locked. She said I would still be charged for the unit. By the time she called me back I already called customer service to request a refund. I told her I would not be charged bc I already spoke to customer service about a refund. They transferred me to a unit that was not cleared and vacant like the second customer service rep assumed it was. It looks like they don't pay attention to the property to know when to clear out or auction abandoned units. I ended up at a climate controlled location across the street from me like I wanted in the first place. Now, I wait for my refund on the unwanted location! read more

Ok but they're unethical, if you rent online, they make you pay for a lock, if you went online, you have no choice. There's hardly anybody ever there. It was a holiday where we got there, and now they're telling us because the lock was used even for a day. They can't return take it back. We made several attempts to return this lock. Avoid this place. There are plenty of storage options in Charlotte. This should not be one of them. The staff are difficult to reach, unprofessional, and lazy. I was accused of disposing items into a dumpster and subsequently charged a several-hundred dollar 'fee'. Not only was the accusation entirely false (as I never disposed of anything in any dumpster), and the routes I am still currently taking to remove the fee unacceptable and arduous (and possibly fruitless - time will tell), it is even possible the charge is some kind of attempt to exhaust me into paying an unjust fee applied to my account by an indolent and/or inept employee that I (and apparently others within the Public Storage community) are incapable of reaching. If this issue gets resolved, I may change my review (although it is not likely to turn positive). After all, I remain hopeful there is someone employed by Public Storage that has the appropriate level of competence and authority to resolve this ridiculous problem. Regardless, I am unlikely to ever work with this company again. Yes, this South Blvd location is particularly pathetic (and I stress again - avoid it), but I am unconvinced this location is an outlier. I encourage others to shop for better options. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. Setting up an account and getting my keys was actually fine but returning them to avoid getting charged is a nightmare. I went twice during business hours, no one was there. I made an appointment (also in business hours), still no one showed up. I called and left 4 messages, not a single one has been returned to this day. After speaking to about 10 different people they finally got someone to the location only for her to say 'it's not my fault'. Absolutely no accountability or compensation. When I was able to speak to customer service she said she couldnt compensate me in any way since my account is now closed. So essentially they will do anything in their power to avoid you and take your money. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else read more

The worst service i have ever experienced at a storage facility. Reserved my first unit that said it was climate controlled online, yet once we got there it was in fact not. After that we were switched to this location at 4555 South Blvd in Charlotte. We arrived only to find that there were no carts on the property so we weren't even able to move anything. The front desk lady was rude and unhelpful. We asked for a refund and we would go elsewhere, she told me no refunds so I am out now. $80 from these two facilities. Do NOT go here unless everything you want to store is able to be carried easily. read more

If I could give them zero or negative stars, I would. I moved out of my unit over a month ago and canceled my account. At least I thought I did. They have not closed my account. They are still charging me rent. I made a mistake and left the lock, but they will not cut it off. They lied about reaching out to me. I have to contact them at least once a day. Every time I have to explain what is happening, because they do not communicate well or keep accurate records. Is this how they treat everyone? No wonder they have negative reviews and class action lawsuits.All I want is to close my account. It should not take over a month. This is unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. read more

This place is quite simply terrible. If you need to store in Charlotte go elsewhere. I stored with them for two years and in that time the rate doubled. Furthermore, when I finally went to clear out my storage unit, I called before to make sure I understood the close out process. The woman stated I simply needed to clear out the unit and leave it tidy. I did that and they sent me an email confirming my account was closed out. A week later they charge me for another month even though I had already cleared out the unit. I called the store to try and sort out the issue and the customer service/store manager was sassy, rude, and unprofessional. Overall terrible experience. Not impressed, since day 1! Staff is unprofessional, had a work order put in for 3 months to have my light fixed and when I went to ask about it, they said oh do you have a bulb I can try to fix it... why should I supply a bulb?? The gate is ALWAYS not working, the garbage is overflowing and the units smell. Plus my rate was increased and I was not informed. An employee called me one day and said hi I'm just making sure you didn't move out, someone said they were you and moving out... umm no. And no one ever answers the phone at the location. BEWARE OF BLACK MOLD. The website for 4329 South Blvd location falsely advertises "climate controlled units" and we found out the hard way this past weekend when our indoor unit (attached to the main office) had SEVERE black mold on our belongings. We had even purchased the mattress protector bag from Public Storage and had an additional moisture and bed bug protector underneath. We asked the District Manager for $5 back each month that we paid extra for climate control (totaling $50) and were told to submit a claim through insurance. He flat out told us they do not have climate control, even though they made us pay for it. Insurance is a joke as mold is only covered up to $250 with $100 deductible and we are now out a $2000 mattress/box spring, Uhaul costs to move to a different storage facility and the hassle of dealing with the horrible insurance company they use. Filing BBB claim and getting a lawyer. DO NOT STORE AT THIS FACILITY! read more

A-OK in my book. I was looking for a simple storage unit to store some things for work and these guys were the first to pop up close to my place in Dilworth. Really not far at all and easy to find. The service was utterly friendly and, honestly, couldn't have been nicer...I mean...come on. It's a storage unit and annoying paperwork. Not exciting at all, but the woman behind the counter was rather friendly. Easy enough to get in and out of, too. They give you a personalized code for the gate, you can pull up to your unit, etc. Prices are fair, annoying that you have to purchase insurance, and the doors require certain locks. Willing to play ball with all of that? This place will be a breeze for you, too, then. read more

I am giving this storage facility a 5 star rating based on several things. I had Excellent customer service from a lady named Monica who was very helpful and understanding over how stressful moving was. She made my experience quick and efficient because I was on a very short time frame. All the storage units are on ground level and outside which makes it very easy to load and unload. Also there is a high security fence that you get your own individual pass code to. Overall, my experience was refreshing and I would certainly rent a storage unit from this location again!!! DO NOT RENT from this company. Not only was this the worst experience I've had with a storage rental, it's the worst experience I've ever had with a business, period. Customer service is horrendous; It's impossible to get someone on the phone and when you finally do they are largely unhelpful. I was consistently being referred to the district manager, Richard, who after repeated phone calls and messages (over the course of multiple weeks) never found the time to answer or call me back. Additionally, contacting customer service online is a huge waste of time as you will only receive prewritten responses that don't even apply to you. To top it off, when I went to move my things out of the unit I found them water damaged and infested with bugs. I was informed there was a flood in the building weeks ago but they weren't sure which units were affected. They contacted those they were certain had water damage.... As for the remaining units- "they had to wait until people moved their things out to determine the extent of the damage." It seems to me that the responsible thing would have been to contact all the units so people could come check on their stuff but of course that's asking too much. Again, worst experience I've ever had with a business. They have no regard for their customers and it shows. I will never be using public storage again and I highly recommend staying away from them as I can almost guarantee you will be disappointed with your service. read more

Rented a storage unit for one year. Packed up belongings after I sold my home. Roof had leaked water causing damage to several boxes. Lots of water damage to electronics and mold damage to several boxes containing my clothes. End result was five thousand dollars in damage. Public Storage did not care at all about the damage. No apology, no help in assisting me with resolving the issue. They just handed me a piece of paper with a phone number of their insurance company. You would figure that since you are required to use their insurance company to 'cover' damages, they would at least help you with the process. I remind you, that the renter will be billed each month for this insurance coverage. Called their insurance company, Perfect Solution Later I'm contacted by a company called Sedgewick. Not sure who they are or what service they provide. I send in all documentation and details to process the claim including detailed photos. After 2.5 months, I finally get a call from Sedgewick telling that they have processed the claim and I will receive $380 for the $5000 in damages. Sounds like a racket to me. read more

This is my second time renting storage space from this location. I received excellent customer service from Katie when I came in to rent the space. I like that they offer drive up, garage door type space. It makes it so easy to unload and load stuff. My only negative would be that the facility is not accessible 24/7, but that is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. read more

The move in couldn't have been easier! Friendly customer service--the front office staff called twice prior to my move in to confirm my reservation and provide details on how I should prepare for move in, and the lady was patient as I read through my entire lease and asked questions before signing. The required insurance is, sadly, an unnecessary ripoff and only covers absolute catastrophes (keep reading for additional details on this point). The price of my unit increased without either warning or explanation approximately 5 months into my lease, which was annoying. The move-out also turned into a bit of a pain--with what felt like absolutely zero communication (especially in comparison to the move in). My movers noticed immediately that some of my boxes were damp and pointed out to me visible evidence that water had been leaking into the unit; several of my books and one of my throw pillows had water damage, and at least one kitchen device will need to be thrown out due to having rusted while in storage. Also be forewarned: Go to the front office as SOON as all of your belongings are out of the unit--even if you're on a tight schedule and it means making any movers you may have hired wait for a few extra minutes. Read the lease carefully: If you pop back into the property for even 2 minutes on the first day of the month because the front office is closed for a holiday and you want to ensure you didn't leave something behind, you will be charged for an entire month's rent and insurance premium--for nothing. After calling to confirm that all of my belongings were out of the unit, I was told (rather curtly) that I would be listed as 'Vacated' from the property; however, my account still shows that my next payment is due in a month! Finally, I'm pretty irate that I've had to purchase Raid Roach spray and roach traps to set throughout my new apartment. As I began unpacking, I noticed several roaches scurry out of my boxes, and I've been finding roaches here and there in my apartment (which was treated for pests 1 hour prior to my move in) over the past two days since I began unpacking. It's unfortunate that the property is not better maintained! Rent here at your own risk! read more
