I've had the worst experience with U-Haul with my Ubox. Ever since I've got the box I've gotten mixed information, I've been unable to access the box because where it was stored was a tire shop that never answered the phone and had limited hours and every time I called to speak to someone no one had clear answers. Do better! I also called and asked for a manager to call me because I've been so unhappy with my experience that was about a week ago and I have yet to receive a call. Very unprofessional and lastly my Unbox was suppose to be picked up today which I paid for the month and they didn't pick it up because apparently they thought it didn't need to be stored and also didn't plan on refunding me like seriously? It's funny how it's almost exactly four years later and now we're moving my daughter back to Charlotte. The U-Haul small box truck that I picked up in Little Rock Arkansas and dropped here at the franchise in Charlotte was super easy. This time, a smaller truck and a two-wheel tow dolly with the car on it. No problems at all with the truck or the tow. The same lack of features hasn't changed. It would have been awesome to have cruise control but there was plenty of cup-holder space and a three-prong outlet on the dashboard for powering electronics. Other than not wanting to go any faster than 60 miles per hour, it was completely easy to drive. It was just barely comfortable, leg-room wise, for me at 6' tall. Someone much taller than that would not go well. Dropping off was easy. Pull up to the spot, take a few pictures for documentation, hand over the keys, then call for my Uber to the airport. U-Haul - UHaul truck for the long drive - Towing Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

Let me start off by saying that moving is probably one of the worst things and I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Now that that is out of the way, moving is pretty much unavoidable, so it's nice to have resources available to make the whole process (somewhat) easier. Recently used U-Haul to reserve a 9' van to move the "big" items from my condo to a house. It was pretty easy to reserve everything online for the day and time slot I wanted it. Some careful planning and calculations made, I estimated the mileage to be about 20 miles (two round trips) and made it back to U-haul with 19 miles added to the odometer. Had the reservation for 4hrs (2pm-6pm)... probably my only mistake since it was summer and 90 degrees, but I didn't want to do it too early and also didn't want to eat into the night time where the drop off would have been late. It was a super easy pick up. Ms. Alicia took care of checking me in. I had already checked in online (taking a photo of my driver's license - front and back) and getting it into their system. I was the only person picking up around 1:50pm and she made sure I had everything I needed and she walked me out to the space where the van was waiting. Keys in hand, proceeded to my condo to load up the couch and a few other items we could tetris in while having a larger vehicle. Was able to return the van at 3:30pm and the folks handling the returns were super nice, even though I think I came at the same time as 4-5 other folks, so they were busy moving vehicles, but were still super professional. I got an email in about 15min with the final total of the rental. Easy. Peasy. Maybe it's just me, but the night before the u-haul rental, I had already taken apart what I needed, and had everything lined up so it was just a matter of getting the rental, loading it, and moving.... well oiled machine. I almost made it a game to see how fast I could return the van rental within the 4hr window. read more

I began my career as a fine artist in Charlotte, North Carolina on a shoestring budget roughly 7 years ago. As my work began to grow in notoriety, it likewise grew in size and scale. They always had plenty in their fleet. With the help of team members, I learn to utilize their in-store materials to keep my art safe and to make a great presentation. The stretchable shrink wrap was perfect for protecting large pieces of art and their frames. When I showed up in prestigious venues, the way my work was wrapped and protected, spoke volumes about the value to potential buyers. The staff there is very friendly, and at Keith's leadership, this location became my go to whenever I needed to transport, art, or anything else. I live in Connecticut now with my family, but I still have exhibitions in the Charlotte area and I would not use in the other service then this particular U-Haul. For me, U-Haul has been the household name and go-to for rentals since I was a kid. Nobody ever mentioned those other companies like Budget or Ryder. Maybe they're just not big in NC. For me it was a natural choice when I wanted a hitch and a trailer rental to go straight here. I had my hitch installed about a year ago at a different U-Haul location. I got it to put a bike rack on. It's really the sturdiest option for any bike rack on any car and it's the least likely to leave your car with scratched paint (compared to those rack you put onto your trunk with hooks and straps. This time I needed to get the ball to tow a trailer and, of course, the trailer itself. The rental was cheap - just $15 a day. The cheapest insurance option is just $8 a day and covers up to $5,000 in damage. For me it was perfect. So, a trailer rental out the door for $23+tax. Turns out, after I'd signed the rental agreement the guys at the shop noticed I didn't have any wiring on my car for lights. Apparently, if you tell them at the time of hitch install that you're only planning to use it for a bike rack they won't bother installing the wires. Turned out to be no big deal. They worked me in for wiring install. That, unfortunately, was $130 without tax. It's possible I'm sure to do it yourself or somewhere else for a lot less but I had no other choice and I was on a time crunch. Everything finished up and I got a hitch ball and trailer on my car. It was the first time for me to tow a trailer so it was a bit stressful. The staff don't seem too bothered by a "noob" taking a trailer out without ever having done so before. So, with great hesitation, I asked "...so am I good to go?" they said "yes" and I was off. Back home I loaded up my motorcycle on the open-top trailer. The back end lays down to become a ramp. The grate on it is tough and very easy to grip with a proper pair of shoes. Getting the bike on and tied down was a breeze. Never had any problems with the trailer other than it bouncing around and being generally loud when I ran it over holes in the road. After dropping the bike off at the shop I promptly returned the trailer to the shop. They will "pro-rate" the rental cost if you bring it back early so don't worry too much if you overestimate the amount of time you need it. All in all, not a bad deal. I will certainly consider them again for an upcoming move I'll be doing. read more

This location has been great the couple of times my family and I have used them over the past couple of years. This is the closest UHaul location to my, but we have always felt confident in using their services. Any vehicle pick up and drop off has gone smoothly and staff has been friendly and helpful. This September, I picked up a truck and car towing dolly and had to swap out the truck (and re-attach the dolly) in the same afternoon during what seemed like a pretty busy day for this location. Everyone was very helpful and kind, they made sure that I had what I needed, showed me what I needed to know about the dolly, and never made me feel ridiculous for swapping trucks. read more

Facility / waiting area is clean. They have lots of boxes, trailers and uhaul trucks on the lot. They offer self storage too. Came here to get our UHaul installed towing harness checked out, because the signals and break light was not working. Disclosure: hey had installed at a different location (Fayetteville, NC). We have had problems with the harness from day-1, but not like this. Thank goodness we had the 2yr warranty with it. Keith the towing tech here at this location quickly helped us out. He initially fixed the problem, but before we pulled our personal trailer out onto the street he made us aware that our signals were crossed (no pun intended) we backed up the truck up quickly and he checked it out further. It's a hot Saturday and I am miserable, hats off to Keith of assisting and trouble shooting the wiring job, he didn't initially do. We caught him right as he was about to head out. Horrific experience. From start to finish. First off, I spent an hour trying to check in to my Uhaul. Part of the reason is that my mobile check-in was not working. When I went to ask on of the center representatives for help, he just handed me the keys. The truck was in the wrong spot. Once I returned the U-Haul two hours early, I received my receipt. However, almost four hours after receiving my receipt from checking the U-Haul in, I received an accident report for a dent that I did not make. I went back to fix the issue and it is still unresolved. The general manager was not helpful when I asked how the issue could be resolved. For some odd reason, he kept mentioning how good it was that I had the coverage for the random dent that could not be explained. I asked for cameras and documentation to show who else rented the truck, but nothing was provided. This will unfortunately have to be an ongoing issue. Moral of the story, be careful with this location. I have since read several reviews stating that they were overcharged for one thing or another. Seems to be a habit at this location. If you do not want to be scammed out of your money, then I suggest choosing a different U-Haul location. read more

Best service that I've ever received at any U-Haul. I hate it took me this long to write and acknowledge the young men working the bay area/return the truck. These guys get 5 stars because they went above and beyond to unhook my hitch. Would not take a cash tip. I forgot his name but he has really long dredlocks and I was more worried about him getting his hair dirty than he was as he thoughtfully considered and crafted a way to get the truck and hitch separated. I'll write more once I swing back by and get names so I can use this same review to write the company to highlight something I have rarely, if ever, witnessed at U-Haul: (1) someone who cares and shows it; (2) cordial and eager to help; (3) inventive and expeditious in their work. read more

We have moved with u-haul multiple times before and have used this location once before with no problems. We setup for their largest truck to be picked up on a Saturday morning in April. There was no problem with pickup, but the guy at the customer service desk was extremely hard to understand, soft spoken and talked too fast. Here is where they lose 4 stars: our truck had no working brake lights. We check things like damage to the truck beforehand, but not mechanics, which should be checked by u-haul. Not only did they put us in danger, but those that drove behind us!! We did not notice until we had made it to unload at our new house. Luckily we don't have to move again, but let this be a note to check everything! read more

Worst customer service, make sure you be there to show that you fill the tank exactly when you leave. I left with 1/4 tank, drove 17 Miles. Fill 4 gallons ($18.96)when I return back .Got charge $30 gas fee plus $24.99 a gallon ..came back to uhaul( S Blvd)when received the email, said someone already took the truck. while waiting to politely ask for credit back , I was blame that my fault without looking at my gas gauge contact and very aggressive toward toward me.just be careful when you return, the guy was there with me got charge $800 more and drove only 35 miles. They realize they mistake but they treat him shit and blame him that he should've check the mileage before he Leave.comon sense tell you if he only took the truck for 3 hours. We turned in a truck we rented in Georgia to the South Blvd Charlotte U-Haul location. The person we encountered was extremely rude. When we asked if there was anything we needed to do with the truck, the guy just said "I'll get to you in 20 minutes". We left knowing that there was no trash in the truck and that all the dents and scratches were accounted for when we picked up the truck. Within 10 minutes leaving the location we got a credit card alert for a cleaning charge of $26. In disputing the charge, the location said there was "stuff" in the truck so they charged the cleaning fee. The "stuff" in the truck was 6 U-HAUL BLANKETS that we rented from U-HAUL. We did one trip in that truck with a couch, 3 bar stools and 3 boxes. We left no trash or any other "stuff" in the truck but THEIR BLANKETS! I have a feeling they auto-charge the cleaning fee and I guess the excuse is that we should have folded the USED U-HAUL BLANKETS upon returning the truck. Terrible experience! read more

These guys are just fine. Exactly what you need for moving/boxing/hating yourself for deciding to move in the first place. This U-Haul location is a little squirrely to get in/out of when you're stuck in the midst of busy South Blvd traffic. Two separate entrances. Just do your best to not run into anything. The parking lot is littered with "stuff." The staff inside, if you can tell who is who, are "friendly." Everyone looked like they didn't understand why they were there, not wearing uniforms or U-Haul shirts, talking on personal phones, and looking bored. One of the guys was even talking to another employee about a customer's negative experience and laughing about it. Not the most professional decision. However, appearances aren't everything. They did a great job with our rental. They were honest, thorough, and quick with us. They didn't try and waste our time and sell us stuff we didn't want or need. Next time we need a truck, I'd most likely visit this location again. read more

A-ok. I've been wanting to get a bike rack for quite some time and the ones I've been looking at need a hitch. Who knew U-haul installs hitches?! I booked an appointment online; you also save $10 when you purchase online. They call you right after you purchase to secure an appointment. Easy. It takes approximately 1 hour for them to install. In the meantime, bring something to do or walk across the street to the Dunkin' Donuts or Saigon Palace for lunch. There is no official waiting room (just 3 chairs in the middle of the showroom), the A/C isn't strong (especially in the morning with the sun beating through the windows), and a parking lot full of rental trucks isn't a great place to hang out It wasn't until later and walking up to the back of my car that I noticed they placed a U-haul sticker on the bar of the mount...I'll have to figure out how to take that off...looks really tacky. In any case, it was easy and the job got done within 24 hours of when I made up my mind to do it. Nice. read more

We've used this location multiple times over the past *almost* year. They are SO nice here. We have worked with Taheem several times and he is the manager of the location. Last Saturday he was slammed (back ups, a line of people, calls, etc) and he still had a smile on his face and was working to make all his customers happy. I have to move on a Saturday. So I schedule to pick up the truck (26ft.) at 7am two weeks in a advance. I get a call on the way down to this office saying they didn't have the truck I request but they could give me a 14ft! Now I had a team of movers at my house waiting on a truck to load, so I had no choice but to take it. I wasn't given any sort of discount or any real apology. It was a situation of if I wanted it I had to pay full price otherwise it was going to someone else. On top of all that and having to make numerous trips with the smaller truck, I had to wait almost 40min to give the truck back! Not worth the hassle. I recently rented a truck and was charged $14 for gasoline despite the truck not requiring it. When it was returned an at length discussion was had about how it was good to go. Then I was charged. We called back, talked to them, they said they'd refund the money. It's six days later and no refund. Make sure to carefully document the condition of the vehicle, including the gas gauge and the required return condition, as well as any conversation you have with employees to try and give yourself a fair fight. Otherwise be prepared for extra charges. read more

December 11, 2016 - Rented a truck the night before a big event. Picked up the truck, filled it to the top with equipment and furniture for the event. The next morning, on the way to the event, the truck overheated 5 minutes after hitting the road. Pulled into a gas station and watched all of the radiator fluid pour out. No big deal. I was early. Trucks break down and you can't necessarily control it. I tried to call the store but kept getting forwarded to the 1-800 dispatch number. Must have called 15-20 times trying to get someone. Each time I reached someone at dispatch, I was put on hold, disconnected a number of times, and ultimately never got anywhere through them despite having my case "escalated" and getting forwarded to someone who was supposed to be able to help me. U-Haul's dispatch never was able to reach anyone in the store. After 3 hours in 20 degree weather and no contact, I called my wife and had her go to the store to talk to someone in person. The store refused to send me a new truck until they could send a third-party repair/tow service to inspect mine. Apparently, it's company policy. However, the store is only a 2-3 miles from where the truck broke down. I explained that if I didn't get a new truck, I would miss my event. I even told them to just charge me for another truck and bring it. If they determined that they were not at fault, we could debate that later. No luck. Third party service arrived and was helpful. The first thing the technician told me after popping the hood and taking a quick look was that the truck appeared not to have been serviced in some time, and it never should have been let out of the lot in the condition it was in. He also suggested I use a competitor (won't mention their name here). During the technician's review, the employees at the store confirmed for my wife that the truck never should have been off the lot and was apparently flagged as damaged. They told her it was the fault of the employee who originally helped me the day before and that it was his mess to fix. After keeping her cool and with some patience, my wife was able to convince them to send a new truck to me. By this point, I had missed setting up for the event that I was supposed to host. The store finally agreed to send a new truck. It arrived 30 minutes later, and I transferred all of the gear from one truck to the other and was off. Had to cancel the event and return all of the stuff in the truck back to where I got it. A day completely lost. Charges for the second truck were waived, but the first truck was still charged to my account. My office assistant followed up with the store on 2-3 occasions to get the charge dismissed, citing that the store knowingly let out a bad truck. She was given the name of an individual, who was supposed to call her and arrange the credit. It's now over a month since we rented the truck, and no credit from the store. I've called AMEX to dispute the charges. Admittedly, service from the gentleman who assisted me the first night was cheery and relatively quick. Unfortunately, he either made a mistake or proper measures were not taken to make sure the bad truck was not leased. The assistance from the employees the morning of my issue was abysmal. They were lazy, unresponsive and unmoved by our pleas for help, despite our treating them with kid gloves. Based on their dispositions, we knew any animosity would only make them move more slowly, although I don't know how that is possible. When you clearly make mistakes as a company, you should do everything thing you can to avoid a customer having to do what I am doing now. Had U-Haul refunded me the $75-80 that is still sitting on my credit card, I would never have patronized them again, but I also would never have taken the time and effort to give this review. Wish I could say I feel better, but I've just wasted another (and my last) 30 minutes on U-Haul. Maybe this will help another would-be customer. read more
