I have been a customer at public storage about 1 yr. I was not told if I decide to sell contents it goes against my credit. I checked the orange booklet it never mentioned a thing about selling items and my credit . Wanting to pay today even though when I set up acct I explained I cannot take out funds until 24th. Now im told its only 1st. Or 3rd. Or I will be charged late fee. In the middle of my conversation with DANIELLE HUNG UP . I called back NO ANSWER she never answers. I placed a call to Corp. I am amazed they operate a business like this. There's never anyone there you call the number you can't get a person you call the manager on duty. You can't get a person. We've been trying to rent an additional unit. We already have two at this location, but we could not get a live person on the phone after leaving messages and calling for over a week so we decided to visit the place today waited there for an hour. Nobody's there whoever's managing this does not belong in that role. I've been in business for many years. I would never tolerate this type of performance. As far as the storage industry is concerned, what could go wrong they give you a certain amount of square footage in your store stuff but customer service and management nonexistent literally nonexistent. read more

I rented a unit here 6 months ago. Buried in this month's auto pay statement was a note that the next autopay would be for 37% more. A 37% percent increase in 6 months?!?!? Frankly I'm shocked at how aggressive an increase this was. My prior storage unit would increase the rent, but usually 10% annually. Moving to this place was the biggest mistake ever. I calculated it would take a year of savings to recoup the cost of moving units. I asked the manager before I moved in about rate increases and she said they were not frequent and not that much. I should have done more homework. Sharing this review so others won't make the same mistake. read more

Please be weary of working with this company. They DO increase their rates, and do NOT give you time to adjust. When I first signed up I was paying $205. NOW- it's over $330 dollars (granted $15 of that goes to insurance). Despite the unwarranted price gouge, the quality of service did not increase, amenities did not increase, more features were not provided, they just raised the rent just to raise it. Please, I am urging everyone in the upper north area of Suffolk county to find another place. Also, when I lost my key one time to the unit, oh boy did I have to pay. I reached out to the manager at the time and he didn't even bother to help me, I had to call my own person and they charged me an arm and a leg to help me with my key. Please be careful of working with the public storage company. I get that at the end of the day this is a business, but there is no customer loyalty or gratitude and they lack customer service. & God forbid you miss a payment accidentally, the fees and penalty are horrific. read more

I am very disappointed with Public Storage. I had asked numerous times when I first got a space at their facility in Commack when the rates would increase and they told me "not frequent and usually once a year" I am now constantly getting raises every three months and it keeps going higher and higher. I have called customer service numerous times as they recommended and they have been extremely rude and not helpful at all. I can not afford to move to a smaller unit with the amount of items I have. I am sharing this review so other customers do not make the same mistake and look into other facilities when looking to store items. This has been extremely stressful and disappointing. read more

Matt Forman is the district manager for public storage in the Commack, NY area. DO NOT do Business with Matt. I've been a public storage customer for many years, in many locations on the east coast and never experienced a cold and very curt engagement as I did with Matt. I would describe it as snooty and it appeared that he had a superiority complex with his tone; not sure why as working for a storage company wouldn't warrant that type of superiority. Issue- New York was under a state of emergency on Sep 29th/30th and all airports were closed, thus I was not able to get into the area in time to clear out my storage closet. I arrived from Nevada on the evening of Sep 30th and first thing on Oct 1st, I cleared out the closet and called the front desk to inform them. I also vacated online to be sure. Nobody was at the front desk when I called as it was a Sunday so I left a VM. Britany called me back the following day and said that I still owed for the entire month of October. I explained the situation and she again could not make the adjustment. I asked to speak to the manager and she gave me Matt's number. Matt and I got on a call and it was like speaking with a two dimensional avatar. No feeling at all, or willingness to hear the "act of god" situation with the weather and state of emergency scenario. Matt- there is a term called Force Majure which as manager Im sure you heard of. It goes both ways, to protect you as a vendor and me as a customer. If the weather prevents me from getting to the closet before the end of the month, that is out of my hands. But you claiming that making the one day exception is supposedly out of your hands is not under force majure, its just bad business for a customer thats been with Public Storage for many years. After I made the justified explanation and Matt denied the one day exception, he said, "Well, your closet is not technically vacated as your lock is still on it." I said I could take the lock off immediately and didn't remove it as to not leave the locker open on the Sunday when I vacated. He still denied the request with undeniable arrogance. I can pay the monthly fee for the entire month of October, and also ensure that Mr. Forman understands the value of doing good business. In response to his reach to claim that my closet is not technically vacated as the lock is on the door, Im going to remove it today, Oct 2nd (even though I have the right to it for the month of October). Im going to file a lawsuit against Mr Forman for the cost of October and legal fees incurred for the legal filing. I will also ask for punitive damages so nobody else has to go through this with Matt and his groundless arrogance. Certainly an Act of God (weather, state of emergency) would be grounds for a 1 day adjustment, absurd. Note- Not willing to speak to Matt per this issue further; if corporate would like to contact me that will be acceptable. read more

I am furious with Public Storage. They are unreasonable. and the rates keep raising month by month. Once I get out of my storage, I will never pursue public storage ever again. They are the worse I had six months of chemo therapy and while I was at home sick my rates on my storage unit kept raising. Never again public storage and shame on you. read more

BEWARE!!! They upped my rent 33%. When I called customer service, I was told that I am subject to rental fee increases and that it was a *business decision*. I have not been able to get in touch with a supervisor. I have been at PS for 2 years and the increases have been around $10. It just jumped up $40 over the course of one pay period. Unacceptable. Went here the other day- took my time to drive down, with my infant and toddler.. walked in.. so a man behind the counter and he said, "can I help you with something?" I said, "yes please I'm here to inquire about rental fees" his response.. "just go online and look it up, the prices are always changing" I just laughed TWO kids into your store-- if I wanted to get my answers online don't you think it would been a lot easier than logging two children out of the house to do so? No. I was there because I had questions. Poor service. And for that reason they lost a customer. He could have easily taken 2 minutes to go over the current rates available-- or helped direct me in the right direction.. instead he was too busy to be bother with assisting me. read more

I rarely reviews but public storage space was such an easy set up. From signing up on the computer to just walking in and using my phone to get into the elevator. My lock was in my storage unit waiting for me. Everything was so easy. I would highly recommend using this company. read more

Set-up was great. Friendly and helpful. However, the men's room is a mess - it hasn't been cleaned in weeks - I know because the garbage on the floor - and elsewhere - is still there. Inexcusable. It has also now been nearly a month since one of the elevators has been out of commission. There is another at the far end of the building which does work. Annoying since my unit is by the elevator that has not been available - more time, money and energy used since I have workers that bring things to the unit. I find it unacceptable that the elevator has not been repaired. Very clean inside. Can't use the carts after the staff is gone since they are the ones that give you the key. That's annoying - so plan ahead from 6-9am and 6pm-9pm. read more

I'd like to put 0 stars but unfortunately cant. We tried closing out the locker on oct 1st but they charge the whole month either way and do not pro-rate. We decided to hold on to the locker, incase we needed it and we also knew that if we decided to close out the first day in the month and we needed it later, we wont have the option to use it. We decided end of october we will close it out. My wife was pregnant, we had the baby the 28th of october. Unfortunately , my wife had complications with her epidural and ended up having csf leak which is very debilitating and you cant get up or do anything at all. We were in the hospital for days and she had to get another epidural to fix it. She is bed ridden. I have to take care of her and the baby so it's not easy to just say hey we need to close the locker out. To this day she is not well even after second epi. I called commack public storage , they dont even care . They just said call the customer service line. I called and Aiden, again could not do anything. They sound like robots and dont care about the complications we had. I asked Aiden to forward me to a supervisor. They hung up on me. I called back and Rachel picked up. Same story. There is no supervisor and they are just trying to fool me. She forwards me and acts like I'm a new call and asks for my info again. I asked to have the locker back and they basically said no even though I paid for the whole month of november already. I kept asking for supervisor and she hung up. Great customer service. You would think that this company might but policy aside when we have serious injury that happens. I will try disputing. read more

For the *second* time I was given a very under-size unit. First time they fixed it but only after I brought a tape measure and complained quite a bit. I rented 50 square feet and I realize the sizes are "nominal" but it was ridiculous what they gave me, about 43 sf. Then I rented with them for a while. Then I went to move to another facility and Bingo! they did it again!!! It had been long enough so I had forgotten. Now they won't give my deposit back or return my calls. I don't care if I have to sell or toss everything or store it on my deck, I'm getting out of Public Storage ASAP!!!! read more

These guys are awful. I've had my furniture there for almost a year. They hiked the rent by 20%. When I asked why, they told me that, "Corporate likes to make sure we're turning over those units, so raising the rent will get people to leave so new customers can come in." With all the difficulties of moving, this was a pleasurable experience - from start to finish. The manager who got me set up was a nice as could be and very helpful. Unloading from my car was a breeze and I was able to pack out the unit from bottom to top. I have only a 5x5 and I really got a lot of stuff in there! Nick was so pleasant! He was ready for us when we arrived, showed us how to get to our space, showed us how to open the lock, made sure the space would be large enough for our needs, and showed us the closest elevator to our space. He mentioned where we can find hand carts to make our move easier and asked if we needed any boxes or bubble wrap for our move. He made the whole process so easy! He explained everything about how the payment will be made, explained every step of the lease and repeatedly checked to make sure we didn't have any questions. The spaces are climate controlled and there is a lot of security all around. The prices are the most fair of any similar location in the vicinity. Use this location if you can! read more

Public Storage is one of the greediest companies I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with. Their rents are as high (or higher) than residential property per square foot. They continually edge their prices up and up, at about twice the rate of inflation. Sadly I'm stuck paying their extortion-like rent due to medical issues I have, or I'd take my belongings and get the heck out of there. Oh... I'm currently paying TWICE what I was paying a few short years ago. What seemed like a good deal turned out to be nothing more than a boondoggle. I've tried talking to the powers that be (managers and corporate) about how they treat their long-term renters who have shown them loyalty, while giving "newbies" big breaks on their rent. Public Storage doesn't care. They're extremely arrogant bordering on belligerent toward their "customers"... you know, the one's who pay their paychecks. I guess that's because they have a demand for their spaces they feel they can treat their best customers like c**p. If you rent at Public Storage, make sure you have an "out" from their property. When I can finally move my property closer to home, then "Public Storage, NEVER AGAIN". read more
