Mike was the only person making sure the facility was running efficiently. So far my only positive customer experience as well has been with Mike and one other young gentleman. If you can avoid having to deal with the other employees, you should be able to have a less stressful experience. They are very dismissive, untrained, and tend to give you attitude whenever you need help. I've recently have dealt with an infestation of moths in the unit as well. Upon entry of the building there were a variety of dead bugs in the hallways around certain unit doors. Like I've said, the place has gone downhill at an alarming rate since Mike has left. Access & Security: 24/7 access is available with enrollment but the standard hours were more than sufficient for us. All access is electronically controlled by PIN pads located throughout the building and each locker has a keyed padlock on it. Depending on your locker size you might get an individually monitored unit alarm, ours had it, smaller lockers might not. The entire building has tons of CCTV cameras located throughout and looks very secure against would be burglars. Cleanliness: Even the bathrooms are secured by PIN pad, if that doesn't tell you the place is kept extremely clean then I don't know what will. Everything is immaculate inside the building with the exception of some scuffs and scratches here and there from people recklessly careening through the halls with loading dollys. Price: I hear it already, I can hear the voices of people saying "that place is expensive" SHUT UP! You get what you pay for. If you want top tier storage with high security and climate control to guarantee that your sensitive vinyl record collection and high end computers stay safe during your move you're going to need a company like Safeguard. Bottom line: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Don't skimp on protecting your stuff if you have high value items. If you're just storing a bunch of boxes of clothes and general housewares you probably don't need a fancy storage provider with climate controlled indoor storage and can go for an outdoor locker. All that said, for what we were storing, records and high value computing and storage arrays along with a plethora of other sensitive electronics it was well worth the extra money knowing our stuff was safely stored under climate controlled lock and key. Location: It's right off the highway which makes it easy to get to with a large truck and their loading dock can accommodate most any truck you can throw at it. Loading Dock: An enclosed loading dock is a nice plus especially when it's suddenly started raining and you want to unload your truck into storage. Unloading dollies are provided and all were in good working order when I was there. Bottom Line: If you are looking for top notch storage this is your place. If you are storing low value items that don't need climate control then you might be better served elsewhere. read more

It's definitely the priciest storage unit I've ever had, but if your stuff is worth anything to you, this a good place to keep it safe. Immaculate facility, all indoors and climate controlled. There's an elevator, numerous flatbed dollies, and extra large loading garage to keep you out of the elements while you load in. You'll have access to their trash and recycling dumpsters, there's boxes and other convenient storage solutions available for purchase there, and what I like the most is that you can purchase a keyfob to scan for entrance to the facility, instead of having to enter a 17 digit security code like at most other storage facilities. Again, it's on the pricey side, but last spring my unit at Public Storage flooded from the rain and ruined a bunch of work stuff, then in the summer all my Yelpstick melted in the heat, and in winter all my wine froze and several of the bottles popped and broke. For all the hassle and ruined items at outdoor and cheaper storage units, I think paying the extra scratch here will be worth it. Signing up is definitely a process and they have a suspiciously large amount of rules about not keeping animals living or deceased in the units, which seemed weird but maybe after Silence of the Lambs they got a surge of weirdos trying to do that sort of stuff. You can keep alcohol in the units but no food, according to the agreement. Be sure to ask about the $1 monthly special. At first I didn't inquire about it and then I later called back and they said it wasn't valid for my unit because it was the last one of that size... yet there's a giant sign (bigger than my entire apartment) plastered to their building that says your first month's rent is $1, no restrictions noted. I kind of thought that was some bull-azz-sh*t, but then the manager was nice enough to call me back to tell me she checked with her manager and they were able to grant me the $1 first months price, which does make a pretty big difference when you consider your overall cost for a year. I've rented a spot here for about 6-7 months now. Here's what I like: 1) No-low pressure when I went to inquire about a storage locker. I told them what I was looking for and they took me to see the lockers. No push to get me to rent immediately. 2) Fairly easy application and form process when getting a locker. 3) The locks they have for purchase there aren't forced down your throat at outrageous prices. If you choose to buy one, you may at a reasonable price. 4) Easy access to get in and take your stuff in and out of the place. Plenty of carts to use. 5) Reasonably temperature controlled. No frostbite in the winter or sweltering in the summer in their place. Before going here, I had looked at a couple other places. This place is by far the best - decent staff and easy to access. First off - yes, it is pricey for sure. My wife and I rented a storage area for our household goods as we search for a home - the management is very easy to work with, and they will give you a tour and explain all the features, of which there are many. Pro: They have a drive in load/unload area that will fit a moving truck (semi). This was ESSENTIAL for us, since it was storming when our movers arrived. You don't get that with a standard storage place. They have both a PIN to access your floor as well as a key fob you can purchase - the security seems really good here - if you open a storage unit that isn't yours, it alarms and alerts management. Also, the elevator will only take you to the floor you are storing stuff on. They have dollys and recycle available on site for your boxes and stuff. Con: Elevator is painfully slow, and for a place that is used to store your stuff, I don't understand why they wouldn't get a freight elevator instead of a standard elevator. They will try to get you to purchase their insurance - don't do it, call your insurance company and have them tell you if your homeowners/renters insurance will cover you, and have them fax the policy to the manager - saves you $$. Servicemembers: READ THE WAIVER they will have you look at. It could essentially strip you of any protections you have under the Servicemembers Protection Act. I think this was really shady for the company to do, but...read the paperwork. The individual storage blocks don't have lighting in them. This can be frustrating depending on how large of a space you reserved and whether you're trying to dig through boxes in the dark to find a small doll that your daughter absolutely must have or all hell will break loose. ~Finally, make sure they give you the 99 cents for a month rate up front in the contract, because if you sign without including that...you're SOL, friend. Also - do not store firearms or taxidermy stuff in there, or try to hold sweet meth-lab ragers after winning big at Arlington on Lucky Devil. You will be booted. read more

I was moving and needed temporary storage for my excess stuff so my condo would show well during the sales process. I have stored stuff in the past in another city where the storage unit was more like an outdoor garage, i.e. everything got dirty and dusty. Safeguard Storage is pristine in its cleanliness! It's kind of like a creepy horror movie when you take your stuff up to the third floor. There are no humans around, music is playing, and it's not well lit as you step off the elevator. As you walk down the hallway, the lights come on automatically, following you. EEEEE! I felt like I should look out for Jason coming around the corner, LOL. I have been renting at this Safeguard Storage for over 7 years. Our rental units have changed a few times, as our lifestyle changed. We moved into a new home, changed our business location, so the size of the space needed varied over the years. The staff has always been helpful and very pleasant to deal with on every aspect of day to day renting. The facility is always clean and well tended. This place is very expensive i have had my stuff stored for almost 8 months. Good quality furniture and all the knick knacks that mean the world to my wife. I am relocating to Florida went there to get my belongings out of my unit remind you most expensive facility around. I am moving my things out of the unit i find water in my unit. Mold on my very expensive furniture. Dawn the manager quick to pass blame. Says this is between you and your insurance company. Really no I'm sorry i understand your upset. Nope. I am posting pics for you all to see i had a large 1st floor unit. For the money i spent i could have saved a ton of money going to an outside unit for the same results. 5k in damaged furniture. These people won't do a thing for you. The district manager told me himself when i asked for at least half month refund for time i am not using after this disaster he flat out said no we won't do that. Folks go somewhere else they don't care about you or your stuff. Update. So the district manager calls me today. He says I talked to upper management and you need to go through the insurance company we are not going to do anything for you. Storing here was definitely an experience that I would not repeat. Staff was very nice and I had to agree that I was not sleeping there. Apparently that does not apply to the homeless people from the shelter next door. I ran into them very early in the morning and the staff is aware of this. Also rented over the winter months as it is supposed to be heated. It is but at the lowest of the recommended industry standards. Probably to discourage anyone from sleeping there. But perhaps not the homeless as it would be warmer than the outside. Go somewhere else! read more

We just relocated from California to the Rolling Meadows area. I have to say Dawn and Debra have been absolutely amazing! We used ABF Upack for our move. If your not familiar with their service they drop off a 27 foot semi trailer and your responsible for loading/unloading it. It seemed like a great idea in California. What I forgot to factor in was we were moving from a home to a storage unit. We had a hard time trying to find a facility that could accommodate both the size of the trailer and also allowing it to be parked for 3 days on the lot (Upack does not come back the same day to get the trailer even if it's empty). I stopped at Safegaurd and spoke with Dawn the facility manager about our situation. She had to call me later that day once she spoke with the owners but I did get approval from her. I stopped in later that week and signed the lease paperwork. I got to meet Debra who was already aware of our situation. She was the one who was at the facility the day we moved in. Our move in day went super smooth. We even had to get a second unit. Debra did her best to get us as close to the other unit as possible. The facility is clean, insect free, properly equipped with security cameras, and the customer service is phenomenal. It is a bit pricey but I'm a strong believer in you pay for what you get. They did offer us our first months rent free. I'll review them again when we move out. read more

I have had a storage space here for many years, moved from a much less desirable storage facility. The management has always been excellent. Dawn manages now and she is top notch. The property is very clean and I always felt safe when I had to go there late at night alone.I recently had to move out due to a new position which no longer requires storage. After evaluating a number of self-storage facilities in the area, I decided to sign with SafeGuard Self Storage for three reasons: 1) the cleanliness, security features, and apparent quality of the facility, 2) good pricing, and 3) most importantly, because of Mike, the Manager of the facility. Mike impressed me with his professionalism; his obvious desire to understand and address the requirements of the customer; his thorough knowledge of the facility, its security features, and its benefits for customers; his intelligence; and his personal involvement in the smooth-running of the facility for the benefit of his customers. As examples of his helpfulness, Mike explained that he himself stores items there and provided a customer perspective on its benefits, suggested ways to optimize the storage of my things, and helped me understand the benefits and limitations of the various add-on items.
