I discovered rent can be lowered with a request. There must be new stricter rules bc Mike said we are only allowed ONE request PER YEAR for a rent decrease. (And that request can be refused, or it can lower the rent for 3 OR 6 months.) Mike did his job & was amiable toward me. I would be glad to ask him anything again as the man certainly spoke in an honorable manner & he was precise in his information. --The next comment has absolutely nothing to do with Mike: The property is looking better as the gate has been working, which I appreciate. read more

Unfortunately I have to chime in here, I'll be leaving this facility within the next week. I have an outdoor parking spot for my travel trailer, it was hit recently by someone who moved in next to me. I know this because I moved here from another facility where my trailer was also damaged and had to be repaired by insurance in almost the same spot I'm now damaged again. I moved in with nobody next to me, someone moves in, and I'm damaged again. I filed a police report and kept being promised updates on the security camera footage review from the dates and times my neighbor accessed the facility and the next day would go by and no phone call, no update, so I would stop by, they would tell me they didn't see anything, and that they were going to review more footage and then no updates again. I will say that Daniel has been very nice throughout this process but the lack of follow-up is really disappointing. Sorry Public Storage, I tried to make it work. read more

As a new storage unit renter, I was a bit nervous on the move-in day. I eRented all over my phone and downloaded the app with helped my manage my account, pay the fee and open the gate. Tammy was a great help, friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and she put my fears to rest. The location is convenient, clean and easy to operate the keys and doors. Do not rent here....... They have an ongoing theft problem. I had items stolen from my unit (indoor) and my best guess is the person who committed the theft did so from the top of the unit. There is no ceiling that would secure the inside units. The persons sharing the adjoining units can easily gain access to your unit. I have filed a police report with the Libertyville police department and await there findings. Also while talking to the reporting officer he mentioned that there was a huge burglary incident at this location just last year. I googled Libertyville public storage burglary and seen the person was captured who did the burglary last year. He hit over 30 units I believe. Unbelievable read more

Piss poor management. Also, the area is not secure. 40 units were burglarized in July 1017. There have been numerous problems with the automated gate breaking down. The main issue is that management does not return phone calls when there is a gate problem and they do not resolve issues in a timely fashion. There are plenty of contractors who store their equipment at this facility. When the gate breaks down or if there is a problem, management will not notify their customers. We showed up to goto work this morning and we can't gain access to our equipment. This is a huge problem. The gate was padlocked closed and a note was posted on the door. They should have informed their customers that there was a problem!!!! We lost income because of their negligence. Please see photo below and note the misspelling of management.... It is impossible to get someone on the phone who can resolve the problem. They will not send an employee to unlock the gate. After 6 phone calls I was finally able to get someone in the phone but all they could do was provide an office number for the district manager who "checks their voicemail twice daily." I got a storage unit here late last year. It was not a $1 move-in, rates were higher than stated online because you have to have insurance on the unit but the woman who showed me around was friendly. The units seemed well-maintained & I could access my unit until 9pm most days. but then....they increased my rates. cut the access hours. In the winter it's not plowed. I was actually stuck in their driveway for over an hour in the snow. & the guy that helped me out said he was going to see if something could be done about my rate increase for my troubles...no further contact about that whatsoever. The potholes are horrible when the driveway isn't covered in snow. I will be moving my items from this storage facility. read more

Ever since the manager, Megan, left, it's gone downhill. Our unit has gone WAY up in price but the benefits have dwindled. For example, the outer door with the easiest access to our unit has been broken for weeks. The bathroom was out of toilet paper for almost two days and the staff isn't always there on time. Obviously, our biggest complaint is the price of our unit which, in less than a year, has gone up almost $100. And the broken door makes things far less convenient. We bring our own toilet paper now, just in case. read more

HORRIBLE service! I keep a small storage unit for business purposes. Previously had 24 hour access and could retrieve what I needed at any time. Facility recently restricted gate hours so no renters can access facilities until after 9:30am. Came during regular business hours to find gate chained shut and office "closed for a meeting" for multiple hours when I needed to access my unit. Lowered the level of service and then advised me that my rent was going to increase. Pathetic!! My unit was broken into last year, security is non-existent. Relocated to a UHaul facility less than 5 miles away, lower rent, higher security. read more

Note that the clear majority of ratings on this property since 2017 are 1 star. Here are my issues. Many of which are shared by others: - no mention of monthly insurance cost in rates. You must take it to start, but can get it removed once you confirm with your insurance company that your homeowners/renters insurance would cover damage/theft - I asked about rate increases when I started. I was assured any increase would be nominal by Dan. However, after the first 6 months my rate increased by almost 50%. That is ridiculous. - it is as poorly maintained property. The air conditioning did not work in the summer, the gate seems to have ongoing problems and there are consistently delays to get issues fixed. - I need a cart to move items from my car to the unit. Most people would, but the carts are in the office. Multiple times there is no one in the office during normal hours so you can't get a cart and must wait until they return - usually 15 minutes. - Service and resolution of issues is abysmal. Regarding the rate increase, I had to speak to 4 people, all lacked follow through in getting back to me and none had authority to make any decision as a property manager. Once the issue was finally escalated to the District after 2 weeks there was no consideration of the 50% increase and I was told there would be no adjustment. These guys clearly don't value customer service. read more

I will give negative rating if it is an available option. Over 40 units in this facility were burglarized in July and my unit was one of them. But, nobody notified me and I discovered my unit was broken in and most of my items were gone when I went there weeks later. I went there again to close the account on 2nd day of October and I found out that they already charged for the whole month of October and won't prorate. Staff, Alisha was new but with a extremely bad attitude. When I asked her if the non prorating policy is correct, she replied " are you questioning on how to do my Job?" very impolite and rude person. Later, she had to check my unit to make sure everything is empty, but she did not know where my unit was located. Do not use this place! read more

More than a month ago, the management restricted access to 9:30 to 6:30 p.m., instead of the stated 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. They sent no email notification. They merely posted a paper on one of the doors saying the restriction was due to "extreme weather conditions." Both times I tried to access my unit, to get files needed for work, I was locked out. I couldn't come during their restricted hours, because, duh, I'm working. The sun was shining, the temperature was well above zero, and there was no snow anywhere on the property. This is absolutely horrible customer service. I think they just didn't want to pay someone to monitor or unlock the property. If they don't fix this problem soon, I'm moving out. read more

My husband and I got a storage unit here while we were moving. It was convenient as it was close so we choose this location. After a few weeks my husband noticed items knocked over and moved within the unit that he had not moved. Boxes were moved across the unit and the picture we took says a lot. Either someone broke in or hopped the walls.When I called the facility I was told they would look at the cameras to see who should not be on the floor at that time. Interesting that you know every person who shouldn't be on a floor. I called corporate who filed a complaint and advised the region director would call me within 48 hours. She actually called me but was from a blocked caller Id so I wouldn't answer. I have called her twice with no response. Also they refused to refund me my money for the month we paid as our items were stored for that month. We did move everything out and we never heard an I'm sorry for the inconvenience of any kind. This is the worst storage facility I have ever seen. Invest in cameras by the units and not just by the elevators and some customer service to better assist your customers. One star only because Yelp made me put a star otherwise I would have given this place a huge negative. read more

Do not rent here. This is a serious review, as I have used their services for many years and they should be ashamed. Do not rent here for three reasons 1) Very rude staff, to the point that it's actually hilarious, and 2) They raise rent (4 times in 2 1/2 years), and 3) There is a serious field mice issue (I know, it's Illinois and all, but still) I have been a tenant in this complex for more than 2 years. For the two times I have needed help from the staff 1) They are never there during posted office hours and 2) Are extremely rude, so much so they have actually dared my to contact their district manager. I'm a reasonable person, I pay my rent on the same day every month (direct withdrawal), and don't expect much other than have the gate access open on time and have the snow cleaned in front of my unit. Background: I have used Public Storage in several states. I have been a tenant in Baltimore, Maryland and San Diego, California. Never have I been treated like I have been treated here. I honestly don't know where they get the staff for this place. I'm a grown adult and am aware of the life of someone who works in customer service. I've been there, many of us have been there. Everyone has bad days, but everyday is a bad day at the front desk of this place (if it's even open, as they leave without even leaving a card in the window). The unhealthy attitude at the Public Storage in Libertyville is shameful. The first incident was with a chain-smoking (do they even allow this in 2016?) Asian women who refused to take back packing supplies that they hard-sold me on the 11th day of return. Ok, policy is policy, I understand, well, I blew that off, I guess I can use several huge plastic mattress bags in the future (they actually sold me them because they said the floors in the units are dirty and I might want to 'protect' my stuff). The second incident (and the only second time I've ever been in the office) was by a women supposedly named Alicia who said 'she didn't want to hear my problems on why I was insuring my contents with Allstate, not them, and got really, really mean. I didn't care, didn't want to share - just wanted to change the coverage over. I've never been talked down so badly in my life. Not to mention that she wasn't even in the office for 1/2 hour during posted times. Sad to say, but the environment of this particular location is probably caused by the higher-ups not taking the time to hire serious people. I can tell you this. There are other options around here and they would be worth looking into, if not for the piece of mind. Do not be fooled into their low initial rates - they do not last long. They have raised my rent with no explanation four times (every 6-7 months) and I only know when I see my bank statement as I have direct withdrawal. Be aware of this at this location before moving in and if you are lured by inexpensive move-ins, know that other companies around here do a better job at KEEPING YOU AS A TENANT. Corporate, signage on building, and their unanswered voice mail refers to normal office hours. That is a lie, this place is by appointment only, Plus you are not allowed to make an appointment since conversations with the property manager are strictly blocked by the property manager not responding to voice mails or being present during normal business hours posted. If corporate forces them to return your call be ready for their annoyed accusation " someone told me to call this number, Did you have an appointment today?!?!" Oh, but you are free to go hang out in the buildings, hallways etc since the gate lock is not being used, just drive right in. No one needs a code here, your items' security is clearly not worth the property manager having to maintain the gate. read more

Notified them I would need to get my camper out for a Trip and They had me plowed out and ready to go in time. This place is so misleading. They told me it would be $1 for the first month plus a $24 move in fee. However, what they don't tell you is that you have to pay $11 for insurance per month. So by the time you get there with all your stuff, it can be a hassle to go somewhere else. My rent is supposed to be $32 per month. Doubt it. We'll see when we cross that bridge.... read more

Ok storage facility. Be careful with outside storage, especially during winter months. My trailer was damaged when it was hit, presumably by the snow plowing company. Definite proof they did the damage, no, but everything lead up to them, even the police thought so. Additionally, the outside could be cleaned up, run a street sweeper through there, don't allow companies to dump all kinds of equipment and junk on the ground, etc. Sometimes it's a mess, not a storage yard, but a junk drop. Oh, and the pot holes could use some attending to. I've also been an inside customer, no problems there, however, you're not going to move in for the $1 - you must buy their lock and there's also an administration fee, just as others have indicated. So the $1 move in, well simply is NOT going to happen. Staff is very nice and helpful, never had a problem there, they try their absolute best all the time, Meghan is most helpful, she'll do everything she can to help you out. As storage facilities go, average, pretty much like all the rest. read more

I've used this location in the past for myself and had a great experience. It's a different story this time. I placed a hold on a unit to store items for my Mom but not until I received an assurance from Daniel that I would have 24 hour access provided I set my account up as auto pay. Perfect! Set up the move of our Mom's items over to the unit with family members and my sister and I both left our respective jobs early that day to help pack everything up. I arrived at the facility with enough time to take care of the paperwork and view the storage unit. While walking to the storage unit I wanted to confirm 24 hour access and posed that question to Daniel only to find out that, no, we wouldn't have 24 hour access. He was mistaken when he and I spoke on the phone. He was sorry but no 24 hour access. Are you kidding me? He couldn't send me an e-mail when he realized he'd made a mistake? Nope. He couldn't call me when he realized he'd made a mistake? Nope. They did call and leave a voice mail message but only to confirm the rental, no mention whatsoever about the mistake in access. Daniel and his co-worker suggested we could use their facility in Buffalo Grove. Yeah. Just what we wanted to do last night was drive from Grayslake to Buffalo Grove and back to Grayslake. The reason we selected this location is because of the location . . . less than 5 minutes from our Mom's home. Very poor management at this Public Storage location. Just try being honest and upfront in the future, a novel idea I know, but give it a try. Thank goodness I was able to find a very accommodating facility right down the road. read more

When I signed up for my unit at Public Storage, I was told I could access my unit from 6am until 9p daily. I hired a moving company to come to my unit at 8am, and discovered that Public Storage changed their hours: I could only access it from 9:30a until 6p M-F. I was never notified of this change. Multiple calls and email were made to various people at that time, including the Northwest District manager, but nobody could rectify this problem. I actually NEVER got a call back at all from the NW manager, whom I had called three times. I have never dealt with a business like this. I will not be using them again. read more

Buyer beware! I reserved my unit over the phone and after I explained that I had never used a storage facility before, I got what seemed like a great deal. They offered me $1 for the first month with a $22 admin fee. Email confirmation said TOTAL COST TO MOVE-IN: $23.00. I arrive for my scheduled appointment and Jim showed me the unit and said it would be $55. I explained what I had been told over the phone. He informed me that I had to pay for a cylinder lock of theirs on top of the other fees. I went to speak to Jenny, the so-called manager. I politely and calmly explained the situation to her and she said to me very rudely, "well you didn't ask". I told her, "so when I said to you that I needed all the information because I had never rented one before you didn't think this was pertinent information?" She then said in a condescending tone "well if I'm remembering correctly you were in a hurry to get off the phone". Which was absolutely not true as I was trying to do my due diligence to be an informed consumer. Needless to say, I left and will NEVER use this facility. If you respect yourself and want to avoid bait and switch tactics, avoid this place at all costs. read more
