Just moved out of this storage after 3 years of being here and I think I've been able to gather enough experience from this location to write a good review. The facility is clean, it's super easy to move in and out of units (I switched around to a bunch of units during my time here). But the main reason I wanted to leave a review is for the on site manager Mario! He gets 5 stars all around; he was always a pleasure to see, always greeted us when my husband and I would see him. I've been storing my stuff here for over 20 years. The last year the price has gone up more than it has in the previous 19 combined. Furthermore, the management is trash. Yesterday they wouldn't wait for me for 2 minutes while I got the last few items back in my locker at 6pm - I ended up getting locked in the building and they don't have their exits up to code so I pulled the fire alarm - they kicked me out because they're calling me a liar. After what I originally thought was a wonderful experience with opening my storage in little Tokyo, I am deeply disappointed to convey what happened in the months to follow. After some time following my review, I was hit with a HIKE in my monthly payments. A hit to my finances, through auto pay, was very much without a fare notice while I was subsequently laid off of my full time job. I did my best to save my items before they were "privately auctioned" off due to their process of removal, but between the cost of my multiple trips and dedicated efforts to regain my income back to a reasonable state at the same time, it was extremely difficult. An added matter to this issue is was the inconvenience to obtain decent air circulation and accessibility to a restroom, especially when I everything stored on the 6th floor. That alone, made it very grueling to withstand any organizational process to compartmentalize my merchandise during the days of summer. My last ditch efforts to try to save my unit, was to even try to work for Public Storage because I still had faith in them as a business. But after another HIKE and additional late fee's I felt it was a smack in the face considering I communicated my circumstances with my lay off and while deciding to grab what I could to do my own removal, the locks were changed. I do not blame Public Storage for my Lay off. However, I do view the entire organization as opportunist with an overall focus to scheme on financially vulnerable customers and their valuables. I thank Mario for his great customer service, but it's not enough to change my perception going into the future with Public Storage. read more

I am SHOCKED this location somehow maintains 4 stars1 This place is all kinds of bad news in everyway possible. STAY AWAY!!! I had a unit there for years, and in that time: 1. The building was repeatedly broken in to. There is a real problem with homeless people, both trying to live there or breaking in. 2. My unit flooded and they took 4 days to lmk via a voicemail. In that time they never checked my inside my unit even though they knew it was flooded. All they would have had to do was move a clothing rack and maybe my wardrobe would have been destroyed and moldy. 3. The insurance plan they sold me was worthless. Impossible to collect on. They wouldn't help me with the paperwork unless I payed the new jacked up rent for the next month, when I wanted to leave. All my clothes were ruined; expensive clothes, courture. And then they jacked up the rent and tried to hold my remaining stuff hostage. 4. Don't get a unit on the on the ground floor, there is a rat problem. If your stuff is damaged they won't take responsibility. And you won't be able to collect on insurance policy. BASICALLY, YOUR STUFF IS NOT SAFE HERE and 5. This company is NOTORIOUS for deceptive rent policies / bait and switch. They have one price online, another price when you show up with your stuff, and yet, another price, usually 6 months later. They are CONSTANTLY jacking up the price here and THEY DON'T CARE about YOU or YOUR STUFF!! read more

Location is nice, but the price jumped by 40% on my unit within LESS THAN 6 MONTHS of use. I noticed the pay increase online and when I asked a rep about it, he said that auto-notifications for rent increases are--by default--turned off, so customers aren't aware about the increases until after they have gone through. Incredibly shady and a predatory business practice. Cannot recommend people this place--stay FAR, far away unless you want to be having 40% increases twice a year. read more

Their app is convenient and easy, but I've found that most storage facilities are about the same, but Public Storage always has and advertised price and they agree on terms after the introductory price, then after a few months they almost DOUBLE the fee out of the blue. I went from $364/month, to $594 in three months. Please be aware that they will jack up the price enormously from what is advertised. Bait and switch at it's best. read more

MY UNIT WAS BROKEN INTO Wednesday morning. Things were stolen and the scene was left very messy. Three thrives, who probably have their own unit in the same building, went through my stuff and spent about one hour to take what they wanted. This review is about that incident and lack of security and liability of the building and staff. Police report has been filed and currently deal with the insurance. Get your insurance when/if you rent and remember that the safety is not 100% guaranteed or promised with the security code, lock, security cameras etc. read more

I'll say that the storage unit is clean and well kept. It's 8' x 15', and I guess relatively secure, but that's the end of the good things I have to say. Since last November they have raised the monthly rent twice for a total of a $200.00 per month increase for no reason whatsoever. No improvements, no increased security, not even a paint job. I tried to talk to the management to try to work out something more reasonable, but they answered me via e-mail. It's purely a greedy, money-grabbing rip-off, and it's definitely not worth $432.00 a month....!!!! I don't recommend anyone doing business with Public Storage. read more

Consider these photos before renting. Consider the proximity to Skidrow. Additionally, note the number of 1 star reviews and seemingly fabricated 5 star reviews. I learned my lesson $2,500 later including hiring movers to rent a different storage unit from a small business that is clean and safe 15 minutes away. If this isn't enough, consider supporting a small business during this time! I rarely write reviews, but I consider this to be a public service act. Anyone can write reviews, but I'm posting actual photos here so you can see the conditions for yourself. If you're looking for a good price, clean unit, safe space, where health codes are respected, and the ability to speak with customer service or an individual who can help you when you do run into an issue, bring your hard earned dollars elsewhere. Lastly, do not pay for anything online! My belongings didn't spent 1 hour in the unit, and I was charged for the full month. To this day, the Los Angeles regional manager (who I was directed to speak with) still hasn't returned my calls. Let's see if anyone responds to this. read more

Bait and switch! Avoid Public Storage at all costs! I reserved a unit online for a discounted price, $1 the first month, and a discounted monthly rate thereafter. Completed online check-in, and moved in shortly thereafter. When I arrived on move-in day with all of my stuff and went to the office, they told me that someone else had rented the unit I reserved. Apparently, when you "reserve" a unit, you don't actually reserve it. Not sure what the point of reserving a unit online would be then, or why they even have this function available. Other than to make people think they are getting a deal until they go to move in and find that they will be paying a much higher price. The location manager, Mario told me that luckily they had another unit the same size as what I reserved. But it was coming up at a much higher (30%) monthly rate and didn't have the $1 first month special I reserved. He told me I could go ahead and pay the full amount now, and that he would work with his district manager to get me a credit for the months going forward. Then after moving my things in, a few days later, he called me and told me that he had talked to his manager and they wouldn't be giving me a credit because the unit "didn't qualify". And that going forward, I would be paying the much higher rent than what I was quoted when I "reserved" the unit. I should have walked away the first day in the office when the bait and switch occurred, but Mario was a nice guy and I believed he would work it out. After him calling me, I reserved a much less expensive storage, nicer facility, and cleaner unit at Storquest on Hill St, it was a completely better experience! Got the reserved price, no move issues, etc. I instantly knew I had made the right decision. Highly recommend them over Public Storage, the difference is night and day. If you are looking for storage, check them out and avoid Public Storage. I promptly moved my things out of Public Storage a few days later. I was there for about a week in total. I disputed the charge with Amex, and they reversed the charge. Then, about a week ago, the district manager calls me and says I have a balance due. Because of the charge reversal, Public Storage shows I have an unpaid balance! I spoke to the district manager, told him what happened, asked for a credit, and he told me there was nothing he could do for me. Had to pay the balance to avoid getting a collection on my credit report. I will never do business with the crooks at Public Storage. I rarely write reviews, but want to warn as many people as possible so they can avoid what happened to me. read more

The rates are outrageous! - I agree with Paul B - raised for no reason. It should be illegal to raise these rates so soon after another rate increase last year- my unit is now going up to $497/month.
