I needed a space to park my cargo trailer for about two months, so I went online and reserved what appeared to be a suitable space. I paid and arrived the next day, only to find out it was an enclosed garage with a door that was far too low for my trailer to fit through. I went to the front desk for help, but no one was there. I called the number posted on the door, but it was just an automated line. Later that day, I finally reached someone and explained the situation. I was told I'd be charged a $29 service fee to cancel, but they'd "probably take care of it." I was told someone would call me--no one ever did. After several follow-ups, I received a small refund for the lock they require you to rent, but not the full $161 I had paid. My cancellation was being treated as if I had moved out, even though I never moved in. Eventually, I was told I'd receive a full refund by check (not back to my card) within 3-4 weeks. Five weeks later--nothing. I called again, was reassured the check was coming, and was told it would include the $29 fee. When the check finally arrived, it was missing the $29 fee I was told would be refunded. Nearly two months later, I'm still out the $29 and have spent far too much time chasing down something that should have been handled in a single phone call. A little bit of basic customer service or human decency could have gone a long way. Very disappointing experience. I'll be sure to recommend my friends and family look elsewhere. read more

Public Storage - A warning - Self Storage Near Me - Overland Park, Kansas

This facility charged us for an extra month after closing our account and telling us we had no additional fees to pay. I started getting calls from "collections" saying we didn't pay a $38 charge, yet never received any emails, or calls from public storage telling us that we had outstanding charges. Collections keeps calling and only wants payment over the phone instead of mailing us an invoice... After reading the reviews it sounds like they do this a lot. read more

Im freaking out cause was automatically charged on my card for another month but dont want to stay. Especially after reviews on mice issue. But came to leave one on the issue im surprised not to have read about this location on mastin in overland park. Which is its next to the hazardous waste plant of johnson county. So the smell is unacceptable Especially if have nice furniture to store like I have. Which also am freaking out cause supposed to be a big storm tonight and i agree with the dorrs not being weather proofed. I camt get in the unit to cover my stuff with tarps ao afraid of rain comes in woth the winds they are expecting that i will have a hige loss on my hands. So counting down till they open hiping to beat the weather. This is ridiculous and I hope to get refund to go back to the location on long street in Lenexa. They are clean and drainage is never an issue. Cant comment on the staff at Mastin location cause not delt with anyone yet. As thry have not been there when ive tried to come in to get out of unit and express concerns. The staff at long is Amazing however. Always around if habe issues and again only issues ever face there was that of my own fault. Like loosing my key. Even then they were helpful to help me look around parking lot see if lost it there. So they recieve a 5 starts. Nieman location alone gives it negative stars. I dont even feel safe and know my belongings are in danger every day longer they are stored there. read more

I am absolutely shocked how this location conducts so called business. I have made the worst mistake by trusting my property to a well known organization that NO ONE manages! I have rented a unit since Sept 2023 and I have NEVER, not ONE time have been able to see or speak to anyone onsite or even over the phone. How this location is still open for business is beyond me but I will do what I can do alert everyone and warn/prevent anyone from experiencing such a frustrating nightmare. I work for a very large local utility company and I have gotten the word out with hundreds of colleges as often as I can. This manger/owner of this location as scammed me without ever even speaking to me. But by not responding to my move out requests I have been making for 31 days now, on paper it still shows I'm renting this unit and now delinquent therefore I started receiving the only form of communication I've ever received which are generic text messages threatening a lien on my unit (starting April 15th)....... THAT I WANT TO MOVE OUT OF......SINCE MARCH 30!!!!!!!!!!!! I've started calling the district manager who is also a ghost. Oh and they have mice. I had to throw almost all of my kitchen items away. What motivates people in such a customer oriented business to literally care less about their reputation and affect they have on the public. Reserved a unit online, was asked for a move in date, I set a date and time. When I showed up at the date and time, no one was there. I called the manager and left a message. Never heard from him. I called customer service, they transferred me to the same number I had called and left a message at before. I called customer service back trying to get someone there so that I could get the unit. They told me that I could go ahead and pay for the unit and then gain access without the manager, but I really needed to see the unit before I committed financially. Basically, paying for the unit was my only option. I told them they lost a customer today. If I were you, I'd find another location to trust with your storage needs. I'd give the specific facility I dealt with at 11230 Mastin St. in Overland Park a negative rating if possible. I rented a unit and they neglected to inform me it was "self service." I showed up and there is nobody on site during the middle of the day. I was given a second floor unit and the elevators did not work. The restroom inside the facility was locked, so I had to walk over to a nearby business and ask if I could use their restroom. I could not get the management for the facility to respond to a phone call. I wound up finding a unit at another facility. The company did refund my rental fee, but whoever is in charge of that particular facility never bothered to return a call. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a self storage facility. Avoid at all costs. read more

Climate controlled Storage unit was dirty I had to sweep it before I could put my items in it - floors as well as cob webs on the walls the elevators In the lobby are tricky to work once you put your code in you have limited time to get on the elevators not what I've ever encountered at any storage units the floors by the elevator were also dirty to be fair this could have been done earlier in the day prior to my arrival read more

So far so good. I got to the facility and the gate was wide open. Went to my storage location and it was clean and was able to move a few things in as I go. No interaction with anyone yet so can't speak to that. doors are pretty rough and I went to purchase something for the bottom as there's no way it's stopping rain. Let's see starting move in day you have to buy locks no one told you about. Reported twice to get roll up door fixed and still no contact. The doors are old and rickety no weather stripping to keep snow, rain etc from getting under. Lots not cleared of ice even a week after storms. I fell on ice and hit my head hard concerned I might have a concussion. No one ever in the office even during stated office hours. read more

I wish I could select a zero. I have had many storage units. I have NEVER ever had an issue like this. I paid for insurance, however, because it's a "vermin" issue they will only pay UP TO $250. Are you kidding!? These were my belongings!!! Anything cloth or wood is completely ruined by mice/rat pee and poop, spiders and their eggs, termites, and water damage. I was told I could come during normal business hours so the manager could take photos. I have not been able to reach the woman all weekend. (I'll post business time and dates) I am absolutely furious and my heart I broken. Thank god though that many of my memories, such as pictures and baby books were spared. read more

Good location, well secured, professional staff, clean facilities, well maintained. I only wish I could use my own lock rather than the unique locking system at the facility, where I am required to buy their lock. Its is a small gripe in the big picture, but it is an expensive lock at $18 (that can only be used at PS facilities). read more

Drove me out to the storage unit I would be renting to have a look at the size top see if it was what I was looking for. He explained the details about the cost and payment method as well as selling me moving boxes and insurance. The whole process was fast and thorough. Great location but the management on this property gives new meaning to the word unprofessional. It is also worth mentioning that my wallet was stolen on property and the management informed me that there is no security footage to help apprehend the criminal. That does not give me a sense of security when utilizing the storage unit. I am currently searching for another unit. Do not rent here. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! I recently got in a bind with finances (went from two incomes down to one for a short period of time). It was in December and I was behind on Novembers rent and the current month. I had paid the month of November by the 5th of December. The property manager had called a few days later and said that I needed to pay the rent by the end of business on the 20th or my unit was going to auction. I asked the property manager if there was any way that he could work with me until the 23rd as that was my next pay period. The property manager had said that by law he was required to send the unit to auction and there was nothing he could do. I called BULL on that! By Kansas state law, the unit has to be in delinquency for 45 days to have the option to send to auction as well as two registered letters needed to be sent notifying of up coming auction of abandoned property. My account was delinquent, but by 20 days not 45 and I had received no registered letters to notify me of such an upcoming auction. If you run into a bump in a road, do not expect anyone to give you any kind of grace period and expect them to try to use scare tactics to get you to pay. One last thing, this place charges a hundred dollars more a month than any other competing storage facility. They rope you in with good initial prices and then change the monthly rate on you once you have had a few months with them. Granted I probably should have read the rental agreement from front to back, but I figured a big chain like this would be fair and not do what has been done. I will never rent from a public storage again and strongly urge anyone looking here to shop around more. read more
