In just four short years the rent doubled to over $104 for a climate controlled 5x10 unit! Annoyed, I decided to check out the competition and found StorageMart. It was not only closer to my house, but cleaner, in a better area, safer with secured garage docks and carts for unloading, and best of all it's more reasonably priced at just $57 (close to the price I first paid 4 years ago at the other place) with the first month free! As an added bonus, Don, provided friendly and courteous service. He didn't just hand me a paper with gate codes, he walked me through it and showed me around. I would have been fine on my own, but the extra service was appreciated. If you think storage is storage, you're wrong! Don't become a complacent sucker just because you don't want to deal with moving your stuff. Places like Public Storage apparently take advantage of that and raise rates often within the same year, hoping you'll just go along with it. Do your homework and find out there's a better way to store your items. For now, that place is StorageMart, but don't think I won't be keeping them honest. Oh yeah, I'm watching you StorageMart. With this in mind I called this facility for my own storage needs to ask about rates and if it might also go up after several months or if the price was reliable long term. At first the woman I spoke seemed very professional and knowledgeable. But she began to give me the run around. Not only do their prices change seasonally, they can't tell you how much a unit will cost more than 10 days in advance because they do dynamic pricing (lots of units available = cheaper). I understand this approach to pricing but it was as if she was doing her very best not to admit it by giving me long, unnecessarily complicated explanations and repeating herself rather than saying it simply, as I just did for this review. I moved on to another question. Is there an option for committing for a longer period of time (ie: 1 year) for a better rate or to guarantee the same price every month? While she mentioned that we are welcome to prepay for a year, she would not directly say if this was or not a possibility to guarantee our rate for any period of time. Then she went back into describing dynamic pricing again. Either she is the worst communicator in the world, or she was trying to avoid having to say, "no, there's no way to guarantee your rent will not go up after you move in. She also alluded to it all comes down to what I might be able to "negotiate with the manager." Sounds like trying to buy a car! I finally gave up when it was clear she was never going to give me a straight answer.
