Over the past year, my rent for a 10x10 unit has increased significantly. It went from $78 to $157, then to $212, and now they're attempting to raise it again to $301. Horrible place to rent from. Had a unit here for way too long and saw the rent more than double. It flooded multiple times, the freight and regular elevator broke frequently and usually took weeks to repair. Never received any concessions on rent for the inconvenience of having water damage nor being able to use the elevators. read more

False advertising when it comes to climate control. The space we're in is advertised as such but the building is constantly overheated and the humidity levels feel high. Also, after two months our rent was raised like 30% and was just notified today, which places us in the 5mo range, that our rent is going up nearly $70 which is like a 60% increase and we didn't even receive a full 30 days notice. they nearly doubled their prices in about a year. my unit go broken into, I was told by smashing the door. Then the company broke contract by cutting my lock off the mangled door without giving me notice. The contract specifically says they would give notice if my personal lock needed to be cut, but they did not. I could have walked over and unlocked it myself! Then they tried to replace it with a cheap $5 Temu model (which they sell for 19.99 up front). i refued, I requested a replacement of the original $50 lock, but was only approved for $25. Really the price hikes bothers me the most. read more

Pricing: Exploitative, renter beware. After two years they had increased my cost over 50% (from $86 to $133). I then learned that new units equivalent to mine were renting for $58. I had to rent a new unit and will need to move all of my stuff over; they refuse to price match and let me remain in my space. It's price gauging and manipulation at its finest. They are relying on people not being in town and not able to move units and just accepting the exorbitant rent increases. Security: I've stored stuff safely for two years but in the last couple months another unit had $10k stuff stolen because the ceilings here are just chicken wire. Thieves rented a unit, cut the wire above their unit and crawled over to another unit, cut through again, and stole many valuables. I will be moving my stuff elsewhere. The elevator is frequently out. Today, we went at 0915 with a bunch of Xmas decorations loaded up. Both elevators had signs saying the elevators are down. Called the property manager who did not return our call for 2 hours, so we returned home. When she did call back, she did not apologize, said a door would be propped open for us to carry our stuff in to the 4th floor. There was a homeless man in the lobby with all of his stuff/ another homeless man was wandering in and out. One of the stairwells had a door that someone obviously tried to pry open and did a decent job. 90% of the reason we have a storage space is for Xmas stuff. There were other cars there that had the same idea as us and also left being unable to access their unit. I'm never going to go back when it's dark and I can't believe no one is answering the phone at 0900 during a weekend when everyone is taking down Xmas decorations. I have lots of friends who are property managers/ that's a horrible response time. You can see that someone lives on site there because their apartment is visible from the road and has an amazing view of the lake. read more

Horrible! I stored items at the Public Storage on Fairview and within one week it was ALL stolen. Staff took no accountability: there was no sympathy or help. The staff didn't even know their way around their own unit and were quite rude during my time of distress. Clearly not safe to store your items - we lost everything. I cannot recommend a place less. Pick a new company or at a minimum a different location. This has happened to other people as well!!! read more

Highly deceptive pricing practice! They get you in on "low rates" and then jack these rates up only after a few months knowing very well that you are locked in. My rates went up by 15%! And when I called to complain, the customer service representative was extremely rude and unhelpful. Seems like a pattern as saw other reviews below too that had the same. The staff was very friendly and helpful when I went in to rent a space. The space was perfect and felt very secure! My payments went up about $10 after my introductory period ran out, but it was still pretty affordable. A few things I don't like; the codes are SO long! I've been using this space for almost two years now and I still don't know my code by memory. Using the hand trucks is kind of a pain because the office is outside of the gate so after you enter your long code to get in, park your car, and go out the pedestrian door you have to enter your long code again to get back through the car gate. I think there should be a pedestrian door with a code, to make it more convenient. Maybe there is and I just missed it? My only other complaint they don't really have control over; the location of it can be really annoying to get to during high traffic areas, since it's right next to the Mercer St. freeway entrance/exit. When you go access your unit make sure it's not during any rush hours! Otherwise, I always felt the pricing was clear and if I had questions the staff was always kind and helpful. Shady business practices: do not opt for their insurance, and do not believe them when they promise the rent increase will be small. After doing some research & finding out that Public Storage had a class-action judgement against them for forcing customers to purchase their in-house insurance, I confirmed my renter's insurance covered my possessions adequately and cancelled their insurance. Within a month they then raised my rent by over 60%. While they bait you with a competitive initial rate, they will pull the switch on you & leave you feeling violated. Avoid this company unless you plan on using the unit for only a few months. read more

Moving out of my apartment into house under renovation, so needed to put some things in storage and move some to house. SLU location fit the bill as they were close to the I5 and had extended hours. I was happy I could do the check in based on email/text when arriving. The day came and the movers and I loaded up the truck. Our first stop was at Public Storage to leave about half of my stuff. I was able to get in the gate ok. The email said building 2, although the buildings were not marked. I knew I was on the third floor, so tried entering the two buildings at 4 different points. My code did not work on any of the 4-5 keypads I tried. I left the main gate to go to the office, to see if there was anyone. I re-entered the gate. So, the code works on the gate, and I am entering it correctly. Try all entry points again. Call customer service, which is not local. I explain that I am there with movers who I am paying and all of my stuff, she says that she cannot provide any more help than what the email says and I should come back a different day. I try entering my code again, and call again. The second lady is more helpful. She resets my code, calls her district manager who does not answer, and says at this point there is nothing she can do. I ask for a refund, she says because its not within 24 hours of the reservation, there is nothing she can do. I mention that I am paying for a service that they cannot provide. If this is normal service, I just chose the wrong business, but if its unusual, then I should not have to pay. She said I can call her manager, but they will not change their policy for me. I don't know what to do. I think about having the movers leave all my stuff and I can sleep in my car in the gate until the morning when the office opens, but a lot of the stuff needs to go to my house as well. In the end, I move everything that will fit into the renovated part of my house, take the rest back to the apartment, and will have to look into extending my rent. I called the location this morning. Julian was more helpful, and said he would see what I did and provide a refund. He called me back and was a little condescending. He said I did not try the elevators, just the access doors, and since my room was 30xx, I should have known it was on the third floor. Frankly, I tried my code everywhere I could. I did enter one elevator, but because the code did not work, it did not go up. I was surprised that he did not say sorry for the inconvenience, but I imagine with this company situations like this are typical, and saying sorry might be like saying hi to your office mate each time you pass them throughout the day. Anyway, the parking lot is nice. The location is nice. Rent for the first month is reasonable. The buildings could be marked better, or the email could be more descriptive. Customer service could have more responsibility and ownership. In the end, I was made to feel like it didn't work because I was not smart enough, and in a sense, after wasting lots of money on moving, its clear I am not. A week later and no refund. If I could give a negative rating, I would. This one star isn't because they deserve a little credit or some minimal sort, but because there is no other way to express extreme, total and complete devastation at the hands of an unscrupulous, predatory and entirely corrupt business enterprise. This business is designed to take advantage of people they don't believe have the mental capacity or competency to challenge their unlawful activities. They work their contract language so it is ambiguous, do not allow for any interpretation but their own, and they have your things in their possession so they can say "sue me" knowing your things will be gone by the time you can. I believe they work with other storage companies in the area to steal your belongings, one way or another. I believe they are an organized group of persons intentionally engaging in bad faith business practices who lure in people like me, older single women on disability who need that $1 first month rent break. I lost two 10 x 20 units and the person who bought them supposedly was the only bidder at an auction that normally is attended by up to 50 buyers. He purchased both units for $1 or 50 cents each, supposedly. His phone number, coincidentally, was the same as other PODS that I was going to move my things to from Public Storage once I get into my units. They managed to hold me out of my storage so I couldn't sell anything to make up any for the back rent or late fees or lien fees, and they added up all sorts of extra fees (like charging me for locks at $40 that they had cut off when I had already paid, and so should have replaced for free...but they refused to do that and wouldn't let me in until I bought new locks from them, not somewhere else). They never returned my personal paperwork - three file cabinets full of family photos, legal documents, memorabilia like my children's mother's day cards and artwork, etc. It was horrible. I have never been more abused by a business and more blatantly taken advantage of. They are definitely "smooth" in their b.s. and they lie about what they agreed to or what they wrote onto the contract, too. They said the person who agreed to the terms didn't have the authority to do so, and that meant I was s.o.l. After building up a life following a devastating divorce that left me penniless, jobless and with nothing but the debt of the marriage, I had managed to get a business and start over, and these people took it from me without a second thought. I have not yet recovered, and am homeless and on disability and food stamps to this day. Every hope of a life after divorce was wrapped up with my belongings, all my savings, all my future. It's gone. Public Storage is an example of how heartless and cruel some people can be. Anyone working there cannot have a soul - or must not have been fully trained yet. Do not use them. Do not pay them. Do not work with them or near them or with anyone who has any connection with them. I am sure they are responsible for some suicides when someone like me tries everything possible and works in good faith at utmost capacity, makes their rent, but then gets screwed with late fees, lien fees, lock fees, debit card fees, transfer to a different bank fees, you name it. And oh, all of it on the 1st of the month not the 3rd like they agreed when I signed up, Awful human beings. if they even are. This happened in 2018 and I am still in shock and despair. I have PTSD from my divorce, and they played on that as well. These people have a special place in hell waiting for them. read more

They jacked up the price shortly by almost 20% shortly after I moved my stuff in. Lame! I will be moving out again as soon as I can figure out where. But of course they have you over a barrel once you're moved in. Pretty deceptive and unethical leasing practices I would say. I was not even a day late on my payment and I got a $93 surcharge on a $178 payment. Then I pay in full, and three hours later I get an email with a lien notice on my unit. Then when I call customer service, which is impossible to talk with a human, she tells me to ignore that threatening lien notice and that the systems aren't connected. What garbage. The property manager of this location may be congenial, but this is a horrible customer experience all-up that is clearly designed to gouge customers. read more
