This is one of the worst Publix in the area. I used to find it convenient even though there's a much nicer location very close to where I live but with the Target next door to this one I would kill two birds with one stone. That is until a few weeks ago when I was chased down in the parking lot after loading my trunk and putting my carriage away with a worker yelling out "YOU NEED TO COME BACK INSIDE YOU DIDN'T PAY!!!!" I was confused at first as I knew I did pay and secondly annoyed as the very elderly gentleman who had served me had taken a very long time to do so and I was now in a rush to get to my next location. Upon being "escorted" back inside by this worker I pulled up my Bank of America app and saw that I had in fact been charged for what I bought at Publix. I let this man know and with his adrenaline running he said "you'll have to work it out with them!" finally we reach a manager who became apologetic and stated that the old man who rung me up then continued to serve another customer on my bill ...going to MY CARD. Yet I was made to look like I had robbed the place in the parking lot. How quickly this employee's reaction went from thinking he had found a huge thief to completely sheepish. All in all it was an okay run while it lasted (I say okay because as previously mentioned it's not that great of a Publix to miss in the first place) but on principal I will never ever shop here again. read more

So grateful to have This Publix so close to home. It has THE very best Produce Dept I have ever seen in Boston, Minneapolis, Brooklyn Heights, Westchester County! Our beloved internist Dr Adamarie Multari in Executive Health at Mayo Clinic told us just before retiring," we don't know HOW it works or why yet, but eat a lot of fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. It does incredible things for your body!" Everything in this Produce Dept is in super pristine AMAZING shape thanks to the staff scouring and meticulously extracting pieces that are deteriorating. Ask any staff how to tell when the fruits ripen. The black plums are heavenly in their sweet nectar juiciness when soft. I add slices to my ripe melon salads with thin slices of banana! During corn season there were tables piled high at a great price and by evening everyday, they were left bare. I love the white corn and yellow/ white corn that you put in a pipping hot steamer for just 3 minutes. Beet greens and fresh apricots have the highest amount of natural vitamin A - - combats/ helps prevent cancer. My dad, a prof of biochemistry, gave us skills in preventive medicine and counseled us against preservatives and hydrogenated fats in foods. This store has wonderful vaulted ceilings going up 15 + feet streaming beautiful rays of sunshine upon us as we peacefully shop. This past year they modernized and greatly improved/ made much safer the entire walking area in the front of the store. And finally, this store is SO clean, and I truly enjoy ALL the delightful staff throughout the store ( many have been there for years ). Need help/ have a question/ order meat with the butcher? I live right by this Publix and the grocery store part is good but every single time - without fail - when I go to get a sub the employees are so untrained. It's always someone over the age of 55 who has no idea what they are doing, and it's like they've never even stepped into a Publix before. I will ask for the name of a sub on the menu and they look at me completely baffled, as if I'm speaking some sort of alien language. read more

Superior service. Jenny who I believe is a manager or supervisor, went to look for a product I couldn't find after my cashier asked for help. I was trying a new recipe that required Hominy whole kernel which apparently is not readily available. She took over 10 minutes but w help of a stock boy was able to locate 4 cans for me. After running all over town I didn't mind the wait and really appreciated the length of trouble Jenny went to so I could make my dish. My hat is off to you Jenny! read more

My wife was recently in publix store # 409? Palmer ranch plaza and had an experience with stocker Jose and after going round and round and not able to find the item herself she found Jose stocking shelves and asked him to point her to the item. Instead of just saying it was in aisle # he stopped what he was doing and led her to the item and pointed it out to her, and then asked if she needed anything else as he would be happy to help her. She thanked him for his help. Jose in our opinion went over and beyond and exemplifies why shopping is a pleasure at Publix read more

Publix is great but the people at checkout disturb me. One guy got really agitated that we did not go in his lane when a close one was more convenient for us . Then I get talked to rudely by a worker for not bringing the cart up so the bagger can put bags in. Seriously? read more

We are from out of town but were impressed with the reviews. Overall, Publix lived up to our expectations. It's clean. It's huge. It has everything you're looking for. Update: Publix brand yogurt is amazing! $.50 and there are so many flavors! Try the guava, apple pie, coconut, mandarin orange...they're all so good! read more

I'm only making this review because this scenario has happened three times now. I occasionally ask for paper bags, especially when I only have a few items(not that I need to justify my reasoning). And now, for the third time, the cashier gave me an attitude for it. What is wrong with THIS location? It ONLY happens at this Publix. I've been to others where it doesn't faze the cashier. However, the cashiers here like to make it known that they disapprove. Maybe you all aren't paying your cashiers enough, or maybe you have a poor hiring team. Publix is an ok store but they have started only giving half value on coupons when applied to BOGO items! Winn Dixie is down the street and doesn't do this. Guess I'll have to take my shopping and coupons elsewhere. read more

Publix is a decent grocery store that has some really great things that they offer (fried and rotisserie chickens, pre-made subs, salads and small meals and side dishes, like meatballs, mashed potatoes, grilled veggies and other good deli options. The bakery is not great at this location (I've been to other locations where the bakery is much bigger and has a lot of different items. What's bothersome about this location is that lack of consistency. For a few weeks, they have (for instance) packages of 2 dozen M&M cookies, and then for months, the only M&M cookies they offer are the extra large ones behind the bakery counter that you can buy for something like $1.50/each. We have learned that pretzel rolls (a favorite at our house) are often available frozen if they aren't on the shelf. You just have to ask one of the people working at the bakery to look for you. Some are more friendly and open to this than others. One of the things I find extremely annoying about Publix is their penchant for pre-packaging many different produce items. It's so frustrating to me that I can't choose 2-3 zucchini and bag them myself. They come in packages of two. This is the same for many different fruits and vegetables and it drives me crazy enough that I frequently bypass their produce section altogether and go to Fresh Market, Trader Joe's or one of the fresh fruit & veggie stands available in St. Petersburg. Finally, for a city that's on the Gulf of Mexico and has some of the best fishing and seafood around, Publix has a paltry and extremely mediocre selection of seafood. Much of it is frozen (or has been frozen), comes from other locations, and although they offer relatively decent pre-made sushi, they don't offer sushi-grade tuna or yellowtail. They could do so much better when it comes to their seafood selection. Overall, I would say that Publix is a good choice for your basic refrigerator and pantry items. Your basic eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, frozen pizzas, deli items, chips, pastas, canned and boxed items. However, when it comes to their "fresh" food - produce, meat, seafood and bakery - I would spend the time and money to go to different locations (like Fresh Market). read more

The store - immaculate. The staff - friendly, helpful and always smiling. The food - costs and variety are superb. For almost 22 years I have been a Publix shopper. In just a few months I will be leaving Sarasota for Maryland and you know what I'll miss most about Florida? Not the beautiful award winning beaches. Not the postcard towns and villages. Not the year-long great weather. (Although I will miss it all.) It is shopping at Publix. When on crutches the staff bent over backwards to help me. I look forward to seeing their kind friendly faces. My daughter travels the world and the first thing she wants when she gets to Sarasota is a Publix turkey sub.
