Decent food, friendly service, and a nice atmosphere. Would consider it again. We didn't enjoy this visit as much as our Puckett's in Nashville visit. The pork was very fatty which was disappointing for two people who really prefer less fat. Daughter's Piggy Mac was very fatty and oily. I wonder if it was extra oily because of the multiple chunks of fat. The fried okra could've been more done. Reading the other reviews, order it extra crispy. The pork was delicious but I didn't realize how fatty it was until I was eating my wife's leftovers. Too much fat, seriously. The smoked brisket hamburger steak was good. Next time I'll get it with mashed potatoes instead of rice. Chicken fried chicken was delicious. If the $7.99 small salad is the same as the side salad then it is not worth it. Wanted the meatloaf and a deep fried brownie but they were out of both items early on a Saturday.

Very mediocre. I ordered the catfish and it came with fries and mini pancakes. Catfish is a bit soggy and I ended up with really hard bones. The only reason I gave it three stars was because the piece of catfish was large. Fries are not seasoned well kinda seemed undercooked. I don't like pancakes so I didn't eat those.

I have to update my previous review and unfortunately I now see why they have so many bad reviews. My first visit was great, food and service were both good but tonight I just ordered a side salad and 6 wings, it took over a half hour to get my food and the wings came without the sauce I ordered and were over cooked and dry. The salad was okay must have been sitting while they were cooking the wings because the lettuce seemed to be at room temperature. I hope they can get things fixed because when they get it right it is good. One other disappointment was they are a smokehouse/bbq restaurant and they only offer ribs as a special on a couple of days a week, this should be a staple of any decent bbq place....

I wouldn't even leave a 1 star review. Terrible service, food was cold. Didn't even know drink orders.

They open at 7am for breakfast and their breakfast is AMAZING! Plenty of platters to choose from but my fave is the Kings French Toast!

Is this the same Pucketts as the one in Franklin, Tenn?

Yes, it is a franchise of the original in Franklin, TN. They also have one in Chattanooga and a few other places.

Also came with the slaw on the top - good. The pork was tender and well-trimed, but I didn't catch much smoke. We had a side of fries, they were nice and fat, but not super warm. We had a side of green beans. They were a little overcooked but had a nice flavor, with a slight bit of a pickled flavor. Good value for the price.

This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

The melted cheese was cold. Well, it was all cold. I asked for some barbecue sauce because I did not see any on the plate. The sauce tasted like ketchup. My friend agreed. We pushed our plates aside. When the server, Morgan, came to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, we ordered the pecan pie alamode. It was wonderful. We were very surprised that she did not ask how our meals were. My friend and I agreed that we would tell Morgan our thoughts of the meal when she asks, "How was everything?". But she did not ask. Surprisingly, she didn't even say that she hoped we enjoyed everything. We were each charged 75 cents each for the tiny pods of sauce. Each of our tickets were $24. Yes we could have and most likely should have, shared our distaste for the taste and quality of our meals. Maybe Morgan doesn't like the food either. LOL! I hope this information is helpful.

The atmosphere was great and we were not rushed to leave. Highly recommended.

Not wanting to wait until we got back to Birmingham to get some grub, we pulled off in Dodge City looking for a spot that had a few solid reviews. Alas, the place we sought was no longer around, and Jim B's BBQ was the only thing around that looked acceptable. We decided to take a chance on the place (even though the sign reads Jim B's BBQ, Steak and Seafood, and I typically steer clear of anyplace that claims multiple specialties that includes seafood). We might have skipped the place over, but I was hungry and as we pulled up, you could smell the BBQ in the parking lot. Being first-timers, the friendly waitress steered us to the Loaded Mushrooms (think loaded baked potato, but instead of a potato under all of that cheese and ranch and bacon, its fried mushrooms). They were as good as they sound. The prices were so cheap and the BBQ smelled so good, I decided to go all-in and got the BBQ sampler platter. My wife picked the pulled pork sandwich. Everything was great. The baked beans were even awesome (sweet and bacony), and I'm really not a huge bean fan. The BBQ pork had a good smoke flavor. The chicken was juicy. The smoked sausage was good and seemed to be very fresh. The ribs were a little dry, but they were very tender. To top it all off, with as much food as we ordered, our bill was just over $30 including tip. The dry ribs are the only thing keeping them from five stars on this visit. I'm probably spoiled by all of the good BBQ in the South, but I just can't give five stars to a BBQ joint unless all of the que is top notch.
