Inside the place is super cute and it's open late but unfortunately the food... es no bueno. My friend lives down the street and tried to warn me but it was sooo late and he has no human food in his apartment and I was so pissed about being alive because of how hungry I was so we came, we saw, I ordered one to two of everything. Again, inside is adorable. Def a place I'd like to sit down and dip some chips in a vat of salsa. Service after 1am is what you'd expect from a person who clearly wanted to be home and in bed by 9pm but is stuck behind a counter. My veggie quesadilla was huge but it was also something I took 3 bites of and gave up. My veggie tacos seemed to be made with as little TLC as possible. I finished part of one but without any additional salsa or sauce given, it just was not worth the stomach real estate. The egg burrito was perhaps the most disappointing. If depression were a food, it would look a lot like like this how this burrito looked and how I then felt. And maybe this place is world's better if you eat it there, but taking it to-go, the whole order was a real disappointment from beginning to end. If you are going here (and you should- don't take my word for it, I'm just one person) I'd recommend staying and dining in over taking anything to go. Next time I stay over at my friend's place I'll be more prepared for late night munchies so I can avoid spending $35 on food I don't want to finish. read more

Stopped in before a movie at the Logan theater. Five stars for cleanliness and ambiance but frozen margarita was ok at best but not for the money they charge. Service was cold and unfriendly. The real kicker was "nacho plate" which was by far the SKIMPIEST and poorest excuse for nachos I have ever seen. I was embarrassed for them. They laid out like ten chips and smothered them in bland beans and cheese. Only five dollars but even if you have to charge more give something presentable. I should have taken a picture. It's open late. Reasons why I would never recommend you end up here before 3am: 1. Service is horrendous. They seat you and then they abandon you. Your waitress will come back and take your order in 20 minutes. You better order everything you could ever want then because she's not coming back for another 20 minutes. 2. Food is mediocre. Quesadillas are mediocre and greasy. They don't come with sour cream or salsa so you best savor some of that salsa that came with the chips. The chips that they won't refill because the waitress will forget about it. My friend ordered milanesa and it was inedible. Another friend ordered the carne asado burrito and he said it tasted really bland. 3. They don't really split checks (max 2 cards per table) and they only accept cash tips. Looking for some Mexican takeout during the pandemic try this place! Convenient location for pick up in Milwaukee ave right off Logan Square. We ordered a steak burrito dinner and a taco trio. Both meals came with rice and refried beans which was nice as a few other places in the area charge extra for that. The steak burrito was huge and very filling, lots of meat! The taco trio was nice because they allow you to mix and match, I ordered 2 chicken and 1 pork, both were delicious. The order came with a free bag of chips and red salsa. They also threw in a spicy green salsa which was our favorite. Great authentic Mexican for a great price. We will be back for more! read more

I must be a masochist because I keep going to this place again and again despite the punishment. The only reason, really, is that it's basically right next door to the Logan Theater. And the way I'll say it is that you want to go here after a movie at the Logan Theater and not before it. I have never seen a place that doesn't cater to anyone in a hurry. If you tell them you're in a hurry, apparently they hear this as, "keep filling my water, but please, never, ever bring the check." I've been there numerous times and I swear that once, when it got to be 5 minutes before the movie I was going to see (I had arrived a good 45 minutes before showtime), I walked up to the counter, slammed down a solid bill, and walked out the door. They've let me back in so that's something, I guess. And the sad thing is, the food's not even worth the aggrevation. They have decent chili rellenos but everything else on the menu is just disgusting. I've never had such dry rice in my life. It's cheap enough. The specials being $7.95 work out to pretty much an even $10. Well, an even $8 if you're not as generous with tipping bad service as I am. I think the staff is usually more interested in chatting behind the bar and watching the White Sox games showing on the giant televisions than admitting there are customers. So will I be back? I was out with a group of friends and family. We finished watching a movie at the Logan theater and were about to leave until the open 24hr sign caught my eye. I said "Let's just have a taco and take it to go." I like trying tacos where ever I go so I figured lets give it a try. I walked into the restaurant and it seemed very roomy. I told the lady at the counter that it was to go. Apparently, there are two different menus depending on dining in or take out. The order was 3steak tacos, 1shrimp taco (came with 3 shrimp),and a fish taco. For drinks: 2tamarind waters and 1 Jamaica(hibiscus) water Steak Taco- WORST taco I have ever had. The amount of meat was insufficient for the size of the tortilla(corn/flour) and plenty of cilantro and onions. The flavor was none existent. The worst part was that there were pieces of something super chewy in it that were inedible. I thought a steak taco meant only steak It was about $2.50 plus tax Shrimp Taco- It seemed like they cook the shrimp in a mix of onion and a red non spicy sauce. The taco was mostly the mix with 3 shrimp WTH $3.?? My husband said "It was a $1 a shrimp" In a quarter taco Fish Taco- Seemed to be steamed and just seasoned with salt and pepper. It came with cilantro and onions. It was edible but nothing out of this world. About $3.?? The drinks how very sad The Jamaica was full of habiscus particles and it was a little thick Last time I checked it's not suppose to be thick. It didn't even taste like it's suppose to. We ordered 2 tamarind waters because we were looking forward to it and not all restaurants offer it. The tamarind water was a total disappointment. It was also thick and tasted like it had been sitting there for a while. It tasted very acidic and almost fermented. We ended up with the habiscus because my husband thought he had ordered tamarind We told the waitress if we could switch it since he hadn't drank any. She said there was no way SMH We laughed it off and her expression was so monotone. So we paid for another one. Small drink $2.?? Look, I have been cooking since I was 9 and I know when something is not fresh. RUDE SERVICE! I've been going to La Puebla on a regular basis for 4 years now, ever since I moved into the neighborhood. Admittedly, I like the food, however, I will never again be a customer due to my last experiences... Firstly, they ALWAYS screw up my phone orders, so when I pick up, the first thing I do is check the bag and let them politely know what they got wrong. Hey, I get it, there's a language barrier, no biggie...but all the servers respond the same- by looking at me like I've gone mad, and that I'm clearly the one thats made the mistake. One instance I ordered cheese on my tacos, when I brought this to their attention, not only did they make me feel like I did something wrong, but when I received the tacos back with cheese, they wanted to charge me for the cheese?! Where's the customer service? Well I didn't learn my lesson.... Another encounter- I order a taco dinner, chips and salsa...Get to my car, check the order and notice that the price was about $4 more than usual, and I received a chicken torta instead of chips and salsa. Ok, honest mistake.... Again, I politely explain. Again, with the dirty looks. She swaps the torta for the chips and salsa and blatently LIES to me and tells me they're the same price. What really pisses me off was that I actually tipped her generously (for a pick up order) before finding the mistake, and now she's trying to rip me off? It gets worse...my boyfriend and I went in for another pick up- unbenounced to them, he speaks fluent Spanish. When we left with our food, he was in a frantic rage! He explained- the servers were cursing and saying extremely nasty things about all the white patrons! So thats it. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I urge everyone to do the same. My experience with the service was pretty similar to other posters - trouble getting their attention, lukewarm reception, etc. I really feel compelled to talk about the food, and I have to say I had the worst tamales of my life here. I got a tamale plate with one red sauce and pork tamale, and one green sauce and chicken. The first thing I noticed when they put the plate down was that the closest thing to a vegetable was TWO peas, mixed in with the rice. Everything was beige and tasteless and lacking in texture. The tamales were thick and dry and hard. The corn part was mealy and gritty, and the meats in both were so tough that they were inedible. I couldn't eat them. I made a meal out of the chips and beans and awful pico de gallo (tasted like it was from a jar) and left. Never again, man. read more

I like Puebla. First of all they have Spanish Karaoke. The food is pretty predictably good, with high quality meats, and above average produce. Avoid the Nachos, though, as they are a total let down. Drunk me wanted to give this place 80bajillion stars. Unfortunately drunk me is not writing this review. Sober-ish me had the tacos again the next day and they weren't bad. They were not the best tacos I have ever had. But they were open late. These were 3am tacos mind you. Which in itself makes this place a godsend. Being within walking distance made it even better. You know what the more I think back on my experience here I have to add another star. (we're at 4 now for those keeping track) I mean the tacos were still alright when I was hungover. Up till that point all I was able to choke down was clear gummy bears(which aren't as bad as you'd expect on the way back up). I digress. I had steak tacos and a few bites of my drunk buddy's chimichanga. Which I'm still not certain is a real thing. I know you can get them from the gas station, but half the crap at taco bell isn't a "thing" either. Potatoe, tomato I guess. The guac held it's own. The salsa was good too, not too spicy and not just Clamato. The steak tacos were tasty and I didn't get a taco full of that grissly fatty crap chunks that you can't actually eat. So against my better judgement I'm going to do it. Right now. Boom, that's right. ONE. MORE. STAR. It turns out in retrospect this place was pretty awesome and I would now go there even sober. I, in fact, want to go there now. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. The staff was real kind as well. Looking for late night eats in Logan Square after having a few drinks at a bar. My friend found this restaurant was open at 2am, so we decide to try it out. We walk in and the place and there are other patrons. We pick a table sit down and the waitress comes up to us and asks us to move because that section was being closed. There was no partition or anything diving us from the rest of the restaurant, so we move two tables up, to the "non-closed" section. We order food. I ordered a Sope, taco, enchilada combo, that came with rice and beans. The food was not good. Having eating Mexican food and refried beans a good majority of my life, I can tell you those came from a can and they added nothing else, they had no flavor. My friend ordered nachos added steak to them. Her plate was literally one layer of chips. Each chip had beans spread on them, cheese, steak and guacamole. A friend suggested it, so we stopped there late one Saturday night. I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years and never checked it out, so I was excited to try out a new late night joint. The Ups: Karaoke, in mostly Spanish. The parties gathered there also seemed to be totally into it, so it made it more fun and made the 15+ minutes it took for anyone to come over and help us a little more entertaining. (I am not exaggerating about the time either. I work in the service industry). The location. Easy by bike, and not so far from the Logan Square Blue Line stop. The Downs: ...Basically everything else. It took a really long time to be greeted. Despite being only semi-busy, our food took a long time and when it did come out, 1 out of the 3 of us had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get their meal. Actually, my friend had eaten about 1/3 of my food before the server came over with the other dish. I know this can happen, but if you're the server, at least acknowledge it. Tell the table what's going on. The food itself was completely disgusting. I ordered shrimp fajitas and the shrimp tasted funny, like it had been marinated in butter and left to sit out for way too long before being cooked. My friend also ordered fajitas, but they only give you enough for one order and they don't come back so you might as well forget it. For $13.95, i could have gotten some amazing burrito at El Cid. The final straw though in this experience, was that at the end of the meal I noticed what looked like a cockroach on the table. A closer look, and I was right. My friend cornered the roach under a water glass and, completely disgusted, I walked over to the waiter to explain our new guest. At first I thought he was just not hearing what I was saying, but then he seemed to be argumentive until I explained in Spanish, loudly, that we needed a manager at the table. He came over to check the bug out and said "There is no cockroach." Funny, cause I'm pretty sure it's right in front of you. Then I asked for the manager again. She came over and said that "We never have bugs and this is a clean establishment." Sorry lady, but the evidence would seem to be eyeing up my leftovers from the inside of a water glass. After a lot of arguing, the manager offered to comp our bill. The waiter came over to ask what she decided on and rolled his eyes. We still left a $10 tip, and I honestly, couldn't tell you why. The meat had almost no flavor and the sauce that came on top of the burrito was bland and unimpressive. My friend ordered the El Pastor tacos which he enjoyed, along with a horchata that was as bland as the burrito. The waitress was kind and friendly, but also forgot several items and we had to ask for things multiple times before we got our entire order. I stick to these because I like them both and judging from the other reviews, I could find myself with some serious shits if I venture out. The margaritas are satisfying if you feel like paying for them. They will not serve you booze after 2am. This place has been empty every time I've gone, which is fine with me, because I'm not down with everyone else's 1am drunk chatter drowning out my own. When I get takeout I usually can't even finish a cigarette before it's ready, but I've had nights where I've waited 15 extra minutes while a waitress learned how to use the credit card machine. So it goes. Don't go here expecting ground-breaking Hispanic cuisine. It's after 9 and you're too drunk and you need FOOD in your STOMACH so stop bitching about how "dry" and "overcooked" everything is. This place rules. It's open 24hrs. So your options are limited late night if you want something cheap and fast that is not fast food. It's basically a late night Mexican diner experience. Aside from that, I've only really ordered their tacos, and I think they are pretty good. Better than decent. Just basic taqueria style tacos. It's a pretty big place, and everytime I've been there, it's mostly empty aside from a couple tables. So it's kind of a nice quiet diner atmosphere.
