I am not from Chicago but every time I visit I make sure to get the chilaquiles from Rosaiselas! I love chilaquiles and always order it if I find it on a menu, I've tried countless chilaquiles and I have NEVER ever found a chilaquiles as good as Rosaiselas. The only downside is it'll ruin you for other chilaquiles. Also note that it takes her a little bit of time to make. So we usually call ahead for pickup. It's so worth the wait. Wow, just found my new favorite burrito spot. When I looked down at my receipt and saw the price I thought for sure I was going to get this skimpy little burrito, but boy was I wrong. I love trying all mexican food from tortas to tacos but I judge my rating off of one dish that you just really can't mess up and that's a bean cheese rice burrito. What makes a good BRC? 1. Seasoned Rice 2. Melted Cheese 3. Crispy Tortilla This place had all of the above, the burrito was massive, and plus the salsa was freaking amazing! Hole in the wall on Fullerton. Prices aren't bad, but the food is pretty average. I ordered a steak burrito for $7 and while it was pretty large, there wasn't much steak inside. It was mostly rice. Regarding the insides, they asked if I wanted everything on it, and I said "yes, but hold the sour cream". They got that right, but the burrito only had steak, rice, lettuce and a little onion it it. What I was expecting? I just assumed it might have some cheese, avocado or beans in it. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed, but maybe on their menu they should list whats inside the burrito. Really like this spot. Randomly found it when Google recommended it for breakfast. As someone who loves breakfast sandwiches, Mexican/Latin food, and lunch counters/diners with short order cooks, this place has all that. The staff is friendly. When I walked in I was the only non-Latino/non-Spanish speaker, which to me was a good sign. There was no rush to pay (ate first), and they had news in Spanish on TV. Guys were coming and going, some taking breakfast to go, and others to stay and chat with the staff. I had the ham and egg sandwich with everything on it. Was super fresh and tasted very good. The bottles of red and green salsa helped kick the flavor up a notch. Next time I'll probably hold the lettuce. One guy ordered their chilaquiles. Looked good! Price is reasonable. Their tacos are delicious! I had the lechon (suckling pig) and the carne asada. They have really nice fresh red and green salsas that are homemade. They also have a homemade chile de arbol salsa if you want more heat. It's one of the best salsas I've ever tasted. You can taste the pumpkin seeds. The homemade tamarindo drink is great too. Tried the steak sandwich from Rosaiselas and it was pretty good. The thin skirt steak was a little overdone and chewy though. Bread was grilled and crispy. The creamy green salsa was hot and pretty tasty. They didn't have guacamole, and the quesadillas were pretty basic with not a lot of cheese. We got carry-out and ate next door at Jimmy Beans cafe. There isn't much seating as it's basically a counter and stools inside. I'll give them another try, especially to try the jibarito, mole rojo, empanadas, tostones, and tamales. Pretty good vegetarian options, and their menu is available on their FB page. A very good value for the money, but the quality could be a little better. I live down the black and love this little neighborhood spot. The lechon sandwich and tacos are amazing! While I normally come here for the Mexican food, the cheeseburger and fries are very good too. We just discovered this place today and OMG what a secret gem! Looks pretty standard from the outside but damn, am I glad we went in. I ordered the egg and ham sandwich with cheese and my boyfriend ordered the chicken quesadilla. We shared a side of fries and a pop- all for $15! The quesadilla was HUGE- we definitely could have shared it but it was so good my bf didn't mind overeating. My sandwich was the BOMB. I just came back from Puerto Rico and have been craving the food and this sandwich took me back to the island. The fries were also amazing, not just regular string fries but thick, seasoned ones. We paid and got a punch card. Every 8 visits, you get a free sandwich! Oh and also JAVY BAEZ goes here. There's a pic of him with the lady that cooks (who I assume is Rosa)- That's when you know the food is legit. Can't wait to go back to try their tacos and burgers. a treat! had biked by a number of times before stopping in with my roommate one random afternoon. as we sat outdoors (love their little patio), we saw a number of regulars coming in and out. the atmosphere is super homey and you can tell it's a family run place! we got a steak jibarito to split since we both weren't that hungry but wanted to try it especially since it was so affordable (around $7 bucks). the jibarito took a while to make since everything was fried and grilled fresh, but it was so worth the wait! the steak was so tender and well seasoned, the plantains perfectly crispy, and the acid and spice form the salsas balanced the sandwich perfectly! i also liked how the sandwich came with a decent amount of vegetables which added a nice texture. the sandwich was a bit messy to eat, but no crumbs were wasted since it was divine. would highly highly recommend this spot for great quality food, homey vibes, and fantastic memories!!! read more
