Food is great and has great flavor the horchata water is also good and the chilaquiles are bomb aswell

Went here for a lunch at about 2 PM on a Friday. The Taqueria is small and packed with people and tables. It is loud and you see lots of families there. You do order from your table and they have an extensive menu. First, they serve you chips and salsa - the salsa was outstanding! For my meal, I stuck with my usual, a Taco Meal (2 tacos), we also had a Three Taco Meal, and quesa birria taco meal, and drinks - a large Horchata and two sodas. I had one birria (goat) taco and one al pastor. The birria was tender and flavorful - no gaminess at all. And the Al Pastor was crisp and delicious. All of the food was great - outstanding. I have been to this restaurant a few times now and it has never disappointed me. In the past I have ordered the quesabirria con consomé, churros, and all their aguas frescas (horchata, tamarindo, jamaica). This time I ordered the molcajete to split with my fiancé and it was more than enough for us two- plus some to take home! The food is worth the value, the service is quick, and the restaurant is a good hole in the wall Mexican place. The last time I was there, there was a dead roach in the dessert display case and when I tried to quietly tell the lady about it she acted like I was being disruptive. This place has some of the best tacos I've had. And the pozole?...fire. I finally found a pozole that comes close to my grandma's..and that's saying a lot, also the horchata is surprisingly really good. I don't get that powdery taste at all so you know they're making it from scratch back there. New favorite north side taqueria!! Rest tacqueria on Belmont, about 3-4 blocks west of the blue line. This place is the real deal. I went with two chili relleno tacos on flour tortillas. I went with flour because the chilli rellenos are large and stuffed with chihuahua cheese. . The carne asada tacos was also very good. Definitely want to go back and try the chilaquiles. Even the chips and salsa they bring to the table are solid. You can tell they use fried chilis to make the salsa and it's not watery at all. Just a great all around place. read more

Chicken soup came with tortillas, jalapeño cilantro onions lime and dried chili peppers for your soup and a side of rice....9.99.... Soup was excellent, especially on a freezing cold night. Steak soup smelled and tasted amazing....came w tortillas lime and jalapeño onion cilantro mix. Forgot the price special but was maybe 10.99.... Drink was 2.50 for a medium. Sauces were a tomatillo and roasted red pepper sauce....latter was excellent. Prices are amazing. They're known for their soups. Very nice people. No extra credit card fees. Straightforward.... Mazamitla is a town in Mexico found in the state of Jalisco. The decor in the restaurant gives a homely impression of their home. Caricatures on the chairs and art on walls and ceiling. The restaurant offers ten tables with super comfy, boxy chairs. Service is mainly via the counter. Staffing is tight so if you dine in, expect a wait. I visited for the first time on Good Friday. At about Noonish the dine in was popping off. Some celebrated with a case of Modelo and plenty of eats. Others enjoying lunch. I ordered a three taco platter to go. Wide choice of proteins available. So I ordered the al pastor, lengua and birria (goat). Per photos I had an idea of how the food looked and was a little fearful. This establishment cooks proteins too well done. Most taquerias might up charge with birria but they don't. That's because it's barely birria, as they do not offer any consomme for dipping. Rice and beans hit. We came here to get some to tacos to take home. Their menu looks pretty good to come back and dine in, but for now I can only review their food since we weren't invited in and paid at the entrance. I ordered my usual, al pastor, lengua and carne Asada tacos. I usually order my tacos like this so I can try all the flavors and see which one stands out of the three and which one I should avoid next time. The tacos weren't that pricey, but were also smaller than most. The lengua was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The carne Asada was on point. They use skirt steak for their Asada and very it was very delicious. Their al pastor however, was very disappointing and by far the worst al pastor I have ever tasted. It literally all burnt. No flavor, just a crunch with every bite. Don't know exactly what happened here, I never return food once given, but had I been dining in, I would of returned that in the quickness. I will be back to try some other things off their menu, just no their al pastor. read more

Avondale was rated by Timeout Magazine as one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2022 and on the list of places to try in Avondale, is Taqueria Mazamitla. I visited here recently with a few friends. The shop is small, yet spacious. There are plenty of tables, yet it never felt crowded. People are constantly walking in to pick up orders to-go and those who dine in inhale their meals. No one sticks around long; that's a good thing. The service was quick, we must have waited no more than 10 minutes for our food. If there was one downside in the night, it was that the salsa is served in a tiny cup and each time we asked for more it was simply forgotten. We never did receive a refill. This alone would not have been disappointing, if the salsa they serve was average. But it's not. The salsa is excellent - according to my partner, the best salsa she remembers having. In a table for four, you need to be quick to get your fair share. Fortunately, they sell their salsa to-go, for $8 you take home a 32oz cup of the good stuff. Most of us ordered tacos. These are very reasonably priced. Most tacos are $3 - $4, an excellent deal for the quality of tacos served. If you want a side of refried beans and yellow rice, opt for the taco platter. On the menu you'll see a two taco platter and a three taco platter for $12.50, but there doesn't seem to be a limit to the size of the platter you can get. I went for four and in hindsight should've ordered the five taco dish. I'm a sucker for the pastor (pork) and really enjoyed them here. I also tried the goat taco (birria) and was pleasantly surprised - if I had ordered a fifth, it would've probably been another one of these. The vegetable taco was fine, the sour cream and avocado was a nice touch, but nothing to write home about. I left convinced the tacos were the thing to get here. One of us ordered the cheese enchiladas, which I got to try, and they weren't great. In the end, we all left satisfied. We walked two blocks west to wash down the dinner with beers at Sleeping Village. read more

Also, their churros consistently old and stale, don't recommend in getting. The service is good for a taco place, nothing that stands out to be really bad or good. I ate there once, but consistently order take out, which the cashiers are quick and nice. Parking is hard to find, you quickly can use the parking spaces for the grocery store in the corner. I've been going to Mazamitla, on average, once per month for the past thirteen years since I moved to Avondale. It's the quickest, most consistent no-nonsense taqueria I've ever tried (and I've tried many). In the age of carelessness and terrible service, Mazamitla's consistency is rare. Arrogant Pilsen-dwellers poo poo on Northside Mexican food but frankly, Mazamitla is far superior to any taqueria I've tried in Pilsen. Delicious. read more

My family and I stepped in on a Sunday afternoon. First and foremost street parking was a bit tough but we found a spot without searching for too long. The place is pretty small with great hand painted tables and chairs. First and foremost, the salsa is amazing! It's so fresh and has a nice kick that makes it enjoyable. My husband and daughter both had the tacos which they said were very tasty. I had the chilaquiles verdes with Sunny side up eggs. Everything, was served quickly and we paid a fair price for it all. The servers were very diligent and quick and kind. This place is open late which is another treat. Sometimes we have late night cravings and don't want to make the drive to the Southside. This place will do quite nicely! Four stars only because parking may be hard to find during busier hours and it's very small so larger families or groups may have a tough time. read more
