Gosh! This place. I chase the flavors of their Chicken Avocado salad and nothing comes close. Their fajitas are some of the best, the men in my family chase that flavor where ever they go. It's been over 10 years we have been coming here and it's my favorite place in the desert to eat. Hands down. Just had it a couple of days ago -- it's been a couple years since I have been there -- I was euphoric. Some might say that is exaggerating or over rated. I disagree. Decent Mexican food at a decent price, especially if you catch the happy hour from 2-5pm. Great drink specials and I was impressed with the different mocktail options. I got a $7 Jamaica Cooler and it was pretty magical. They also have virgin Margaritas, Bloody Marys and Piña Coladas. Some of the food can be kinda bland depending on what you order. It is of a certain style, very Tex-Mexi and not a lot of memorable flavors or entrees that I fantasize about coming back for. We got fish tacos, chimichangas, Buffalo Wings, and taquitos. Nothing was bad, but nothing exceptionally good either. It does get the job done though, great service from our waitress and at a price that won't break your wallet. Note: Arrive early. Pueblo Viejo Grill is a family-owned and operated restaurant, where consistently very good food and service are the norm. Service was perfect. Our waiter has worked at Pueblo for years and he knows the menu and how to make his customers feel like old friends. My guest had the Chicken Avocado Salad, which features a tossed salad in vinaigrette dressing, topped with a grilled chicken breast, diced tomatoes, olives, tortilla chips, avocado, and cheese. She reported it being excellent. My choice was the Zihuatanejo Fajita Salad. The flour tortilla bowl is perfectly fried to a nice brown crisp and is generously filled with refried beans, lettuce, cheese and your choice of fajita (I went with the steak). The salad is then topped with guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo, and an Italian-style dressing on the side. The steak is amazing, very tender and flavorful. As you get about halfway through this big salad, you can start tearing apart the tortilla bowl and using it to scoop up some of the great goodness. While waiting for our salads, plentiful house-made chips and salsa were kept full at our table, along with our cold iced tea. read more

The food is consistently delicious, the service is friendly, and everyone leaves happy and satisfied. Our favorite is splitting the Trio Fajitas for Two - they arrive sizzling hot, packed with flavor, and are more than enough for both of us. The burritos and taco salads are excellent as well, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Be sure to try the Tortilla Soup or the Albóndigas Soup. Both are absolutely delicious and among the best we've had. The family-run atmosphere, warm hospitality, and consistently great food keep us coming back again and again. Always our best experience in the Desert! I think we have been coming 15 years, referred here by a San Diegan friend who was 100% right - EVERYTHING here is top-drawer. Norma always greets us and is genuine and so friendly it is a "welcome home". We have not owned here since 2012. Perfect refreshing icy margaritas! The chips and salsa are both individually spectacular; fresh and crisp and the cruda onions and tomatoes in the salsa ares so good, depth of flavor. Guac is chubky and rich and delicious. We love the steak fajitas; the super char of the perfectly marinated meat, and the fresh tomatoes, red and green peppers and sweet onions -DONE JUST RIGHT (not steamed and limp) are what we always have. I rememberd one winter having the chile verde, so I ordered it to see if it was as great as I recalled and IT WAS!!! We immediately got a tub to take to our condo. Jim has a birthday tomorrow so though we were full; he had a dessert (email gift) and it was bread pudding. Jim's very favorite dessert and they serve it warm, hot even, buttery, crusty and rich with a delicious scoop of vanilla ice cream topper. Oh so so so good!. Our server was "CHILL" - his name! and he was excellent and attentive. We so love our little hideaway but the world needs to know this experience. We have tiptoed over the asphalt at 118DEGREES to get inside in August....they are always a perfectly cool and refreshing and delicious oasis in the desert. This place was so good over stagecoach weekend. We went twice in four days. Staff is so welcoming and lovely and attentive. The food was cooked to perfection and so delicious. Whether they put it on steak nachos or in a quesadilla it is so delicious seasoned perfectly and tender! On Saturday, the 18th of 2025, we politely inquired with our tour guide, Ron, about his recommendations for a local Mexican restaurant. Fifteen minutes later, we arrived at Pueblo Viejo Grill. Upon arrival, we observed that the parking lot was nearly full. We expressed our excitement and decided to dine there. OMG! That's really all you need to know! I was looking for some good tamales. I went on yelp and everybody says this place has tamales and grapefruit in general. Dark like a good desert Mexican restaurant should be. The place is a little narrow so can be tough to walk thru to the back when it's full. They have booths and tables. Margaritas are large in giant goblets and strong (I got the ultimate, in the future I might get a mezcal version), I loved the trio fajitas, incredibly hot and sizzling, with fresh sides. The atmosphere is Mexican quaint. It's not a large restaurant but big enough for both booth and table sitting (tables can connected for a larger group). The basics of chips and salsa are good. Salsa isn't spicy and has a good flavor (garlic and onion). Started with the chili gueros, they were excellent! I've had them at many of the local restraunts and these were one of the best. We ordered the 3 item combo of two enchiladas (one pollo and one carnie) with a cheese chile relleno. All three were tasty. I really liked their enchiladas brown sauce. The combo sides or rice and beans were so so, the rice was a bit hard. Also since it was Wednesday they had $4 street tacos, had two of the carnitas tacos, the carnitas and the corn tortillas were dry, to long on the pot. Overall good service and tasty food, make sure to get the chile gueros! read more
